(SportsNetwork.com) - Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper will have surgery on his injured left thumb and will likely be sidelined until at least July, according to multiple reports.
Harper was injured sliding head-first into third base for a triple in Friday's game against San Diego. The Nationals placed the former NL Rookie of the Year on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with what they said was a sprained thumb.
Instead, Harper has a torn ulnar collateral ligament in the thumb that requires surgery, according to multiple reports.
Harper, 21, is batting .289 in 22 games this season with one home run, nine RBI and a .352 on-base percentage.
