San Diego, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - The San Diego Padres have agreed to one- year contracts with five players, including infielders Everth Cabrera and Chase Headley, thus avoiding salary arbitration.
The Padres also worked out deals with pitchers Ian Kennedy and Tyson Ross, and infielder/outfielder Kyle Blanks for the 2014 season.
Cabrera batted .283 with four home runs, 31 RBI and 37 stolen bases, but appeared in just 95 games after receiving a 50-game ban for the use of performance-enhancing drugs stemming from his connection to the Biogenesis of America scandal.
Over five seasons, all with San Diego, Cabrera has swiped 118 bases and knocked in 108 runs while stroking nine homers and batting .252 over 391 games.
Headley hit .250 with 13 homers and 50 RBI last season after leading the NL with 115 RBI in 2012.
Selected by San Diego in the second round back in 2005, Headley has hit .269 with 80 homers and 369 RBI over seven seasons since breaking into the majors with the Padres in 2007.
Kennedy was acquired by the Padres from Arizona on July 31 and went 4-2 with a 4.24 ERA over 10 starts with San Diego.
A seven-year veteran, Kennedy owns a career 53-40 record with a 4.00 ERA in 143 games, including 141 starts, with the Yankees, Diamondbacks and Padres.
In his first season with San Diego last year, Ross went 3-8 with a 3.17 ERA in 35 games, including 16 starts.
Blanks belted eight homers and knocked in 35 runs while batting .243 over 88 games with San Diego last season, his fifth with the club.
