Detroit Lions Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Joique Bell, RB11/19/2014 4:36:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell (ankle) did not practice Wednesday.
Insight: It is unclear whether Bell is in danger of missing Week 12. Stay tuned.
Reggie Bush, RB11/19/2014 3:39:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush (ankle) was back at practice on Wednesday.
Insight: He looks ready to go for Week 12, and will be an RB3/FLEX option.
Reggie Bush, RB11/17/2014 5:06:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush (ankle) expects to play in Week 12.
Insight: This comes out of the mouth of Bush himself, so it should be taken with a grain of salt. If Bush does return, Theo Riddick would return to the third back on the depth chart.
Golden Tate, WRCold11/17/2014 10:07:00 AM
Description: Lions receiver Golden Tate saw just two targets and managed just 41 yards against Arizona
Insight: Tate should bounce back next weekend as Calvin Johnson will likely have Darrelle Revis shadowing him and Stafford should look for Tate.
Matthew Stafford, QBCold11/17/2014 10:04:00 AM
Description: Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was completely dominated by the Cardinals defense and posted his worst numbers of the season.
Insight: Stafford went 18-of-30 for just 180 yards and an interception. A quarterback with receivers like Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate should be able to produce better than that.
Calvin Johnson, WRCold11/17/2014 10:04:00 AM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson was a non-factor in Week 11, catching just five of 12 targets for 59 yards and no scores.
Insight: The Cardinals were in the bottom five in passing yards allowed, but did a great job on Megatron and the Lions.
Theo Riddick, RBCold11/17/2014 10:02:00 AM
Description: Fantasy owners who were hoping Lions running back Theo Riddick could be added to their lineup with Reggie Bush inactive were disappointed with his output.
Insight: Riddick rushed just two times for two yards and caught three of six targets for 24 yards.
Joique Bell, RB11/17/2014 10:00:00 AM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell led the team in rushing during Week 11 with 85 yards on 14 carries.
Insight: Bell also shared in the pass receiving duties (three receptions for 30 yards) with Theo Riddick, but the Cardinals defense kept the Lions out of the end zone.
Brandon Pettigrew, TE11/16/2014 3:11:00 PM
Description: Detroit tight end Brandon Pettigrew (foot) is inactive for Week 11.
Insight: Pettigrew is one of many Lions tight ends on the roster so rookie Eric Ebron and veteran Joseph Fauria will get additional snaps.
Reggie Bush, RB11/16/2014 3:05:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush (ankle injury) is inactive for Sunday's game in Arizona.
Insight: Joique Bell and Theo Riddick figure to get the work against a tough Cardinals run defense. Bush owners likely won't miss much in what should be a defensive struggle.
Calvin Johnson, WR11/14/2014 5:02:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson (ankle) is probable for Week 11.
Insight: He is ready to roll, and will be a WR1 against Arizona.
Reggie Bush, RB11/14/2014 1:26:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush did not practice again on Friday due to his ankle injury and fantasy owners should not expect him to be in uniform Sunday.
Insight: Joique Bell and Theo Riddick figure to get the work against a tough Cardinals run defense. Bush owners likely won't miss much in what should be a defensive struggle.
Reggie Bush, RB11/13/2014 3:32:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush did not practice again on Thursday due to his ankle injury.
Insight: Bush aggravated his ankle during Sunday's victory over the Dolphins. He hasn't played well in the shared situation with Joique Bell and Theo Riddick and against a tough Cardinals run defense shouldn't be counted on.
Reggie Bush, RB11/12/2014 3:05:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush did not practice on Wednesday due to his ankle injury.
Insight: Bush aggravated his ankle during Sunday's victory over the Dolphins. He played just 19 snaps. Fantasy owners should not count on Bush being ready for Week 11 and can get Theo Riddick and Joique Bell ready.
Golden Tate, WRHot11/9/2014 5:59:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Golden Tate had a nother huge game Sunday versus Miami.
Insight: He had 11 receptions for 109 yards, on 13 targets, and is clearly still a threat even with Calvin Johnson playing.
Calvin Johnson, WR11/9/2014 5:58:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson returned in a big way Sunday against Miami.
Insight: He had seven catches for 113 yards and a touchdown, on 15 targets. Johnson looks 100 percent healthy.
Reggie Bush, RB11/9/2014 5:57:00 PM
Description: Detroit running back Reggie Bush played but did not do much on Sunday.
Insight: He had four carries for 20 yards and one catch for five yards. Bush will look to bounce back during Week 11.
Joique Bell, RB11/9/2014 5:56:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell led the team in rushing during Week 10.
Insight: It was nothing pretty, as Bell had 10 carries for 44 yards. With Reggie Bush and Theo Riddick seeing time as well, there is no top option in Detroit's backfield.
Matthew Stafford, QB11/9/2014 5:54:00 PM
Description: Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford passed for 280 yards in Sunday's victory against the Dolphins.
Insight: He had two touchdowns and one interception, and with Calvin Johnson now healthy, Stafford could see an increase in production.
Larry Warford, G11/9/2014 1:52:00 PM
Description: Lions OL Larry Warford left Sunday's game against Miami with a left knee injury.
Insight: His return is questionable.
Calvin Johnson, WR11/9/2014 11:56:00 AM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson (ankle) is active for Week 10 against the Dolphins.
Insight: Owners are happy to get Megatron back. Start him with confidence.
Reggie Bush, RB11/9/2014 11:55:00 AM
Description: Detroit running back Reggie Bush (ankle) is officially active Sunday against Miami.
Insight: He was probable all week and is good to go, but owners need to be aware that Joique Bell and Theo Riddick will be mixed in throughout the day.
Eric Ebron, TE11/6/2014 2:49:00 PM
Description: Detroit rookie tight end Eric Ebron (hamstring) returned to practice Thursday.
Insight: Ebron along with fellow tight ends Joseph Fauria and Brandon Pettigrew are all back back practice. He may still not be fantasy worthy.
Brandon Pettigrew, TE11/6/2014 2:46:00 PM
Description: Detroit tight end Brandon Pettigrew (foot) returned to practice Thursday.
Insight: Pettigrew is one of many Lions tight ends getting healthy. We don't like him as a fantasy option.
Calvin Johnson, WR11/5/2014 12:15:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson (ankle) said he will be ready to go for Week 10.
Insight: Johnson said he is "almost 100 percent" healthy, which is great news for owners. He gets Miami this week, and will be a WR1 the rest of the season.
Calvin Johnson, WR11/3/2014 5:37:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson (ankle) participated in Monday's practice.
Insight: This is a great sign for fantasy owners, as Johnson is looking to get over his ankle injury. Expect him to be ready to roll Sunday versus Miami.
Reggie Bush, RB11/3/2014 5:35:00 PM
Description: Detroit running back Reggie Bush (ankle) practiced on Monday.
Insight: Consider him an RB2/flex play heading into Sunday's contest against the Dolphins.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/29/2014 10:57:00 AM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson expects to return to action after the Lions' Week 9 bye.
Insight: Johnson has been out since Week 5 and will be a huge addition to any team thats has been able to survivor his absence. He will be good to go for the plyaoffs.
Joique Bell, RB10/28/2014 11:59:00 AM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell's fantasy value appears will take a hit with the addition of Theo Riddick to the mix.
Insight: With Reggie Bush, Bell and Riddick all looking for their share of the workload, we don't think any are fantasy worthy. At least not until we see how it plays out.
Reggie Bush, RB10/28/2014 11:56:00 AM
Description: Detroit running back Reggie Bush's fantasy value, even when he gets healthy, could be in question moving forward as it appears the Lions will use three backs - Bush, Joique Bell and Theo Riddick.
Insight: We are as confused as anyone as to how it will play out, but at the moment it's hard to recommend any of the trio as fantasy worthy.
Theo Riddick, RB10/28/2014 11:53:00 AM
Description: Lions running back Theo Riddick could be added to the Reggie Bush/Joique Bell tandem going forward after a solid game against Atlanta, according to Lions beat writer Tim Twentyman.
Insight: Riddick was Matthews Stafford's primary backfield receiver catching eight balls for 74 yards and a touchdown. A three-man rotation would pretty much rule out any of the trio being fantasy worthy.
Justin Durant, LB10/27/2014 11:31:00 PM
Description: Cowboys linebacker Justin Durant left Monday night's game against the Redskins.
Insight: Durant suffered an arm injury in the fourth quarter. He will not return.
Nick Fairley, DT10/27/2014 6:42:00 PM
Description: Detroit defensive tackle Nick Fairley will be sidelined for 4-to-5 weeks after spraining his MCL and PCL, according to ESPN Chicago's Michael C. Wright.
Insight: This should actually be considered good news, as many thought he'd be out for the season. Fairley should be back for the Lions' stretch run.
Nick Fairley, DT10/27/2014 11:10:00 AM
Description: Detroit defensive tackle Nick Fairley, who injured a right knee in Sunday's game, will have an MRI Monday.
Insight: All early comments have called this one bad, so we aren't too hopeful at this point.
Golden Tate, WRHot10/26/2014 1:00:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Golden Tate was a must-start in Week 8 with Calvin Johnson sidelined.
Insight: Tate was Matthew Stafford's No. 1 target once again. Tate caught seven of 15 targets for 151 yards and a touchdown.
Theo Riddick, RBHot10/26/2014 12:58:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Theo Riddick (hamstring) returned to play well in Week 8.
Insight: After missing Week 7 due to a hamstring injury, Riddick was Matthews Stafford's primary backfield receiver catching eight balls for 74 yards and a touchdown.
Joique Bell, RB10/26/2014 12:57:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell was expected to have a big day against Atlanta with Reggie Bush inactive.
Insight: It didn't happen. Bell rushed for just 39 yards and Theo Riddick did the bulk of the receiving out of the backfield. Ugh!
Matthew Stafford, QBHot10/26/2014 12:55:00 PM
Description: Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford struggled in the first half against Atlanta without a lot of his top weapons, but found a way to make it work.
Insight: The good ones do. Stafford finished the game with 325 yards passing and two scores after being shut out in the first half. The second-half offense featured Golden Tate and Theo Riddick.
Nick Fairley, DT10/26/2014 10:35:00 AM
Description: Detroit defensive tackle Nick Fairley injured a right knee and is not expected to return.
Insight: With all the offensive firepower sitting out the game for the Lions, their defense has to carry them and this injury won't help.
Joseph Fauria, TE10/26/2014 8:48:00 AM
Description: Lions tight end Joseph Fauria is inactive for Week 8.
Insight: Fauria joins fellow tight ends Eric Ebron and Brandon Pettigrew on the sidelines. He hasn't been fantasy worthy for a few seasons, but could have been a primary target in Week 8 due to all the injuries to the Lions skill position players.
Eric Ebron, TE10/26/2014 8:46:00 AM
Description: Detroit rookie tight end Eric Ebron (hamstring) is inactive for Week 8 versus Atlanta.
Insight: Seems like Matthew Stafford will be missing most of his weapons. Ebron along with fellow tight ends Joseph Fauria and Brandon Pettigrew will join Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush on the sidelines.
Brandon Pettigrew, TE10/26/2014 8:46:00 AM
Description: Detroit tight end Brandon Pettigrew (foot) is inactive for Week 8.
Insight: Pettigrew could have had the position all to himself, but will join Joseph Fauria and Eric Ebron on the bench.
Joique Bell, RB10/26/2014 8:44:00 AM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell could end up being an RB1 in Week 8, due to the massive injuries to the Lions offense.
Insight: Reggie Bush, Calvin Johnson and three tight ends are all inactive for this one. That makes Bell along with Golden Tate great fantasy options against the Falcons.
Reggie Bush, RBCold10/26/2014 8:43:00 AM
Description: Detroit running back Reggie Bush said he would play, but he was wrong. Bush is inactive for Week 8.
Insight: Joique Bell should be in for a heavy workload both in the running game and passing game where the Lions are also short-handed.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/26/2014 8:40:00 AM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson is not going to play in Week 8 in London against Atlanta - he is inactive.
Insight: The obviously beneficiary is Golden Tate. The Lions are also missing three tight ends, which might indicate the short passing game will go to Joique Bell.
Golden Tate, WR10/24/2014 10:33:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Golden Tate is a must-start in Week 8.
Insight: It is unlikely Calvin Johnson suits up for the game in London on Sunday morning. That leaves Tate as Matthew Stafford's No. 1 target once again. Tate has 10 catches for 154 yards and a touchdown last week versus the Saints.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/24/2014 10:28:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson is not likely going to play in Week 8 in London according to ESPN's Ed Werner.
Insight: Werder reports Lions coach Jim Caldwell is thinking big picture and with the Lions bye a week away, he will likely sit Megatron and Reggie Bush. We expect the Lions to continue to rely heavily on Joique Bell and Golden Tate. Those guys are must-starts.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/24/2014 2:12:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson (ankle) is expected to be a game-time decision.
Insight: Fortunately for fantasy owners, game-time is 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning so if he doesn't play you have plenty of time to make your alternate plans. Golden Tate will continue to be a borderline WR1 for Sunday's tilt against the Falcons if Megatron sits.
Eric Ebron, TE10/24/2014 2:09:00 PM
Description: Detroit rookie tight end Eric Ebron (hamstring) isn't expected to play, though coach Jim Caldwell said there was a slim chance he or Joseph Fauria could play against the Falcons.
Insight: Seems like Matthew Stafford will be missing another weapon Sunday. Reggie Bush, Calvin Johnson and the tight ends are all questionable or worse.
Reggie Bush, RBCold10/24/2014 2:01:00 PM
Description: Detroit running back Reggie Bush is not practicing again Friday, but claims he'll be ready for Sunday against Atlanta, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.
Insight: Bush has admitted that the ankle still isn't healed and is bothering him and after his invisible performance in Week 7 fantasy owners shouldn't expect anything against Atlanta in Week 8.
Joique Bell, RB10/23/2014 11:44:00 AM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell may have the bulk of the backfield work to himself in Week 8 as reggie Bush continues to struggle with an ankle injury.
Insight: Bush has admitted that the ankle is bothering him. His absence would make Bell a solid fantasy option.
Reggie Bush, RBCold10/23/2014 11:42:00 AM
Description: Detroit running back Reggie Bush is not practicing Thursday, according to Lions beat writer Tim Twentyman.
Insight: Bush has admitted that the ankle still isn't healed and is bothering him and after his invisible performance in Week 7 fantasy owners shouldn't expect anything against Atlanta in Week 8. His absence would make Joique Bell a solid fantasy option.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/22/2014 1:25:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson (ankle) did not practice on Wednesday. UPDATE: Johnson was able to get in a limited practice session on Wednesday, but is still unlikely to play, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Insight: Johnson traveled with the team to London, but there is a slim chance that he plays. Detroit has their bye during Week 9, and owners should hope that he returns for Week 10. In the meantime Golden Tate will continue to be a borderline WR1 for Sunday's tilt against the Falcons.
Reggie Bush, RBCold10/21/2014 11:20:00 AM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush laid another fantasy egg in Week 7, but part of it was he said his ankle was acting up, according to a MLive report.
Insight: Bush is becoming a pretty big bust in 2014 and with the admission that the ankle still isn't healed shouldn't be started. At this point, Joique Bell is ahead of Bush on fantasy depth charts.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/21/2014 11:12:00 AM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson is in London with the team, but it's still no gaurantee that he'll play in Week 8.
Insight: With the Lions on bye in Week 9, it's more likely that he'll sit again this weekend to be 100 percent down the road.
Reggie Bush, RB10/19/2014 7:19:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush laid another fantasy egg in Week 7.
Insight: Bush is becoming a pretty big bust in 2014. He carried the ball just four times for 10 yards and caught five passes for 22 yards. At this point, Joique Bell is ahead of Bush on fantasy depth charts.
Golden Tate, WR10/19/2014 7:15:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Golden Tate had another huge game with Calvin Johnson sidelined in Week 7.
Insight: Tate finished with 10 catches for 154 yards and a touchdown, but his big 73-yard touchdown grab did not come until there was four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Over half his fantasy points came on one play.
Joique Bell, RB10/19/2014 7:11:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell had 48 yards on 18 carries and a touchdown against the Saints.
Insight: Although that is an average of below 3.0 yards per carry, Bell looked better than Reggie Bush. Bell is ahead of Bush on fantasy depth charts.
Matthew Stafford, QB10/19/2014 7:07:00 PM
Description: Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford really struggled, throwing two interceptions on Sunday against the Saints.
Insight: Stafford salvaged the game with two late touchdown throws. He was 27-for-40 with two touchdowns. Stafford was one yard short of the 300-yard bonus as he finished with 299.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/17/2014 11:08:00 AM
Description: Coach Jim Caldwell Lions on receiver Calvin Johnson chances to play in Week 7 - "miracles can happen."
Insight: The translation for fantasy owners is get your backups in the lineup Megatron isn't playing. Yes, miracles can happen and you might hit the lottery tonight, but the odds are extemely tilted against you.
Matthew Stafford, QB10/16/2014 4:24:00 PM
Description: Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford could be down a trio of receiving weapons for Saturday's game with New Orleans.
Insight: Likely missing will be Calvin Johnson, Joseph Fauria and Eric Ebron. He could get Reggie Bush back which would certainly help, but beware of overvaluing Stafford in Week 7.
Eric Ebron, TECold10/16/2014 4:21:00 PM
Description: Detroit rookie tight end Eric Ebron has a hamstring injury from practice Wednesday and did not practice Thursday.
Insight: Seems like Matthew Stafford will be missing another weapon Sunday. He's already likely to be without WR Calvin Johnson and TE Joseph Fauria.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/16/2014 4:18:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson missed Thursday's practice and with his announcement of lingering pain yesterday we don't see him playing Sunday.
Insight: It's possible that with the team still winning football games (4-2 and leading the division), they won't rush him back and could even wait until after their Week 9 bye.
Theo Riddick, RB10/16/2014 4:15:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Theo Riddick (hamstring) has yet to return to practice and is not going to play this weekend.
Insight: With Reggie Bush likely to join Joique Bell in the backfield, the Lions won't miss Riddick.
Reggie Bush, RB10/16/2014 4:11:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush has now practiced two straight days (limited) and seems to be on track to play Sunday.
Insight: If Bush does play we will be back to a shared situation to the dismay of Joique Bell owners. Bush has not been very good this season, with 302 yards and one touchdown split over five games.
Reggie Bush, RB10/15/2014 3:30:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush practiced on Wednesday.
Insight: Bush missed Week 6 mostly as a "precaution" according to Bleacher Report. He is fully expected to play against the Saints much to the dismay of Joique Bell owners. Bush has not been good this season, so it is tough to plug him anywhere but the FLEX position or at RB2 in 12-team leagues or larger.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/15/2014 1:49:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson told Bleacher Report he will be back when he feels he can do everything he has to to play at a high level.
Insight: Bleacher Report also reported Johnson is not there yet. He is going to try and play this week, but coach Jim Caldwell has put out the idea of shutting down Johnson through the Lions' Week 9 bye. In the long-run, that is Detroit's best option.
Kevin Ogletree, WR10/14/2014 8:42:00 PM
Description: Wide receiver Kevin Ogletree signed with the New York Giants.
Insight: New York needs wide receiver help after Victor Cruz tore his patellar tendon on Sunday night. Ogletree caught 13 passes in 12 games last season with Detroit. He doesn't have any fantasy value at the moment.
Golden Tate, WR10/13/2014 5:08:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Golden Tate caught seven passes in Sunday's win over the Vikings.
Insight: Owners were hoping for more than the 44 yards he produced, with Calvin Johnson sidelined. Tate did manage 12 targets, and with the potential for Johnson to miss even more time, Tate is a fine WR2 option.
Joique Bell, RB10/12/2014 6:13:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell scored a touchdown in Week 6 versus Minnesota.
Insight: He had 18 carries for 74 yards, making the touchdown huge for fantasy owners. If Reggie Bush is unable to play next week, Bell will maintain his RB2 status.
Matthew Stafford, QB10/12/2014 6:10:00 PM
Description: Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford was nothing special Sunday against the Vikings.
Insight: He led his team to a win, but that doesn't help fantasy owners. Stafford threw for 185 yards and a score. Owners still need to consider him a QB1 for now.
Theo Riddick, RB10/12/2014 3:33:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Theo Riddick suffered a hamstring injury and will not return to the game.
Insight: He had five receptions for 75 yards and a touchdown before departing. Joique Bell will see an even larger workload.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/12/2014 12:17:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson (ankle) is officially inactive against Minnesota.
Insight: This was expected, as owners will hope for a quick recovery. Golden Tate gets a bump in value for the day.
Joique Bell, RB10/12/2014 12:13:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell is active and starting against the Vikings.
Insight: Bell missed last week, but with Reggie Bush inactive, Bell should be in line for a ton of touches. Get him into your lineups, as he is a RB2 on the day.
Reggie Bush, RB10/12/2014 12:11:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush (ankle) is anactive versus Minnesota.
Insight: This comes as no surprise, as Bush failed to practice all week. Joique Bell gets the start, and will have a big workload.
Joique Bell, RB10/11/2014 10:21:00 AM
Description: ESPN reporter Michael Rothstein predicts Lions running back Joique Bell to receive between 15-to-18 carries against the Vikings this Sunday.
Insight: Reggie Bush is not expected to play, so Bell will be the go-to back for the Lions. Minnesota has allowed the eighth most fantasy points to opponents running backs, so Bell could be in for his best fantasy day of the year.
Joique Bell, RB10/9/2014 5:56:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell (concussion) is practicing in full ahead of Week 6.
Insight: With Reggie Bush (ankle) looking unlikely to play, Bell should be in for a major workload. He will be a RB2 with upside this week against Minnesota.
Reggie Bush, RB10/9/2014 5:48:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush did not practice on Thursday due to an ankle injury according to the Detroit Free Press.
Insight: Bush can still play Sunday if he practices on Friday, but owners should have a backup plan in case he doesn't suit up. Joique Bell and Theo Riddick are both practicing, so the Lions have options at running back this week.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/9/2014 3:54:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson said he is dealing with a high-ankle sprain and missed another practice.
Insight: He added that he "hopes" to play in Week 6's contest against the Minnesota Vikings. We have heard this before. Even if he plays will he be a decoy again. Better to sit an not tempt fantasy owners to start him.
Reggie Bush, RB10/8/2014 3:24:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush was held out of practice on Wednesday.
Insight: He is dealing with an ankle injury, and his status is up in the air. Bush downplayed the injury, but owners will need to see some progress, as the week progresses. Joique Bell returned to practice for Detroit, but is still in the concussion protocol.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/8/2014 12:26:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson said he is dealing with a high-ankle sprain.
Insight: He added that he hopes to play in Week 6's contest against the Minnesota Vikings. However, it may be smart for him to take a week off. Johnson has acted as a decoy the past two weeks, and it would be worthwhile for owners to deal with one week of him being inactive, if it means he will be completely healthy, after.
Matt Prater, K10/7/2014 8:31:00 PM
Description: Kicker Matt Prater is expected to sign with the Detroit Lions. UPDATE: The Lions have offically signed kicker Matt Prater to a one-year deal, according to Adam Schefter.
Insight: Barring something unforseen, he will be signed within the next 24 hours. Prater immediately becomes fantasy-relevant, as he will be kicking indoors, in Detroit.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/6/2014 1:14:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson' s ankle injury continues to be a problem for the team as well as fantasy owners.
Insight: Before leaving Sunday, Johnson had one catch for seven yards. It would probably be best if he sat out until he gets healthy as if he's active fantasy owners are pretty much forced to start him.
Alex Henery, K10/6/2014 1:09:00 PM
Description: The Lions have waived kicker Alex Henery.
Insight: Detroit was not happy with the performance of Nate Freese who went 3-of-7 in the Lions' first three games and Henery who went 1-of-5, including 0-of-3 Sunday.
Golden Tate, WR10/5/2014 6:07:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Golden Tate caught seven passes for 134 yards and a touchdown against the Bills on Sunday.
Insight: Thank goodness Detroit signed him in the offseason or the Lions really wouldn't have anyone to throw to with Calvin Johnson banged up. Tate has 14 catches for 209 yards the last two games.
Reggie Bush, RB10/5/2014 3:56:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush left Sunday's game against the Bills with an ankle injury.
Insight: Bush suffered the injury in the fourth quarter and is questionable to return. He had eight touches for 43 yards before leaving.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/5/2014 3:06:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson left Sunday's game against the Bills with an ankle injury.
Insight: It is the same ankle Johnson came into the game with a question mark. He is questionable to return. Before leaving, Johnson had one catch for seven yards.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/5/2014 12:20:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson told teammates that he is playing against the Bills according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. UPDATE: Johnson is active on Sunday.
Insight: Johnson will play, so the bigger question is whether he will be a focal point in the passing attack against the Bills or just a decoy again. Either way, fantasy owners really can't afford to sit the best receiver in the game.
Joique Bell, RB10/5/2014 12:17:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell is inactive against the Bills on Sunday.
Insight: This was expected. Reggie Bush owners are happy since he will get all the carries out of the backfield.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/3/2014 3:57:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson said on Wednesday that his ankle feels better now than it did at any point last week, but according to Adam Schefter there is still a chance he sits Sunday.
Insight: Johnson was basically used as a decoy in Week 4 as he caught two passes for 12 yards against the Jets. He should be healthier against Buffalo in Week 5, but the team could also opt to gamble they can win without him and get him at 100 percent for the following weekend.
Joique Bell, RB10/3/2014 3:49:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell missed all the practices this week so can't be expected to play on Sunday.
Insight: Bell had already been questionable before the last game with a knee issue. It leaves on Reggie Bush as a running back with solid fantasy value backed up by just George Winn.
Golden Tate, WR10/2/2014 4:34:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Golden Tate appeared on the Detroit injury list and may have tweaked a hamstring in Thursday's practice.
Insight: Tate has been solid this season, hauling in at least five balls in each of the first four games and cracking the 100-yard mark against the Jets. It's certainly concerning and worth watching how/if he practices Friday.
Calvin Johnson, WR10/1/2014 3:15:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson said on Wednesday that his ankle feels better now than it did at any point last week according to the Detroit Free Press.
Insight: Johnson was basically used as a decoy in Week 4 as he caught two passes for 12 yards against the Jets. He should be closer to 100 percent against Buffalo in Week 5, but he should also receive double coverage.
George Winn, RB9/30/2014 2:12:00 PM
Description: The Detroit Lions have activated George Winn from their practice squad.
Insight: This is bad news for owners of Joique Bell (concussion) and Theo Riddick (hamstring) as it means one or both may not be ready to go Sunday.
Golden Tate, WR9/28/2014 5:35:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Golden Tate caught eight passes for 116 yards.
Insight: With the Jets dedicated to stopping Calvin Johnson, Tate stepped up with a big day. He led the team with 10 targets. Although it was discouraging to see Johnson only get two targets, Tate's play on Sunday will help draw defenders away from Megatron.
Matthew Stafford, QB9/28/2014 5:28:00 PM
Description: Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford went 24-for-34 with 293 yards and two touchdowns against a tough Jets pass defense in Week 4.
Insight: The Jets completely blanketed Megatron, but Stafford connected with Golden Tate eight times for 116 yards and to Jeremy Ross and Eric Ebron for touchdowns. Stafford has thrown for more than 290 yards in three of the four games to start 2014.
Theo Riddick, RB9/28/2014 3:48:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Theo Riddick suffered a hamstring injury and will not return to the game.
Insight: Riddick joins Joique Bell on the sidelines, leaving just Reggie Bush and fullback Jed Collins behind Matthew Stafford.
Joique Bell, RB9/28/2014 3:46:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell left Sunday's game with a possible concussion.
Insight: Bell had already been questionable for the game with a knee issue. It leaves on Reggie Bush as a running back as Theo Riddick is also watching from the sidelines.
Jeremy Ross, WR9/28/2014 1:59:00 PM
Description: Detroit backup wideout Jeremy Ross caught a 59-yard touchdown pass in the first half.
Insight: Normally a special teams guy, Ross was only seeing action because Calvin Johnson's ankle was acting up and he wasn't on the field for a third and long.
Calvin Johnson, WR9/28/2014 1:58:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson (ankle) has been in and out of the lineup in the first half against the Jets.
Insight: This is bad news. He's been in on 12 of the first 18 plays including three third-down plays, so he's obviously nowhere near 100 percent.
Calvin Johnson, WR9/25/2014 2:55:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson did not practice on Thursday due to an ankle injury according to Lions Insider.
Insight: We still expect Johnson to play, but owners were burned last season when the Lions announced Johnson inactive at the last minute. Check back on Friday and have a backup plan just in case.
Nate Freese, KCold9/22/2014 1:26:00 PM
Description: The Lions have released place-kicker Nate Freese.
Insight: We warned you last week that this might happen. The 24-year-old was just 3-of-7 this season. He has been replaced by former Eagles kicker Alex Henery.
Alex Henery, K9/22/2014 1:24:00 PM
Description: The Lions have signed former Eagles kicker Alex Henery.
Insight: Detroit was not happy with the performance of Nate Freese who went 3-of-7 in the Lions' first three games.
Calvin Johnson, WR9/21/2014 5:10:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson caught six balls for 82 yards while leading the team with 10 targets against the Packers in Week 3.
Insight: Johnson opened the season with ahuge game, but has been dull since. Today the Lions ran the ball more than passing it. Hopefully for Megatron owners that won't happen often.
Reggie Bush, RB9/21/2014 5:08:00 PM
Description: Wonder of wonders, the Lions ran the ball more than they passed it and tailback Reggie Bush put together the big game with 99 combined yards and a touchdown.
Insight: Bush still carried the rock fewer times than Joique Bell, but apparently that's the plan to keep Bush fresher.
Don Carey, S9/21/2014 3:03:00 PM
Description: Detroit safety Don Carey injured a hamstring in Sunday's game against the Packers and is not expected to return.
Insight: Carey scored the first points of the game on a 40-yard fumble return. His absence will make it tougher to slow down the Green Bay passing game.
Stephen Tulloch, LB9/21/2014 2:35:00 PM
Description: Lions MLB Stephen Tulloch left Sunday's game against Green bay due to a left-knee injury.
Insight: Tulloch will not return. Tahir Whitehead has taken over at middle linebacker for Detroit, who have held the Packers to just 111 yards in the first half.
Joique Bell, RB9/21/2014 12:01:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell (knee) had been limited in practice this week, but is active for Sunday;s division matchup with Green Bay
Insight: Bell has carried the ball 25 times over the first two games and is getting more work than Reggie Bush.
Joique Bell, RB9/19/2014 4:18:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell (knee) has been limited in practice this week, but most think its just managing the issue, nit a major problem and he'll be ready to go Sunday.
Insight: Bell has carried the ball 25 times over the first two games, but has fumbled the ball once in each of the first two games. It doesn't matter how well you run, if you put the ball on the turf, you won't get many opportunities.
Nate Freese, KCold9/16/2014 4:41:00 PM
Description: If you have Nate Freese on your roster, be concerned.
Insight: The 24-year-old is just 2-of-5 this season and apparently the team has brought in Rob Bironas, Alex Henery and Garrett Hartley for workouts, according to Adam Schefter.
Eric Ebron, TECold9/16/2014 3:48:00 PM
Description: Detroit rookie tight end Eric Ebron arrived with a lot of hype, but the production isn't there yet.
Insight: The Lions have a number of options in front of Ebron, namely Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate along with Joique Bell and Reggie Bush out of the backfield and Ebron has just seven targets, three catches and 38 yards. Ebron should only be owned in keeper leagues.
Golden Tate, WR9/16/2014 3:46:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Golden Tate is the solid No. 2 receiver behind Calvin Johnson with 14 targets over the first two weekends. The next closest wideout is Jeremy Ross with three targets.
Insight: It's about what we expected from Tate. He's totaled 150 yards and run the ball one time, but he's still searching for his first touchdown.
Reggie Bush, RB9/16/2014 3:43:00 PM
Description: Fantasy owners can't be happy with Lions running back Reggie Bush over the first two weeks of the season.
Insight: Bush has a total of 96 yards from scrimmage over the pair of games and backup Joique Bell is getting more rushing attempts than he is. Perhaps Bush's knee is more sore than he's let on to the public. This is a shared situation with a quarterback who likes to throw 650-700 times a season.
Matthew Stafford, QB9/16/2014 10:22:00 AM
Description: Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford couldn't solve the Carolina defense Sunday, throwing 48 times for 291 yards and one touchdowns.
Insight: Stafford did more with less in the season opener against the Giants when he threw just 32 passes, but amassed 346 yards and two scores. He was sacked four times and hurried on numerous others, so give credit to the tough Panthers defense. Stafford should get back on track next weekend versus the Packers against whom he has averaged 304 ypg in seven contests.
Joique Bell, RB9/15/2014 1:52:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell continues to get more work than Reggie Bush, but there is a major concern for fantasy owners.
Insight: Bell has fumbled the ball once in each of the first two games, though he recoved the miscue in the season opener. It doesn't matter how well you run, if you put the ball on the turf, you won't get many opportunities.
Joique Bell, RB9/14/2014 5:52:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell had twice as many touches in Sunday's game against Carolina than Reggie Bush.
Insight: Neither running back was very productive on the ground, but Bell caught six passes for 61 yards. He also rushed for 36 yards on 10 carries. Bush gained 26 rushing yards on six carries and caught two passes for six yards. At this point, Bell has just as much value as Bush does because it looks like they will truly share the backfield this season.
Calvin Johnson, WR9/14/2014 5:47:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Calvin Johnson caught six balls for 83 yards while leading the team with 13 targets against the Panthers in Week 2.
Insight: Johnson had a decent game but dropped a 30-yard touchdown, which led to a missed field goal. Even with the drop, Johnson was the only Lion who did not disappoint on Sunday.
Brandon Pettigrew, TE9/14/2014 12:03:00 PM
Description: Detroit tight end Brandon Pettigrew (foot) is active for Week 2 against Carolina.
Insight: Pettigrew is not a strong start this week, but if you have no other option, then he will be on the field.
Reggie Bush, RB9/14/2014 12:01:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush is active for Sunday's game against the Panthers.
Insight: Bush has a tough matchup on the road against Carolina, but it will help that Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy is inactive. Bush should be in your lineup.
Justin Durant, LB9/12/2014 3:25:00 PM
Description: Cowboys linebacker Justin Durant is expected to miss 3-4 weeks due to a groin injury.
Insight: Durant is Dallas' best linebacker with Sean Lee sidelined, so this isn't good. Kyle Wilbur and Rolando McClain will see a lot more playing time.
Golden Tate, WR9/12/2014 10:02:00 AM
Description: Lions receiver Golden Tate saw six targets in the season opener, second high behind Calvin Johnson (11).
Insight: It's about what we expected for the Lions' No. 2 guy. He caught all six for 93 yards, but no scores. We project Tate to have 70 receptions, 977 yards and seven touchdowns this year.
Brandon Pettigrew, TECold9/12/2014 9:56:00 AM
Description: Detroit tight end Brandon Pettigrew (foot) was back at practice Thursday.
Insight: Pettigrew shares time with Joseph Fauria and rooke Eric Ebron and is a non-factor for fantasy owners. He caught just 41 balls for 416 yards and two scores last season and had one catch for nine yards in the opener.
Reggie Bush, RB9/12/2014 9:53:00 AM
Description: Detroit running back Reggie Bush is dealing with knee soreness, but was a full participant in Thursday's practice.
Insight: That's an upgrade from Wednesday and bodes well for his being ready for Sunday's matchup against Carolina. The Panthers held Tampa Bay to 14 points and 113 yards on the ground and will be a good test for the Lions' running game.
Ryan Broyles, WR9/8/2014 6:34:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Ryan Broyles is inactive for Monday night's game against the Giants.
Insight: Receiver Kevin Ogletree is also inactive. Coery Fuller could be the Lions No. 3 wide receiver on Monday behind Calvin Johnson and Golden Tate.
Kris Durham, WR8/30/2014 1:57:00 PM
Description: Wideout Kris Durham was cut by the Detroit Lions
Insight: Durham had a history with Matthew Stafford (at Georgia) and when the Lions were short of healthy receivers last season he stepped in to catch 38 balls for 490 yards and a pair of scores. The team is deeper and healthier this season which made him expendable.
Drayton Florence, DB8/7/2014 2:18:00 PM
Description: Drayton Florence has returned to the Lions for the upcoming season, according to Tim Twentyman.
Insight: Florence played with the Lions in 2012 and then with the Carolina Panthers last season. He'll likely be down on the depth chart but the Lions are thin in the back row.
Joique Bell, RB7/30/2014 10:34:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell (knee) "cut and accelerated with ease" during team portions of practice Tuesday, according to mlive.com.
Insight: Bell sat out OTAs and minicamp due to a knee injury he's been dealing with since last season. The 27-year-old had 1,197 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns on 219 touches (166 carries) last season. He's expected to have closer to a 50 percent split of the touches with Reggie Bush this season after Bush had 277 touches in 14 games a year ago.
Calvin Johnson, WR7/30/2014 6:14:00 PM
Description: Mlive.com predicts Lions receiver Calvin Johnson's targets will decline in 2014 after the team brought in Golden Tate and drafted Eric Ebron.
Insight: Johnson drew 12 targets per game over the past two seasons, including 11.1 last year. Even if his targets drop, he's still going to see at least 10 per game and should have to face fewer double and triple coverages this season due to Detroit's new weapons. That should mean a catch-per-target rate closer to his 2012 rate of 59.5 percent than last season's 53.8 percent. Johnson is a monster and should be the top receiver drafted in all leagues, but he's probably a little overvalued in auction drafts. His average value in ESPN.com auctions is $50.50, well above Demaryius Thomas' $39.20, A.J. Green's $37.50, Dez Bryant's $35.6, Brandon Marshall's $32.2 and Julio Jones' $30.60.
Golden Tate, WR7/28/2014 11:42:00 AM
Description: Lions receiver Golden Tate has been removed from the active/PUP list and is on the practice field.
Insight: Tate was dealing with a sore shoulder in the spring, but was never in real danger of missing training camp time. We project Tate to have 70 receptions, 977 yards and seven touchdowns this year as Detroit's No. 2 receiver.
Golden Tate, WR7/23/2014 5:35:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Golden Tate has been placed on the active/PUP list, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Insight: It's unclear what's ailing Tate, who signed a five-year, $31 million contract with the Lions this offseason. We project Tate to have 70 receptions, 977 yards and seven touchdowns this year as Detroit's No. 2 receiver.
Joique Bell, RB7/8/2014 9:53:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell (knee) has gained clearance to run at full speed, according to mlive.com.
Insight: "I'm feeling 100 percent," Bell said. "I'm feeling great." Bell sat out OTAs and minicamp due to a knee injury he's been dealing with since last season. The 27-year-old had 1,197 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns on 219 touches (166 carries) last season. He's expected to have closer to a 50 percent split of the touches with Reggie Bush this season after Bush had 277 touches in 14 games a year ago.
Brandon Pettigrew, TECold7/4/2014 2:06:00 PM
Description: Detroit tight end Brandon Pettigrew apparently can see the handwriting on the wall and is "embracing" his role as a blocker, says Carlos Monarrez of the Detroit Free Press.
Insight: Pettigrew isn't the player he once was and the addition on rookie Eric Ebron should make Pettigrew a non-factor for fantasy owners.
Eric Ebron, TE7/1/2014 10:44:00 AM
Description: Detroit rookie tight end Eric Ebron has been learning more than just the one position and recently told the Ross Tucker Football Podcast he expected to line up in the slot half the time.
Insight: The Lions have a number of options in front of Ebron, namely Calvin Johnson, Golden Tate, Brandon Pettigrew and Reggie Bush out of the backfield, so we don't believe he'll be a viable fantasy option this season, but in 2015-16 he certainly should be.
Chris Houston, CB6/13/2014 9:02:00 PM
Description: The Lions have released cornerback Chris Houston. SOURCE: Detroit Free Press
Insight: Houston had toe surgery a month ago and has been slow to recover. He's logged at least one interception in each of his last six seasons.
Tony Scheffler, TE6/11/2014 8:19:00 PM
Description: Former Broncos and Lions tight end Tony Scheffler is calling it quits after eight NFL seasons. SOURCE: Associated Press
Insight: Scheffler suffered his third concussion last year before getting cut by Detroit He'll finish his career with 258 catches, 3,207 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns in 107 games.
Ryan Broyles, WR5/25/2014 9:59:00 PM
Description: Lions receiver Ryan Broyles is closing in on a full recovery from a ruptured Achilles tendon, according to mlive.com.
Insight: Broyles suffered a catastophic injury in each of the last three years -- two ACL tears and a ruptured Achilles. He didn't see many targets when he was active last season, even when Nate Burleson was out with a fractured arm. Burleson signed with the Cleveland Browns, but Detroit inked Golden Tate to a big contract and drafted tight end Eric Ebron 10th overall. While his recovery is a good story, Broyles won't have any fantasy value this year.
Ndamukong Suh, DT5/5/2014 7:51:00 PM
Description: The Lions are not looking to trade Pro Bowl defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh. SOURCE: Michael Rothstein, ESPN
Insight: Suh was a first team All-Pro selection in 2013, the third time he's received that honor since joining the league in 2010. He's not scheduled to hit free agency until 2016.
Brandon Pettigrew, TE3/14/2014 1:35:00 PM
Description: Although courted by the New York Jets and others, Detroit tight end Brandon Pettigrew has agreed to a four-year deal with the Lions.
Insight: Pettigrew isn't an explosive tight end in the Jimmy Graham mold, but when healthy he's been a consistent contributor in an offense that throws the ball 650-700 times a year.
Golden Tate, WR3/12/2014 3:39:00 PM
Description: Former Seattle wide receiver Golden Tate has agreed to a five-year deal with Detroit. SOURCE: Jason La Canfora, CBS Sports
Insight: That should take some of the pressure off Calvin Johnson. Tate made 64 catches for 898 yards last season. Both of those were career-highs. He's a WR3 in most fantasy formats.
Joique Bell, RB3/11/2014 6:27:00 PM
Description: Halfback Joique Bell will stay with the Lions on a new three-year, $9.3 million contract. SOURCE: Adam Caplan, ESPN
Insight: Bell was one of fantasy's pleasant surprises last season, contributing 1,201 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns in his 16 appearances. He won't see as big a workload as Reggie Bush but Bell is still worth owning in all formats.
Kevin Ogletree, WR3/11/2014 4:29:00 PM
Description: Detroit retained wideout Kevin Ogletree for another season as they came to terms on a one-year deal.
Insight: Ogletree doesn't figure to be a major contributor next season as the Lions are thought to be picking a top wide receiver early in this year's draft.
Nate Burleson, WR2/15/2014 11:25:00 AM
Description: The Lions have released wide receiver Nate Burleson. SOURCE: Dave Birkett, Detroit Free Press
Insight: Burleson reeled in 39 catches for 461 yards last season. His best year came in 2004 when he went over 1,000 yards for the Vikings while scoring nine touchdowns. Burleson shouldn't be a free agent for long but we'll have to see where he ends up before recommending him as a fantasy option.
Calvin Johnson, WR12/29/2013 11:39:00 AM
Description: The Lions will be without Pro Bowl wide receiver Calvin Johnson on Sunday. SOURCE: Eric Karabell, ESPN
Insight: Johnson is sitting out with a sprained knee. He'll probably have the knee operated on shortly after the season. With Johnson sidelined, it appears Cleveland wideout Josh Gordon will win the NFL receiving yards title. He's at 1,562 yards through 13 games. Johnson had 1,492 yards in his 14 games this season.
Calvin Johnson, WR12/29/2013 11:02:00 AM
Description: Detroit wideout Calvin Johnson will probably need knee surgery after the season. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Apparently Johnson has some loose bodies in his knee that need to be cleaned out. He's just eight yards away from his third consecutive 1,500 yard receiving season, which would be an NFL record. He'll be a game-time call today against Minnesota.
Calvin Johnson, WR12/27/2013 12:51:00 PM
Description: Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson (knee) didn't practice Friday, according to Tim Twentyman of detroitlions.com.
Insight: Johnson has struggled over the past three weeks, unfortunately the three weeks that make up the fantasy playoffs, totaling 12 receptions for 193 yards and zero touchdowns. With nothing to play for, Megatron could be given the week off. Kris Durham and Nate Burleson would get more targets if Johnson sits.
Calvin Johnson, WR12/26/2013 12:37:00 PM
Description: Detroit star wide receiver Calvin Johnson (knee) missed Thursday's practice and is questionable for Sunday's game against Minnesota.
Joique Bell, RB12/25/2013 10:58:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell was held out of Wednesday's practice due to a sore knee.
Insight: Bell was used a season-high 30 times last Sunday as he totaled 154 combined yards and a touchdown, but the workload may have taken its toll on the running back. We will know more later in the week.
Brandon Pettigrew, TE12/25/2013 10:49:00 PM
Description: Detroit tight end Brandon Pettigrew has been ruled out for Week 17 as the tyeam has placed him on the injured reserve.
Insight: Joseph Fauria, who has been a touchdown machine in his rookie season (seven of his 15 receptions have gone for touchdowns), will get the start.
Calvin Johnson, WR12/24/2013 2:47:00 PM
Description: Rumors persist that Detroit star wide receiver Calvin Johnson owners has been playing with a partially torn PCL.
Insight: Johnson has struggled over the past three weeks, unfortunately the three weeks that make up the fantasy playoffs, totaling 12 receptions for 193 yards and zero touchdowns. If he is injured at least we would have a reasonable explanation for the drop in production.
Calvin Johnson, WR12/22/2013 2:38:00 PM
Description: Calvin Johnson owners can breathe again as the All-Pro receiver is active for Week 16.
Insight: Johnson was a true game-time decision in the biggest week of the fantasy season. He may not be 100 percent, but that should still be good enough for fantasy owners.
Calvin Johnson, WR12/22/2013 12:41:00 PM
Description: Detroit receiver Calvin Johnson (knee) is not guaranteed to play Sunday against the Giants, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, but Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press and Tim Twentyman of DetroitLions.com think he'll suit up.
Insight: Johnson will be a true game-time decision in the biggest week of the fantasy season, and he plays at 4:05 p.m. ET, which could put some fantasy owners in a bind.
Brandon Pettigrew, TE12/20/2013 4:43:00 PM
Description: Detroit tight end Brandon Pettigrew, who was on crutches earlier in the week, couldn't make it back in time and has been ruled out for Week 16.
Insight: Joseph Fauria, who has been a touchdown machine in his rookie season (seven of his 12 receptions have gone for touchdowns), will get the start but he'll let you down if he doesn't catch a touchdown.
Calvin Johnson, WR12/20/2013 1:25:00 PM
Description: Detroit receiver Calvin Johnson missed Wednesday and Thursday's practice, as has become his normal MO, but returned for Friday's session, according to beat writer Tim Twentyman.
Insight: Johnson dropped a couple in the Monday night loss to Baltimore, but is still the best receiver in the league facing a vulnerable Giants secondary.
Brandon Pettigrew, TE12/19/2013 10:13:00 AM
Description: Detroit tight end Brandon Pettigrew was seen on crutches Wednesday at the team's practice facility. SOURCE: Detroit Free Press
Insight: That won't help his chances of playing Sunday against the Giants. He's listed as questionable with an ankle injury though he might be closer to doubtful. Joseph Fauria, who has been a touchdown machine in his rookie season (seven of his 12 receptions have gone for touchdowns), would likely get the start if Pettigrew can't play in Week 16.
Reggie Bush, RB12/16/2013 7:35:00 PM
Description: Detroit running back Reggie Bush is active for Monday night's game against the Ravens. He was sidelined by a calf injury last week in Philadelphia. SOURCE: Tim Twentyman, Lions.com
Insight: Fantasy owners who weren't able to get Bush out of their lineup in time last Sunday probably don't have much to play for in Week 15. If you were one of the lucky ones who got Bush out in time, make sure to get him back in your lineup this week. Let's hope he makes it through warmups unscathed this time around.
Justin Durant, LB12/16/2013 10:33:00 AM
Description: Cowboys linebacker Justin Durant left Sunday's game with a hamstring injury.
Insight: Just what Dallas needed - anothe injury at linebacker. They were already without their best "backer" in Sean Lee and also lost Ernie Sims in the game to a neck injury. No wonder Eddie Lacy ran so well.
Reggie Bush, RB12/14/2013 5:06:00 PM
Description: Lions beat writer Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press expects running back Reggie Bush (calf) to play Monday night against the Ravens.
Insight: Bush suffered a calf injury during practice last week and aggravated it when he slipped during warmups on Sunday. He's expected to play his regular allotment of snaps if he's active, but fantasy owners who don't also have Joique Bell are taking a risk starting him with no other options available Monday.
Reggie Bush, RB12/12/2013 2:25:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush (calf) said he expects to play in Week 15, but fantasy owners would like to see him practice before putting him in the lineup.
Insight: Bush aggravated his calf injury during practice last week but was in line to play against Philadelphia, then had problems in warmup and didn't play a single down. With a game on Monday night, owners who don't own Joique Bell, will have a tough decision to make.
Calvin Johnson, WR12/12/2013 2:20:00 PM
Description: Detroit receiver Calvin Johnson missed Wednesday's practice, as has become his normal MO, but returned for Thursday's session.
Insight: Johnson struggled in the blizzard-like conditions at Philadelphia last week, but he'll be back inside a dome for Sunday's game with Baltimore.
Reggie Bush, RB12/11/2013 1:55:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush (calf) said he expects to play in Week 15, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. The running back was a late scratch in Week 14 against the Eagles after he slipped in the snow during warmups and aggravated his calf injury.
Insight: Bush suffered the injury during practice last week but was in line to play against Philadelphia. Joique Bell ended up starting and handling 27 touches in the blizzard conditions. Because Detroit plays Monday against the Ravens, its first official practice of the week will come Thursday.
Reggie Bush, RB12/9/2013 2:21:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush will be questionable for Week 15 following the very, very late scratch from the lineup Sunday.
Insight: Bush slipped and aggravated his calf injury during warmups resulting in his not playing Sunday against Philadelphia. Unfortunately, it was just before the kickoff that fantasy owners got the news and many couldn't make a lineup change in time.
Reggie Bush, RB12/8/2013 1:08:00 PM
Description: Lions halfback Reggie Bush slipped and aggravated his calf injury during warmups and wasn't able to start Sunday's game against Philadelphia.
Insight: Joique Bell was in the backfield for the Lions' first offensive series. There's been no definitive word from the team as to whether or not Bush will play, but given the snowy weather conditions there probably won't be a lot of offense in this game anyway.
Reggie Bush, RB12/8/2013 12:53:00 PM
Description: Lions halfback Reggie Bush slipped and aggravated his calf injury during warmups and is now questionable for Sunday's game versus the Eagles. SOURCE: NBC's Pro Football Talk
Insight: If you have Joique Bell as a handcuff to Bush, you have about six minutes to get him into your lineup. Keep in mind, the snowy conditions in Philadelphia probably won't be conducive to fantasy success. The snow is affecting many games around the NFL so fantasy owners shouldn't expect a high-scoring week.
Reggie Bush, RB12/8/2013 10:50:00 AM
Description: It sounds like Detroit halfback Reggie Bush will suit up for Sunday's game in Philadelphia. He had been listed as questionable with a calf injury. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: It's a hugely important game for both teams and the Lions need their star running back to play a pivotal role. He's coming off a successful outing versus Green Bay (117 yards rushing, 1 TD) and should have another strong game Sunday against the Eagles' 19th-ranked run defense.
Reggie Bush, RB12/6/2013 6:28:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush (calf) practiced Friday and is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Eagles.
Insight: Bush missed the previous two days of practice. According to Tim Twentyman of detroitlions.com, Bush looked "pretty good" in the portion of practice open to the media on Friday, but the team is not ready to make him a sure thing to play Sunday.
Reggie Bush, RB12/4/2013 4:09:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Reggie Bush missed Wednesday's practice due to a calf injury, according to Tim Twentyman of detroitlions.com.
Insight: Bush practiced Tuesday, so he either suffered the injury then or was simply getting a day off Wednesday. We'll track his progress the rest of the week.
Calvin Johnson, WRHot11/28/2013 4:19:00 PM
Description: Detroit receiver Calvin Johnson appeared to tweak his knee on an end-zone jump ball in the third quarter Thursday against Green Bay. He returned to the game after being checked out on the sideline, but wasn't targeted again after that.
Insight: Johnson had 101 yards and a touchdown on six catches in the game, but Sam Shields fell on his knee after making an interception on an underthrown Matthew Stafford pass in the end zone. The Lions went up 33-10 with 13:06 left in the fourth quarter and stuck mostly with the run game after that, so that may explain Johnson's lack of targets. He has 10 days to heal up before playing at Philadelphia in Week 14.
Joique Bell, RB11/28/2013 4:13:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell had 94 rushing yards on 19 carries, 34 receiving yards on three catches and one touchdown Thursday against the Packers.
Insight: The Lions controlled the pace of the game from the outset and ran the ball 43 times for 241 yards and two touchdowns. While Bell has remained involved in the offense as a backup to Reggie Bush, his production has been inconsistent. The 27-year-old has 813 yards from scrimmage (435 rushing, 378 receiving) and six scores in 12 games.
Reggie Bush, RB11/28/2013 4:09:00 PM
Description: Lions tailback Reggie Bush lost a fumble early in Thursday's game against the Packers but coach Jim Schwartz stuck with him and Bush provided 182 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown on 25 touches (20 carries, five receptions).
Insight: Bush has lost three fumbles over the last five games. After producing 117 rushing yards and 65 receiving yards Thursday, Bush has 854 rushing yards on 180 carries (4.7 ypc), 448 receiving yards on 45 catches and five touchdowns.
Matthew Stafford, QB11/28/2013 4:07:00 PM
Description: Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 330 yards and three touchdowns with three turnovers (two interceptions, one fumble) Thursday against the Packers.
Insight: Stafford picked up his first career win against Green Bay and Detroit's first win on Thanksgiving since 2003. The QB has turned the football over seven times over his last two games but he's also thrown for 627 yards and six touchdowns.
Matthew Stafford, QBCold11/24/2013 6:51:00 PM
Description: Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford (3 TD, 4 INT, 297 yards) struggled in Sunday's loss to Tampa Bay.
Insight: His four interceptions Sunday were a season-high. Over his last two games, Stafford has logged a miserable 68.2 quarterback rating on 92 pass attempts. With the Lions now tied with Chicago for first in the division, he'll need to get back on track quickly. Detroit's next game is Thursday against the Packers.
Nate Burleson, WR11/24/2013 11:52:00 AM
Description: As expected, Lions receiver Nate Burleson will return to the field Sunday against Tampa Bay.
Insight: It's not a bad spot either as Calvin Johnson figures to be covered by Darrelle Revis, which would leave Burleson wide open. Burleson had missed Detroit's last seven games with a broken arm.
Joique Bell, RB11/24/2013 11:47:00 AM
Description: Detroit halfback Joique Bell is active for Sunday's contest against the Buccaneers.
Insight: Bell had been questionable with a foot injury. Though not an ideal option, you could do worse for a replacement if one of your starters (Marshawn Lynch or LeSean McCoy perhaps) is on bye.
Calvin Johnson, WRHot11/24/2013 11:29:00 AM
Description: Bucs corner Darrelle Revis will be asked to cover Calvin Johnson on Sunday. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL Network
Insight: Revis may be the toughest defender Johnson has faced all season but at 6-foot-5, he does have a significant height advantage (Revis is only 5-foot-11). Johnson had just one catch for 13 yards the last time he faced Revis back in 2010. Obviously, if you own Megatron, you have to start him.
Joique Bell, RB11/22/2013 5:13:00 PM
Description: Lions running back Joique Bell (foot) got in a full practice session Friday, according to Tim Twentyman of detroitlions.com.
Insight: Bell suffered a foot injury late in the third quarter of Sunday's game, but he should be able to play in Week 12. He saw more work than Reggie Bush against the Steelers due to Bush's fumble and some sloppy weather conditions, but Bush will be back in the lead role at Ford Field Sunday against Tampa Bay.
Nate Burleson, WR11/22/2013 4:54:00 PM
Description: Detroit wideout Nate Burleson (arm) is probable for Sunday's game against Tampa Bay after being cleared for contact Friday. SOURCE: Tim Twentyman, detroitlions.com
Insight: Burleson hasn't played since September after breaking his arm in a car accident. The 32-year-old averaged 7.7 targets, 6.3 receptions and 79.7 yards in the first three games and should see plenty of targets against the Buccaneers with Calvin Johnson shadowed by Darrelle Revis.
