Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Nolan Reimold hit a run-scoring double in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the Toronto Blue Jays to a 3-2 win over the Detroit Tigers at Rogers Centre.
The Blue Jays sent the middle test of this three-game set to extras when Dioner Navarro singled home Jose Reyes in the ninth.
Max Scherzer outdueled Toronto rookie Marcus Stroman through the first eight innings before Detroit closer Joe Nathan coughed up a 2-1 lead.
Reyes opened the ninth with a single and quickly stole second before advancing to third on a flyout to right field. After intentionally walking Jose Bautista, Nathan gave up the Navarro hit to right.
The struggling reliever, who blew his sixth save of the season, departed after throwing a wild pitch and walking Colby Rasmus to load the bases
Joakim Soria pitched out of the jam, inducing a Juan Francisco popup and a ground ball from Munenori Kawasaki, but left with a left side strain prior to the 10th.
Danny Valencia reached on an infield single against Joba Chamberlain (1-5) and hustled home on Reimold's double to the gap in left-center field.
"I was just happy I got the chance to come through," said Reimold. "The whole team played good ... a good team win."
Toronto won for just the second time in its last eight games. Detroit has dropped four of six.
Scherzer, who threw 106 pitches, was in line to join the major league leaders in wins with No. 14 after holding Toronto to a run on four hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks.
"I threw the ball pretty well," said Scherzer. "I made a little adjustment after the last start and I feel like it helped. I felt like I had good life on my fastball ... I really felt like I was in command."
Stroman went nine innings, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks. Aaron Loup (4-3) tossed the 10th and stranded the go-ahead run at third.
A two-run double by Victor Martinez in the sixth ended the scoreless duel between Scherzer and Stroman.
Ian Kinsler hit a two-out single and Miguel Cabrera walked before Martinez drove a Stroman pitch the opposite way into the left-field corner.
The Blue Jays got on the board in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out rally of their own. Reyes singled to keep the frame alive and scored on Melky Cabrera's double to left center.
Reyes extended his hitting streak against the Tigers to 20 games ... Bautista has reached base in 18 straight games ... Detroit had won four straight in Toronto.
