Houston, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - The Houston Astros agreed to terms with pitcher Tony Sipp on Friday.
Sipp had been pitching for Triple-A El Paso in the San Diego Padres organization before asking for his release Thursday. In his 11 games with El Paso this season, Sipp went 1-1 with a 4.30 earned run average.
In 2013, Sipp went 3-2 with a 4.78 ERA in 56 relief appearances for Arizona.
The left-hander is 14-9 with a 3.84 ERA in 304 career games with Cleveland and Arizona.
To make room for Sipp on the active roster, the Astros optioned pitcher Paul Clemens to Triple-A Oklahoma City. To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, pitcher Jesse Crain was transferred from the 15-day disabled list to the 60- day disabled list.
