Arizona Diamondbacks (34-48) at San Diego Padres (34-46), 10:10 p.m.
Probable Starting Pitchers: Arizona - Josh Collmenter (6-4, 3.87) San Diego - Eric Stults (2-10, 5.49)
(SportsNetwork.com) - San Diego left-hander Eric Stults tries to avoid an 11th loss on Saturday when the Padres resume their three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks at Petco Park.
An 11-game winner last season, Stults lost his seventh straight decision on Sunday against the Los Angeles Dodgers, despite a decent effort that saw him surrender a pair of runs over six hits in seven innings. Still, he walked three batters and fell to 2-10 on the year to go along with a 5.49 ERA.
"They've got a lot of, I guess you could say, superstars in this game," said Stults, who hasn't won since May 10. "I knew from the start that I'd have to be on my game."
Arizona, meanwhile, counters with righty Josh Collmenter, who is 6-4 with a 3.87 ERA. Collmenter pitched five innings of one-run ball to beat the San Francisco Giants last Friday,
"I don't think I've ever had a clean, crisp outing against these guys," Collmenter said. "They're a good club, a lot of experienced hitters. I felt as good as I have in the last handful of starts, was able to make some really good pitches, especially when I needed to, but they battled."
Collmenter, who is 2-3 lifetime versus the Padres, then came out of the bullpen four days later to pitch the 14th inning and get the win over Cleveland.
San Diego's offensive struggles continued in Friday's opener, as David Peralta's two-run single in the fourth inning proved to be enough as Arizona eked out a 2-1 win.
Brandon McCarthy (2-10) snapped a five-decision losing streak with seven solid innings of one-run ball. He struck out seven and only gave up six hits.
"His breaking ball was a little bit better today than I can remember," Padres manager Bud Black said of McCarthy.
The Padres, who were no-hit by San Francisco's Tim Lincecum their last time out, did not record any extra-base hits or work any walks.
The only run they mustered came on Tyson Ross' sacrifice fly in the fifth, the first run the club has managed with Ross on the mound in his past five starts.
Ross (6-8) wound up going seven innings, allowing only five hits and two runs.
Arizona has won five of its seven matchups with the Padres this season.
