National League Game Summary - Washington at Chicago, Game Two
(Saturday, June 28)
Final Score: Washington 7, Chicago 2
Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork.com) - Wilson Ramos hit a home run to start a four- run fifth inning as the Washington Nationals downed the Chicago Cubs, 7-2, to sweep a scheduled doubleheader.
Adam LaRoche hit a solo home run and drove in two for the Nationals, who took the final two games after dropping the first two of this four-game set.
"It's nice to end (the series) on that note," Nationals manager Matt Williams said.
Blake Treinen (1-3) gave up just two runs on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts over five innings for the first win of his career.
Luis Valbuena hit a two-run home run for the Cubs, who had won three of four coming into Saturday's action.
Jeff Samardzija (2-7) was touched for six runs -- five earned -- on seven hits in five innings of work.
"They jumped on me right off the bat," Samardzija said.
In the earlier game, Gio Gonzalez and two relievers combined for a three-hit shutout in a 3-0 win for the Nationals.
This was the first scheduled doubleheader at Wrigley Field since July 4, 1983 when the Cubs played the Montreal Expos. Sunday's scheduled contest was moved up a day due to the annual Pride Parade in Chicago on Sunday.
Valbuena tied the game at 2-2 in the fourth with his fifth home run of the season before a rain delay caused the game to be stopped for 55 minutes with two outs in the fourth. Nate Schierholtz struck out to end the inning when play resumed.
Ramos led off the fifth with his second home run of the season to give the Nats the lead, and the team added three more runs on RBI singles from Kevin Frandsen and Jayson Werth, and plated another run when Anthony Rizzo misplayed an LaRoche grounder for a 6-2 lead.
The Cubs left men at first and third in the sixth, but were retired in order over the next three innings to close out the game.
LaRoche added an RBI single in the ninth to account for the final score, and also had a solo home run to start the second.
Anthony Rendon's sacrifice fly in the third gave Washington a 2-0 lead.
Washington hosts Colorado for three games starting on Monday ... Chicago starts an 11-game road trip in Boston on Monday ... The Nationals have won five of the past seven games against the Cubs.
