NBA Game Summary - Orlando at Detroit

(Tuesday, January 22nd)

Final Score: Detroit 105, Orlando 90

Auburn Hills, MI (Sports Network) - Andre Drummond and Jason Maxiell each recorded double-doubles with 11 points and 11 rebounds, helping the Detroit Pistons past the struggling Orlando Magic, 105-90, on Tuesday.

Brandon Knight led Detroit with 18 points and Greg Monroe chipped in 16 points and six boards for the Pistons, who have won two straight following a loss to the Knicks in London last Thursday. Will Bynum and Rodney Stuckey donated 15 and 14 points, respectively.

"That's part of the identity of our team," Pistons guard Kyle Singler said. "There's not a lot of games where guys are scoring 20 or 30. Individually, we get a wide variety of points from different players."

J.J. Redick scored a game-high 26 points on 9-of-10 shooting and netted five 3-pointers for the Magic, who have lost three straight and 14 of their last 16 games overall. Jameer Nelson contributed 14 points and nine assists in the defeat.

After a first half which saw both teams play very efficient, Orlando trailed, 54-52, but shot 51.2 percent from the floor and turned the ball over five times, compared to 40.4 percent and only two turnovers for the Pistons, things quickly changed.

In the third quarter, Detroit opened things up as Monroe, who had just six points in the first half, scored his 10th of the stanza alone on an open court steal and slam, which gave the Pistons a 74-62 edge with 4:51 left.

Drummond closed out Detroit's powerful quarter of play with back-to-back dunks, one, an alley oop from Bynum, the other, off an open court steal to cap off a 28-14 run and give the Pistons an 82-66 lead heading into the fourth.

"I'm a little surprised because I was enthused and excited about our approach tonight," Magic coach Jacque Vaughn said. "I thought we had a great shoot- around and I was looking forward to the game and it's just not the results that we were after. (Detroit) played well and at the end of the day you have to play on both ends of the floor."

Detroit extended its lead to as many as 21 points two times in the final quarter of play and was able to manage the game thanks to the superb lead it had built.

Much of the Pistons' success related to the team's season-low total of eight turnovers, resulting in just nine Orlando points. Plus, a 16-6 edge on offensive boards.
