Detroit Tigers (33-26) at Chicago White Sox (31-33), 8:10 p.m.
Probable Starting Pitchers: Detroit - Rick Porcello (8-3, 3.69) Chicago - Hector Noesi (1-4, 5.29)
(SportsNetwork.com) - The Chicago White Sox welcome the Detroit Tigers to U.S. Cellular Field on Monday night to kick off a four-game series between American League Central rivals.
Detroit has lost five of its last seven and may be forced to play without two- time reigning league MVP Miguel Cabrera in the lineup for the first time all season.
Cabrera is dealing with left hamstring tightness and is considered day to day. The injury occurred while Cabrera was legging out a single in the sixth inning of Sunday's 5-3 loss to Boston, and he was promptly lifted for a pinch-runner.
"Hopefully I'll feel better and be in there," Cabrera said. "I don't know. I've gotta see (on Monday) how it feels and see what we want to do."
On the season, Cabrera is hitting .326 with 11 homers and 51 RBI.
Meanwhile, the White Sox are looking to get back into the win column after getting swept by the Angels in Anaheim over the weekend. The offense managed only three hits in 7 1/3 innings off Angels starter C.J. Wilson before scoring twice in the eighth against the L.A. bullpen.
"Well, I mean, it's a bummer now, but (Monday) is another day and you are playing another team so you can get right back at it," manager Robin Ventura said.
Monday's opener begins a nine-game homestand for the White Sox, who are 4 1/2 games behind the AL Central-leading Tigers.
"We've got a big four coming up against Detroit and we're excited to put our best out there and try to make up some ground in the division," center fielder Adam Eaton said.
Chicago will send Hector Noesi to the mound on Monday. The right-hander won for the first time in 40 games (and 19 starts) against the Dodgers on Tuesday, ending a 0-14 streak dating back to May of 2012. The right-hander gave up just one run on five hits over six innings.
Noesi has posted a 2.33 ERA over his last three starts.
For Detroit, Rick Porcello tries to rebound from a tough loss against Toronto his last time out. The right-hander pitched seven strong innings but gave up a key two-run double to Adam Lind as he suffered his second loss in three starts after winning six straight decisions.
Porcello is 9-1 with a 2.36 ERA in his last 13 outings against Chicago, with Detroit winning 12 times.
Detroit has won four of six head-to-head meetings with Chicago this season.
Cabrera has gone 10-for-26 with six RBI in the season series.
