Final Score: Chicago White Sox 9, Arizona 3
Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Alexei Ramirez's grand slam highlighted a seven-run fourth inning and the Chicago White Sox coasted from there in a 9-3 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday night that opened a three-game series.
Diamondbacks starter Brandon McCarthy (1-6) was perfect through three innings before giving up nine hits in 10 batters to start the fourth.
"It happened very quick," D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said.
Ramirez also tripled for the White Sox, who were coming off a 12-5 loss to the Cubs on Thursday that snapped a season-high four-game winning streak.
Andre Rienzo (3-0) earned the win in 5 2/3 innings after giving up three runs on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
White Sox rookie first baseman Jose Abreu batted as the designated hitter because of a sore ankle and had three hits, including his MLB-leading 13th home run.
Gerardo Parra hit a two-run homer for the Diamondbacks, who fell to 4-3 on a nine-game road trip.
McCarthy, coming off his first win of the season on Saturday in San Diego, gave up seven runs on nine hits -- all in the fourth.
"He was lights out there for a while, and then I think the guys just made some adjustments," White Sox bench coach Mark Parent said of McCarthy.
Cody Ross' one-out single in the third inning was the game's first hit. Two batters later, Parra knocked a 2-2 fastball into the right-field seats for his third homer of the season, giving Arizona a 2-0 lead.
Alejandro De Aza's leadoff double to the right-center field gap was Chicago's first hit and opened the floodgates. He came home on Gordon Beckham's single to center field and Abreu added an RBI single before Ramirez lined his grand slam into the left-field seats.
The Diamondbacks stuck with McCarthy through three more hits, all singles. He was relieved by Trevor Cahill after De Aza's RBI single made it 7-2. Cahill got Beckham on a double play grounder to end the inning.
A.J. Pollock's RBI single in the fifth cut Arizona's deficit to four runs.
Abreu homered leading off the seventh inning and Tyler Flowers homered to start the eighth for Chicago.
The White Sox took two of three games against the Diamondbacks in their last meeting in 2011 ... McCarthy struck out five ... The White Sox have won each of Rienzo's four starts this season.
