Final Score: Toronto 4, Milwaukee 1
Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Drew Hutchison allowed only one run over seven innings to help lead the Toronto Blue Jays over the Milwaukee Brewers, 4-1, in the opener of a two-game series on Tuesday afternoon.
Jose Bautista, starting for the first time since June 22 due to a strained left hamstring, and Colby Rasmus each homered for the Blue Jays, who ended a three-game losing streak.
Hutchison (6-6) held the Brewers to three hits, struck out a season-best 10 and walked two, picking up his first win since June 13. Aaron Loup, Dustin McGowan and Casey Janssen combined to work the final two innings, with Janssen recording the final three outs for his 13th save of the season.
Ryan Braun drove in the lone run for the Brewers, who have lost two in a row after winning four straight.
Marco Estrada (7-5) started for Milwaukee and suffered the loss, allowing two runs on six hits over six-plus innings of work. He struck out two and walked one, losing for the first time since June 15.
Bautista's first-inning homer and Rasmus' blast in the fifth gave Toronto a 2-0 lead.
"Things just started going south for me," Estrada said. "I just wasn't really locating. I really didn't know what I was doing, how I was missing and the way I was missing. I was just out there throwing the ball around."
Milwaukee got a run back in the sixth on Braun's two-out RBI double, but wasted a golden opportunity to get more runs in the seventh. With the bases loaded and two outs, Jean Segura flied out to right field to end the inning.
"He's got that knack working out of some jams," Blue Jays manager John Gibbons said. "I thought the fastball was really good today."
Toronto add a pair of insurance runs in the eighth when Melky Cabrera tripled home a run and then scored on an Edwin Encarnacion double.
This was the start of a five-game road trip for the Brewers, who will visit Cincinnati for a three-game set after this series ... Toronto improved to 4-4 on its current nine-game homestand ... Bautista started as the designated hitter and has 16 HRs this season ... Rasmus' homer was his 12th of the year.
