Denver Nuggets 2014 Draft Preview
Draft picks: 1st round (11th overall), 2nd round (41st, 56th overall)
By Jim Brighters, NBA Editor
(SportsNetwork.com) - The Denver Nuggets found themselves in the draft lottery for the first time since 2003.
That year, the Nuggets kicked off an impressive string of playoff appearances, based on the strength of that year's No. 3 pick in the draft, Carmelo Anthony of Syracuse.
Denver wasn't as fortunate this lottery trip, getting the 11th pick.
There is a lot of talent on the Nuggets roster. Former Coach of the Year George Karl molded them into a high seed, but new coach Brian Shaw endured a tough first season, marred by injuries.
Danilo Gallinari didn't play a minute after knee surgery. JaVale McGee barely saw the floor because of a stress fracture in his left tibia. Nate Robinson tore his ACL.
Truth be told, the Nuggets have a very deep roster when healthy. The only hole seems to be at the shooting guard, which is currently manned by Randy Foye and Evan Fournier.
Gary Harris of Michigan State could be available at No. 11. He's a two-way player ready to step into the NBA rigors immediately.
Michigan's Nick Stauskas is more of a natural shooter than Harris and is likely to be there when the Nuggets go on the clock.
It's possible, if Robinson opts out, which is unlikely considering his major knee surgery, and Aaron Brooks leaves via free agency, backup point guard is a concern. Lawson gets dinged up quite a bit, so Syracuse's Tyler Ennis could be an option.
