Arizona Cardinals Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Andre Ellington, RB10/22/2014 3:57:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington (ribs, foot) was limited during Wednesday's practice session.
Insight: There does not seem to be any issues with Ellington's injuries, putting him on track to be an RB1 this weekend against the Eagles.
Michael Floyd, WR10/20/2014 10:14:00 AM
Description: Arizona wide receiver Michael Floyd's poor day was saved by a 33-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter.
Insight: Floyd has caught just 47 yards worth of passes in each of the past two games, but he's scored in each game so give fantasy owners double-digits.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR10/20/2014 10:12:00 AM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald was dull on Sunday against Oakland, catching just four short balls for 21 yards.
Insight: Fitzgerald is no longer the Cardinals' deep threat, but he can still give fantasy owners solid production most of the time. Chalk this one up to not being needed to beat the Raiders.
Carson Palmer, QB10/20/2014 10:10:00 AM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer was solid Sunday against Oakland, throwing for 253 yards and two scores.
Insight: The Arizona offense runs so much more efficiently with Palmer under center. He's thrown two touchdowns passes in all three games he's played this season. Oh, and the team is 3-0 under his direction.
Andre Ellington, RB10/20/2014 10:07:00 AM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington saw another full workload, rushing 24 times and seeing nine targets.
Insight: Ellington rushed for 88 yards (3.7 ypc) and caught six for 72 yards, but failed to get into the end zone. Fantasy owners love the workload as long as his foot injury doesn't get any worse. They can't be happy that backup RB Stepfan Taylor scored twice.
Carson Palmer, QB10/15/2014 3:38:00 PM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer is fully practicing this week according to azcardinals.com.
Insight: Palmer did not suffer a setback in Week 6 against the Redskins and is safe to pickup and stream against the Raiders in Week 7.
Calais Campbell, DE10/14/2014 9:11:00 PM
Description: Cardinals defensive lineman Calais Campbell has began jogging and is expected to return in Week 8 according to Fox Sports 1.
Insight: Campbell sprained his MCL on a controversial low block from Broncos tight end Julius Thomas in Week 5. Ed Stinson, who started for Campbell this past week, will start again in Week 7.
Carson Palmer, QB10/13/2014 4:33:00 PM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer threw 44 times for 250 yards and a pair of touchdowns and according to coach Bruce Arians felt good Monday.
Insight: Palmer's shoulder must have felt good to throw that often and now that he's still ok a day later fantasy owners should be confident that he'll play in Week 7.
Michael Floyd, WR10/13/2014 10:38:00 AM
Description: Arizona wide receiver Michael Floyd's day was saved by a 20-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.
Insight: Floyd caught just three balls for 27 yards over the final three quarters. We've come to expect more, but he still managed double digit fantasy points.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR10/13/2014 10:37:00 AM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald led Arizona in receiving with 98 yards and a score on six receptions.
Insight: Fitzgerald obviously enjoyed the return of Carson Palmer. He's no longer the Cardinals' deep threat, but he can still give fantasy owners solid production.
Andre Ellington, RB10/13/2014 10:35:00 AM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington saw another full workload.
Insight: Ellington rushed for 67 yards on 19 carries and caught six balls, but for just 26 yards.
Carson Palmer, QB10/13/2014 10:32:00 AM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer threw 44 times for 250 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Insight: Palmer's shoulder must have felt good to throw that often. he hit both Larry Fitzgerald and Michale Floyd for touchdowns.
Carson Palmer, QB10/12/2014 3:30:00 PM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer made all the throws in pregame and is active and expected to start against the Washington Redskins.
Insight: Palmer's return should boost the values for Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd.
Drew Stanton, QB10/10/2014 10:21:00 PM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton has been cleared to play in Week 6 against the Redskins.
Insight: Stanton had to pass one more concussion test in order for doctors to give him the go-ahead to suit up. There is still a chance Carson Palmer gets the start for the first time since Week 1, but this news pretty much rules out Logan Thomas making his first career start in the NFL.
Andre Ellington, RB10/10/2014 5:31:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington is a solid RB1 despite the quarterback situation in Arizona.
Insight: Ellington probably sees his stock rise because third-string quarterback Logan Thomas might start. The Redskins defense hasn't allowed many fantasy points to opposing backs this year, but they did allowed 225 rushing yards to Seattle at home. Ellington should see more than 20 touches on Sunday.
Carson Palmer, QB10/10/2014 4:37:00 PM
Description: Cardinals coach Bruce Arians told azcardinals.com that quarterback Carson Palmer threw at Friday's practice and had "some decent velocity" on this passes.
Insight: Arians also added that for the first time in 20 years, he honestly does not know who is starting at quarterback. It is encouraging Palmer threw in some capacity at practice. He very well could get the starting nod with backup Drew Stanton still not fully cleared from his concussion.
Logan Thomas, QB10/9/2014 5:45:00 PM
Description: With Carson Palmer likely out for Week 6 and Drew Stanton still to undergo a concussion test, third-string quarterback Logan Thomas is taking all the first-team reps in practice this week.
Insight: Thomas did not look very good against the Broncos, going 1-for-8 but that pass went for 81 yards and a touchdown to Andre Ellington. The week of practice will likely help the rookie for this Sunday if he does indeed start against the Redskins. Thomas is not on the fantasy radar yet, but the bigger concern is whether Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd take a dip in value with Thomas under center.
Drew Stanton, QB10/9/2014 5:43:00 PM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton (concussion) has yet to pass his final test.
Insight: Stanton apparently is "feeling good", according to Darren Urban, but still has another step to get through, in the concussion protocol. Carson Palmer (shoulder) continues to look unlikely for Week 6 against Washington. Logan Thomas would get his first career start, if both Palmer and Stanton are unable to suit up.
Carson Palmer, QB10/9/2014 5:38:00 PM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer was limited in Thursday's practice due to his shoulder issue and will be in Denver on Friday to receive treatment according to FOX Sports.
Insight: This makes Palmer unlikely for Week 6. With the Cardinals already having their bye, fantasy owners are likely growing impatient with Palmer, who still really doesn't know when he will be able to play.
Andre Ellington, RB10/8/2014 8:06:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington was limited in Wednesday's practice because of his foot.
Insight: Ellington has not fully practiced all season because of his foot, so this really isn't a concern. Washington is a tough matchup, but Marshawn Lynch gained over 100 yards of offense and caught a touchdown pass, so Ellington is a low-end RB1 or high-end RB2.
Carson Palmer, QB10/8/2014 4:19:00 PM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer (shoulder) got in a limited practice on Wednesday.
Insight: He has been throwing the past two days without any issues, but coach Bruce Arians indicated that Palmer would have to get in a full practice session to be declared eligible to start Sunday against the Redskins. Owners must monitor his progress as we move forward, this week.
Jay Feely, K10/6/2014 1:08:00 PM
Description: Former long-time Arizona kicker Jay Feely will be in Detroit for a visit and could be a replacement for Alex Henery, who was waived Monday.
Insight: Feely went 30-for-36 last season for the Cardinals. The combination of Nate Freese and Henery went 4-of-12.
Michael Floyd, WRCold10/6/2014 9:31:00 AM
Description: Arizona wide receiver Michael Floyd disappeared Sunday, catching just one ball for seven yards.
Insight: He was targeted seven times which is respectable. A check of his game log shows he's got a pattern of putting up big numbers every other game so plan on a big day in Week 6.
Andre Ellington, RB10/6/2014 9:29:00 AM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington couldn't get anything going in the running game, but his pass-catching skills saved fantasy owners.
Insight: Ellington rushed 16 times for just 32 yards, but caught four balls for 112 yards, including an 81-yard catch and run for a score. That's the advantage of having a RB who is also part of the passing packages.
Drew Stanton, QB10/5/2014 6:34:00 PM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton left the Week 5 against the Broncos and is being checked for a concussion.
Insight: With Carson Palmer inactive, that leaves just Logan Thomas to lead the Cardinals offense. Thomas is a rookie out of Virginia Tech.
Drew Stanton, QB10/3/2014 10:26:00 PM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Drew Stanton will get another start in Week 5 against the Broncos.
Insight: Carson Palmer is still not healed from a nerve issue, which will allow Stanton to make his third start of the season. With Pamler's injury acting in an unpredictable way, Stanton could be Arizona's starter for the foreseeable future.
Carson Palmer, QB10/3/2014 5:09:00 PM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer has been declared out for Week 5 against Denver.
Insight: Drew Stanton will continue to fill in for the undefeated Cardinals, though he's yet to produce big numbers (32-of-62 for 411 yards and two touchdowns in his two starts).
Carson Palmer, QB10/1/2014 9:07:00 PM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer is seeking a second opinion on his shoulder.
Insight: Good news came out yesterday about Palmer throwing, as the nerve issue is in his throwing shoulder. However, things are certainly not right with him, and he should be considered extremely questionable to start Sunday at Denver. Drew Stanton will continue to fill in for the undefeated Cardinals.
Carson Palmer, QB9/30/2014 2:00:00 PM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer is probable for Sunday's game against Denver, though he also said "the nerve in his shoulder hasn't progressed as much as he had hoped," to Ed Werder.
Insight: It sounds like Palmer is certainly not 100 percent, and given that, management might not start him. Drew Stanton is still an option until we hear further on Palmer's condition.
Carson Palmer, QB9/25/2014 2:20:00 PM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer said he will "definitely" be back following the team's Week 4 bye according to ESPN.
Insight: It sounds like Palmer is past the worst of the damaged nerve in his shoulder. He has tossed the ball around a little bit, and he hopes to finally throw for real later this week. However, do not expect Palmer's arm strength to return over night, which makes not only Palmer owners nervous but also Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd and even Andre Ellington owners nervous as well.
Antonio Cromartie, CB9/22/2014 1:45:00 PM
Description: Cardinals ornerback Antonio Cromartie suffered a hyperentended knee and bone bruise in Sunday's game against the 49ers.
Insight: Cromartie will likely miss a few games, but at least he avoided any tears. Jerraud Powers will likely play across from All-Pro cornerback Patrick Peterson and that's where defenses will attack.
Michael Floyd, WR9/22/2014 10:36:00 AM
Description: Arizona wide receiver Michael Floyd was temporary starter Drew Stanton's favorite target seeing catching 5-of-9 targets for 114 yards.
Insight: Floyd appears to be the number one option in Arizona's passing attack ahead of veteran Larry Fitzgerald bouncing back from a disappointing Week 2 effort for his second 100-yard game in three contests.
Drew Stanton, QB9/22/2014 10:35:00 AM
Description: Cardinals backup quarterback Drew Stanton was the starter again in Week 3 while Carson Palmer tries to get over his shoulder injury and he played well.
Insight: Stanton was 18-of-33 for 244 yards and two scores without throwing an interception. He seemed to favor Michael Floyd over Larry Fitzgerald.
Carson Palmer, QB9/19/2014 3:52:00 PM
Description: Arizona QB Carson Palmer has no idea when he'll be able to return to the field, but has already been ruled out for Week3.
Insight: "It's just one of those things you've just got to wait and hope it wakes up," he told the Arizona Republic. Drew Stanton started and won the game with the New York Giants in Week 2, though he wasn't fantasy worthy.
Drew Stanton, QB9/19/2014 3:50:00 PM
Description: Cardinals backup quarterback Drew Stanton will be the starter in Week 3 while Carson Palmer tries to get over his shoulder injury.
Insight: Stanton was 14-of-29 for 167 yards and no scores against the New York Giants in his first start last Sunday. The Cardinals face the 49ers, so despite having two solid receivers in Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd, we recommend staying away.
Dave Zastudil, P9/19/2014 3:43:00 PM
Description: Cardinals punter Dave Zastudil is questionable for Sunday's game against San Francisco due to a groin injury.
Insight: Arizona has signed another punter - Drew Butler.
Michael Floyd, WR9/16/2014 3:47:00 PM
Description: Arizona wide receiver Michael Floyd had a down week during Sunday's victory over the Giants.
Insight: He had only one catch for 19 yards, but did have six targets. Floyd is now the number one option in Arizona's passing attack, but for however long Drew Stanton is under center, his production will be inconsistent. Floyd is still a WR2 moving forward.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR9/16/2014 3:45:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald led Arizona in receiving during the team's Week 2 victory.
Insight: Fitzgerald has clearly lost a step, and with Carson Palmer still on the shelf, owners could continue to be frustrated by Fitz's production. He had six catches for 51 yards on Sunday. Fitzgerald is WR3 for now, with WR2 potential.
John Abraham, DE9/15/2014 4:14:00 PM
Description: Cardinals rush linebacker John Abraham has passed his concussion test and is expected to return to the team on Tuesday, according to Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports 910.
Insight: Abraham's status is up in the air for Week 3, but it appears he's not going to retire over this concussion.
Drew Stanton, QB9/15/2014 1:38:00 PM
Description: Cardinals backup quarterback Drew Stanton figures to see another week under center while starter Carson Palmer tries to get over his shoulder injury.
Insight: Stanton was 14-of-29 for 167 yards and no scores against the Giants. The Cardinals have the 49ers next up on the schedule, so despite having two solid receivers in Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd, we recommend staying away.
Carson Palmer, QB9/15/2014 1:34:00 PM
Description: Arizona QB Carson Palmer has no idea when he'll be able to return to the field.
Insight: "It's just one of those things you've just got to wait and hope it wakes up," he told the Arizona Republic. Drew Stanton started and won the game with the Giants, though he wasn't fantasy worthy.
Andre Ellington, RB9/14/2014 4:32:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington continues to produce despite the bad foot.
Insight: He received 16 touches and put up 101 total yards. It would have been a better day save for a touchdown vulture by Jonathan Dwyer.
Andre Ellington, RB9/14/2014 4:22:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington (foot) will continue to miss practices while dealing with the injury, but unless we hear differently we will expect him to play on Sunday.
Insight: He received 16 touches and put up 101 total yards in Week 2. It would have been a better day save for a touchdown vulture by Jonathan Dwyer.
Drew Stanton, QB9/14/2014 11:19:00 AM
Description: Cardinals backup quarterback Drew Stanton is expected to take over with Carson Palmer sidelined by a shoulder injury.
Insight: Stanton saw plenty of practice this week with Palmer limited. The result could be a move toward the running game and a fall in value for Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd.
Michael Floyd, WR9/13/2014 3:17:00 PM
Description: ESPN New York expects Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to shadow Cardinals wide receiver Michael Floyd.
Insight: That means Larry Fitzgerald will draw Walter Thurmond and Prince Amukamara covering him. It does not really change our expectations for Floyd this week, he is the No. 6 ranked WR for Week 2, but it proves that Floyd will likely have to deal with the opposition's top corner going forward.
Andre Ellington, RB9/11/2014 1:30:00 PM
Description: Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians is pleased with the way running back Andre Ellington's foot responded to Monday night's 18 touches.
Insight: "A lot less sore than he though he was going to be," Arians said according to azcardinals.com. "It's much better than we hoped." Elllington missed practice on Wednesday, but he should get limited reps by Friday. As long as Arians keeps feeding Ellington the ball, which he should, plug Ellington into your lineup.
John Abraham, DE9/10/2014 2:40:00 PM
Description: Cardinals rush linebacker John Abraham has left the team due to a concussion suffered in Monday's game, according to Adam Schefter.
Insight: Abraham's status is up in the air, both for this week and for the remainder of the season as this certainly isn't his first concussion.
Andre Ellington, RB9/9/2014 3:36:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington (foot) survived Week 1 without his foot inury getting any worse.
Insight: He's back in a walking boot as he tries to get ready for Week 2. Ellington admitted he wasn't as quick as normal. "I had some quickness going from right to left, but it was a little harder going from left to right," he said after the game. Fantasy owners who jumped on Jonathan Dwyer came up empty in Week 1.
Andre Ellington, RB9/8/2014 9:20:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington (foot) is active for the season opener.
Insight: Despite all the rumors, including one that had him out 4-6 weeks, Ellington is in the lineup. He will likely be limited in some capacity so fantasy owners should start someone else if possible.
Andre Ellington, RB9/8/2014 2:45:00 PM
Description: XTRA 910 Arizon'a Mike Jurecki reports the Cardinals plan to work out Andre Ellington (foot) "hours before kickoff".
Insight: It appears Ellington is a true game-time dicision. If you were still planning on starting Ellington, running back Jonathan Dwyer is really your only other option. Even if Ellington plays, he will likely be limited in some capacity. Start someone else if possible.
Andre Ellington, RB9/6/2014 4:20:00 PM
Description: The latest rumor out of Arizona has Cardinals running back Andre Ellington not needing surgery after being examined by multiple doctors and possibly even playing Monday night, according to beat reporter Darren Urban.
Insight: Ellington's status for Week 1 is up in the air. The problem for fantasy owners is that it's the last game of the weekend and unless you have Jonathan Dwyer as a handcuff, you won't have many options should he not play.
Andre Ellington, RB9/5/2014 11:55:00 AM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington was given an MRI after aggravating a foot issue and "could be out extended period of time," according to talk show host Mike Jurecki of Fox Sports 910 in Arizona.
Insight: Ellington's status for Week 1, appears to be up in the air. Ellington had foot issues back at Clemson too. Backup Jonathan Dwyer can't do the things Ellington can do when healthy. This will require extensive follow up as we head into Week 1.
Andre Ellington, RB9/4/2014 5:52:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington was limited in Thursday's practice with a foot issue.
Insight: It's likely a minor ailment and at this point, fantasy owners don't have to worry about Ellington's status for Week 1, but it is something to monitor. Ellington had injury issues back at Clemson. Arizona also plays on Monday night, so owners might be pressured into making a decision a day before his game.
Ryan Lindley, QB8/25/2014 3:08:00 PM
Description: Cardinals backup QB Ryan Lindley was released Monday.
Insight: The San Diego State product never proved he could play at the NFL level and playing in six games threw for a 52 percent completion rate with zero touchdowns and seven interceptions. Case closed. Drew Stanton will back up Carson Palmer.
Jay Feely, K8/25/2014 3:02:00 PM
Description: Arizona released long-time kicker Jay Feely, who went 30-for-36 last season.
Insight: The 30 field goals he made were his most since 2009, but he was replaced by a "cheaper" model that has a stronger leg for kickoffs - Chandler Catanzaro.
Brett Keisel, DE8/19/2014 2:35:00 PM
Description: Former Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel is in Arizona to take a physical for the Cardinals.
Insight: The Cardinals are looking to find a replacement for Darnell Dockett after his season-ending knee injury. Keisel has played in a 3-4 defense and at 35-years-old may have something left in the tank.
Darnell Dockett, DT8/19/2014 2:32:00 PM
Description: The Cardinals confirmed that Darnell Dockett has suffered a torn ACL in his right knee and will miss the entire 2014 season, according to Bob McManaman, azcentral sports.
Insight: Arizona's defense ranked sixth in yards allowed and seventh in points allowed last season, but top linebacker Daryl Washington is suspended for the entire 2014 season for substance abuse, safety Tyrann Mathieu is coming back from a torn ACL and now Dockett is done for the year. Be careful not to overvalue them on draft day.
Darnell Dockett, DT8/18/2014 8:58:00 PM
Description: According to foxsports.com, the Cardinals believe that Darnell Dockett suffered a torn ACL in his right knee during Monday's practice.
Insight: Arizona's defense ranked sixth in yards allowed and seventh in points allowed last season, but top linebacker Daryl Washington is suspended for the entire 2014 season for substance abuse, safety Tyrann Mathieu is coming back from a torn ACL and now Dockett could be done for the year.
Kevin Minter, LB8/18/2014 11:33:00 AM
Description: Cardinals starting inside linebacker Kevin Minter has been dealing with a pectoral injury and may miss the remainder of the preseason, according to Mike Jurecki of 910 AM in Phoenix.
Insight: The Cardinals defense was very good last season, but they lost both starting inside linebackers (Daryl Washington to suspension, Karlos Dansby to free agency) in the offseason. Whether the remaining group can play at previously high levels in questionable.
Andre Ellington, RB8/13/2014 4:03:00 PM
Description: The Arizona Republic says the the Cardinals "would like to get the ball to (Andre Ellington) 20 or so times a game, but want to limit his carries inside the tackles."
Insight: Ellington is 5-foot-9 and roughly 200 pounds, but Jamaal Charles isn't much bigger and he has held up to the pounding over the past two seasons. Ellington is ticketed for 4-6 catches and 13-15 rushes per game and he also has been getting first-team reps in the red zone. He could easily outperform his third-round ADP.
Michael Floyd, WR8/13/2014 3:42:00 PM
Description: According to Dan Pompei of Sportsonearth.com, some in Cardinals camp think Michael Floyd will be the Cardinals' No. 1 receiver this season.
Insight: Floyd quietly had 1,041 yards to lead the team last season while Larry Fitzgerald, who turns 31 on Aug. 31, had 954 yards, though Fitzgerald had 10 touchdowns to Floyd's five. Now in his third season, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound Floyd is in for a monster year.
Tyrann Mathieu, S8/7/2014 1:45:00 PM
Description: Arizona defensive back Tyrann Mathieu is hoping to begin practice in 2-3 weeks, according to an azcardinals.com report.
Insight: He's coming off an impressive rookie season that included 68 tackles and two interceptions. A likely scenario is that he starts the season on the reserve/PUP list and misses the first six games.
Stepfan Taylor, RB8/6/2014 9:35:00 PM
Description: Stepfan Taylor is listed ahead of Jonathan Dwyer as the No. 2 running back on Arizona's first depth chart of training camp.
Insight: Andre Ellington is expected to take on a larger role this season, but Taylor could receive goal-line work. Rashard Mendenhall was abysmal last season (217 carries, 3.2 ypc, one gain of 20+ yards, four fumbles), but he still scored eight times.
John Brown, WR7/28/2014 2:48:00 PM
Description: Third-round selection John Brown is getting rave reviews, according to beat reporter Josh Weinfuss.
Insight: He's a small, fast receiver that GM Steve Keim recently called "uncoverable." Barring an injury to Larry Fitzgerald or Michael Floyd we wouldn't expect any fantasy-worthy numbers from Brown in 2014, but he might be worth a play in dynasty leagues.
Andre Ellington, RB7/25/2014 7:58:00 PM
Description: Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said that Andre Ellington is ready to be the "bell cow" in Arizona's offense, according to Darren Urban of azcardinals.com.
Insight: Arizona coach Bruce Arians said in May that he expects Ellington to get 25-30 touches per game this season, which was an outrageous exaggeration. However, we may see him get 16-18, with 4-6 coming on receptions. GM Steve Keim estimated Thursday that Ellington has put on 8-10 pounds, which could take away some of his explosiveness. Ellington is going 15th among running backs at an ADP of 29.9, which is a good spot for him because he's not guaranteed to see goal-line work.
Andre Ellington, RB6/29/2014 4:09:00 PM
Description: Darren Urban from the Cardinals official website predicts Andre Ellington will get 20-22 touches per game.
Insight: Arizona coach Bruce Arians said last month that he expects Ellington to get 25-30 touches per game this season, which was an outrageous exaggeration, and it would be shocking if he averaged 20-22 touches per game as Urban is projecting. It would put the 5-foot-9 running back in the 320-350 territory, which would be close to what Marshawn Lynch, Jamaal Charles, Matt Forte and LeSean McCoy saw last season. Ellington will likely be closer to 15 touches per game than 22.
Tyrann Mathieu, S6/13/2014 9:08:00 PM
Description: Arizona cornerback Tyrann Mathieu is aiming to return on October 1st. He suffered a torn ACL and MCL late last season. SOURCE: AZCardinals.com
Insight: That would put Mathieu on track to play Week 5 against Denver. He's coming off an impressive rookie season that included 68 tackles and two interceptions.
Daryl Washington, LB5/30/2014 2:40:00 PM
Description: Cardinals linebacker Daryl Washington has been suspended for one year after violating the league's substance-abuse policy.
Insight: He had previously been suspended four games after being arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault last May.
Andre Ellington, RB5/27/2014 3:27:00 PM
Description: Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Monday that Andre Ellington is the team's No. 1 back and expects him to get 25-30 touches per game, according to Mike Jurecki of foxsports910.com.
Insight: The Cardinals keep publicly wavering on Ellington's role for 2014 -- first GM Steve Keim said that the team planned to use a multi-back offense, then Arians said the Cardinals want to build the offense around Ellington, then the coach said the team would monitor his workload and now he's projecting him to get 400-480 touches. Keep in mind LeSean McCoy led the NFL with 366 touches in 2013 and that Ellington is 5-foot-9 and 199 pounds. Look for the 25-year-old to actually get between 250-275 touches (200-220 carries, 40-60 catches).
Ryan Williams, RB5/12/2014 8:15:00 PM
Description: The Cardinals have parted ways with running back Ryan Williams. SOURCE: Darren Urban, AZCardinals.com
Insight: Williams has only played in five NFL games since Arizona drafted him 38th overall in the 2011 Draft. Wherever the 24-year-old ends up, we doubt he'll ever be a consistent fantasy contributor.
Troy Niklas, TE5/9/2014 8:39:00 PM
Description: The Cardinals have selected tight end Troy Niklas out of Notre Dame with the 52nd-overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Insight: Niklas is a converted DE/OLB who is more of a blocking tight end. He's unlikely to have much fantasy value in 2014.
Antonio Cromartie, CB3/20/2014 3:25:00 PM
Description: Former Jets cornerback Antonio Cromartie has agreed to a one-year deal with Arizona. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Cromartie (38 tackles, three interceptions for the Jets last season) will set up shop across from All-Pro cornerback Patrick Peterson. Arizona's secondary should be among the best in the league next season.
Ted Ginn Jr., WR3/13/2014 7:07:00 PM
Description: Ted Ginn signed a three-year contract with the Cardinals on Thursday.
Insight: Ginn will return kicks and replace Andre Roberts (signed with the Redskins) as Arizona's third receiver. He had 36 catches for 556 yards and five touchdowns last season, but it's wishful thinking that he'll approach those numbers with the Cardinals.
Jay Feely, K3/11/2014 8:48:00 PM
Description: Arizona was able to re-sign kicker Jay Feely to a one-year, $1.02 million contract. SOURCE: Cardinals on Twitter
Insight: Feely ranked 12th among fantasy kickers last season. The 30 field goals he made were his most since 2009. Next season will be his 14th in the NFL.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB3/9/2014 9:33:00 PM
Description: Rashard Mendenhall made his retirement official on Sunday.
Insight: Mendenhall made the accouncement in a column he wrote for the Huffington Post. At age 26, Mendenhall (4,236 rushing yards in 72 career games) says he's already accomplished everything he wanted to in the game of football. He plans to pursue a career in writing.
John Carlson, TE3/7/2014 8:18:00 PM
Description: Former Vikings and Seahawks tight end John Carlson has reached a two-year, $4.65 million agreement with the Cardinals. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL Network
Insight: That didn't take long. Carlson was released by Minnesota less than 48 hours ago. Carlson has never caught more than 55 passes in any of his five seasons in the league. We doubt that changes in Arizona.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB2/25/2014 7:11:00 PM
Description: Former Steelers and Cardinals halfback Rashard Mendenhall is considering retirement.
Insight: Mendenhall hinted at calling it quits in a blog post he wrote for the Huffington Post. This would be a disappointing end to what was once a promising career. The first-round pick from Illinois logged back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2009 and 2010 but hasn't come close to that level of production in his last three seasons (687 yards, eight TD in 2013).
Larry Fitzgerald, WR2/4/2014 5:31:00 PM
Description: Larry Fitzgerald has given the Cardinals some financial flexibility by agreeing to a restructured deal.
Insight: Fitzgerald tweeted this information on Tuesday and the news was confirmed by the Cardinals' official website. We don't know how much cap relief Fitzgerald's new deal will provide though the eight-time Pro Bowler was originally scheduled to earn $12.75 million in 2014.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR1/28/2014 8:20:00 PM
Description: The Patriots were reportedly interested in trading for Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald in 2013. SOURCE: Tom Curran, Comcast Sportsnet New England
Insight: It's unknown if New England is considering another run at Fitz though he would fill a huge need for the Pats at wide receiver. Fitzgerald would make for an excellent complement to Julian Edelman on the outside. A trio of Fitzgerald, Edelman and Rob Gronkowski could be deadly. We'll see if the Patriots make a play for Fitzgerald or if they stand pat with their current group of receivers featuring Edelman, Aaron Dobson, Kenbrell Thompkins, Austin Collie and Danny Amendola.
Carson Palmer, QB12/29/2013 8:15:00 PM
Description: Arizona QB Carson Palmer turned in a gutsy performance Sunday in what turned out to be the Cardinals' final game of the season.
Insight: He threw for 407 yards on 28-of-49 passing. It was Palmer's second 400-yard game of the season. Arizona finished the year at 10-6, one game out of the final wild card spot. Ironically, Green Bay (8-7-1) and the winner of tonight's Dallas/Philadelphia game will both be going to the postseason despite having a worse record than the Cardinals.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR12/22/2013 2:56:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (concussion) will play Sunday against the Seahawks.
Insight: Fitzgerald passed his first round of concussion tests and was able to practice this week. He has 73 receptions, 823 yards and 10 touchdowns in 14 games but he'll have to face Richard Sherman in Week 16. Sherman held him to two receptions for 17 yards when these teams met in October.
Carson Palmer, QB12/22/2013 2:53:00 PM
Description: Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer (elbow) is active for Sunday's game with Seattle.
Insight: Active or not, its not a great matchup facing this tough Seahawks defense.
Andre Ellington, RB12/22/2013 2:46:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington suffered a thigh bruise that kept him off the field in overtime last weekend, but he's active for Week 16.
Insight: Ellington is the more explosive of the two Cardinals running backs. He had 158 yards from scrimmage last week versus Tennessee.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR12/22/2013 10:06:00 AM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (concussion) is expected to play Sunday against the Seahawks, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR12/20/2013 6:02:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (concussion) is officially questionable for Sunday's game, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.
Insight: He has to pass one more test before he's cleared to play against the Seahawks. Arizona plays at 4:05 p.m. ET, but we should know if he passed before you have to set your lineup.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB12/20/2013 9:55:00 AM
Description: Arizona running back Rashard Mendenhall (finger) was a recent addition to the injury report.
Insight: Mendenhall has played well over the past month despite the shared backfield with Andre Ellington. We don't expect the finger to stop him, but the Seahawks defense is another story. He's not a great play in Week 16.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR12/19/2013 5:23:00 PM
Description: Cardinals receiver Larry Fitzgerald (concussion) practiced fully on Thursday, according to azcardinals.com. He'll need to pass one last test Friday before he's cleared to play in Week 16, but Fitzgerald is confident he'll pass.
Insight: "This is my first (concussion), uncharted territory for me," Fitzgerald said. "It’s a serious issue, but I want to be out there and play. I will do everything I can to protect myself and my brain, but this is football, a tough sport played by tough men. It’s my job."
Larry Fitzgerald, WR12/18/2013 10:45:00 AM
Description: Cardinals coach Bruce Arians expects concussed wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald to play Sunday against Seattle. SOURCE: Kent Somers, AZCentral.com
Insight: Fitzgerald suffered the injury Sunday while defending an onside kick. He's already passed most of his concussion tests and should be able to play his usual amount of snaps in Week 16. Arizona needs a win to have any hope of making the playoffs.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR12/16/2013 10:29:00 AM
Description: Arizona receiver Larry Fitzgerald suffered a possible concussion on Sunday after catching six balls for 49 yards.
Insight: Thus ends his four-game touchdown streak. Fitzgerald is questionable for Week 16 and will have to go through the league-required protocol. Facing the Seahawks in Seattle isn't a good matchup for anyone in Week 16.
Andre Ellington, RB12/16/2013 9:39:00 AM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington suffered a thigh bruise that kept him off the field in overtime, but says it isn't too serious, according to the Cardinals' website.
Insight: Ellington didn't get into the end zone, but did combine for 158 yards from scrimmage. He will continue to share time with Rashard Mendenhall, though he is the more explosive half of the duo.
Michael Floyd, WR12/14/2013 11:04:00 AM
Description: According to ESPN's John Clayton, Arizona receiver Michael Floyd isn't in danger of missing Sunday's game against Tennessee despite re-injuring his ankle in last week's win over St. Louis.
Insight: Floyd (56 catches, 886 yards, 4 TD) is closing in on his first 1,000-yard receiving season. He's posted at least 95 yards in three of his last four contests.
Carson Palmer, QB12/14/2013 11:02:00 AM
Description: Ignore the questionable label attached to Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer (elbow). He's going to start Sunday against Tennessee.
Insight: He's carried the questionable label into the last several games and played in all of them. According to ESPN's John Clayton, this week shouldn't be any different. Palmer's 85.6 quarterback rating this season is his highest since 2007.
Michael Floyd, WR12/11/2013 3:10:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Michael Floyd (ankle) missed Wednesday's practice.
Insight: Floyd aggravated his ankle injury in Week 14 against the Rams and had just 26 yards on two catches after reeling in 18 balls for 396 yards and two touchdowns the previous three games. The Titans were torched by Peyton Manning and Denver's receivers in Week 14, but their cornerbacks have been very good this season.
Tyrann Mathieu, S12/9/2013 12:09:00 PM
Description: Cardinals cornerback Tyrann Mathieu tore both his ACL and LCL Sunday against the Rams. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL Network
Insight: He'll miss the remainder of the 2013 campaign. The rookie out of LSU will finish the year with 68 tackles, two interceptions, one sack and one forced fumble in 13 regular season contests.
Andre Ellington, RB12/8/2013 3:25:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington (knee) is active for Sunday's game with St. Louis.
Insight: Ellington will continue to share time with Rashard Mendenhall, though he is the more explosive half of the duo.
Carson Palmer, QB12/8/2013 2:56:00 PM
Description: Carson Palmer will get the start at QB Sunday against the Rams.
Insight: Palmer had been questionable with an elbow injury. He threw for 327 yards and two touchdowns against St. Louis in the season opener.
Carson Palmer, QB12/7/2013 3:51:00 PM
Description: According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer (elbow) took all of Arizona's snaps at Saturday's walkthrough and is expected to start Sunday against the Rams.
Insight: Palmer suffered an elbow injury in Week 13 against the Eagles and has been limited in practice. While he has thrown for multiple touchdowns in five straight games and 300-plus yards in three, Palmer should not be started as a QB1 against a Rams team that is tied for fifth in the NFL with 37 sacks, not when he's dealing with a sore elbow.
Carson Palmer, QB12/6/2013 2:52:00 PM
Description: Arizona coach Bruce Arians "is confident" quarterback Carson Palmer will start Sunday despite calling him a game-time decision. Palmer suffered an elbow injury on a strip sack Sunday against the Eagles.
Insight: Palmer has been limited during practice all this week. Drew Stanton is the backup.
Carson Palmer, QB12/5/2013 6:00:00 PM
Description: Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer suffered an elbow injury on a strip sack Sunday against the Eagles. He was limited in Thursday's practice, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.
Insight: Palmer has thrown multiple touchdowns in each of the last five games and hit the 300-yard bonus in three straight. However, with the elbow injury still bothering him he shouldn't be trusted as a QB1 in Week 14.
Michael Floyd, WR12/5/2013 2:38:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Michael Floyd was back at practice Thursday despite nagging shoulder and ankle pain that kept him off the field yesterday.
Insight: Floyd finished with 99 yards and a touchdown on five catches last week and has been a huge asset over the past three games. He's a solid WR2 versus St. Louis.
Andre Ellington, RB12/5/2013 2:35:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington (knee) returned to limited practice Thursday, according to beat reporter Darren Urban
Insight: Ellington should be considered questionable for Week 14 against the Rams until he at least gets in one full practice.
Andre Ellington, RB12/1/2013 6:38:00 PM
Description: Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said running back Andre Ellington (knee) was never close to playing Sunday, according to beat writer Darren Urban.
Insight: That refutes pre-game reports that suggested Ellington would play if he could get through warmups without a setback. Ellington should be considered highly questionable for Week 14 against the Rams.
Michael Floyd, WRHot12/1/2013 5:39:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Michael Floyd came within one yard of his third straight 100-yard game in Week 13 at Philadelphia.
Insight: Floyd finished with 99 yards and a touchdown on five catches, which fantasy owners will happily take. The second-year wideout has been targeted 28 times over the past three games after seeing 6.3 targets per game the first nine games. He now has 54 catches for 860 yards and four scores.
Andre Ellington, RB12/1/2013 12:09:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Andre Ellington (knee) will not play Sunday against the Eagles.
Insight: Ellington hurt his knee during Thursday's practice. He was reportedly going to play if he could avoid a setback during warmups, but he won't be active. Rashard Mendenhall should get most of the carries and is a decent flex option.
Andre Ellington, RB12/1/2013 10:41:00 AM
Description: According to Albert Breer of NFL.com, Cardinals running back Andre Ellington (knee) will play Sunday against the Eagles if he can avoid a setback during warmups.
Insight: Ellington hurt his knee during Thursday's practice, which could limit his explosiveness. As long as Rashard Mendenhall is healthy, Ellington's touches will be kept around 10-12 per game.
Andre Ellington, RB11/29/2013 3:28:00 PM
Description: Arizona running back Andre Ellington injured his knee Thursday and wasn't able to practice on Friday. SOURCE: Darren Urban, AZCardinals.com
Insight: Ellington and Rashard Mendenhall have become a solid shared backfield, but the loss of Ellington would take away most of the explosiveness. Ellington will be a game-time decision heading into Sunday's game against Philadelphia.
Michael Floyd, WR11/17/2013 5:08:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Michael Floyd (sprained right shoulder) caught a 91-yard touchdown pass Sunday against Jacksonville and finished with six catches for 193 yards.
Insight: Floyd wasn't affected at all by his shoulder injury. Of course, it helped that he was playing Jacksonville. Arizona's No. 2 wideout entered Week 11 with zero 100-yard games and two touchdowns this season.
Carson Palmer, QB11/17/2013 5:05:00 PM
Description: Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer toasted Jacksonville for 419 yards and two touchdowns Sunday afternoon.
Insight: For the first time all season, Palmer didn't turn the football over. He's not a trusted fantasy option despite this big performance.
Michael Floyd, WR11/17/2013 12:32:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Michael Floyd (sprained right shoulder) is active Sunday against Jacksonville.
Insight: Floyd has had a few decent weeks but has not sustained fantasy value as Arizona's No. 2 receiver. He's on pace for 64 catches, 825 yards and three touchdowns.
Michael Floyd, WR11/15/2013 10:09:00 AM
Description: Cardinals wideout Michael Floyd (sprained right shoulder) said he expects to play Sunday.
Insight: Floyd hasn't proven to be much of a fantasy asset yet, but he is the team's second most targeted receiver this season (57 targets).
Michael Floyd, WR11/11/2013 2:35:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Michael Floyd suffered a sprained right shoulder, but Coach Bruce Arians is calling him day-to-day
Insight: if Floyd can't go, Andre Roberts would be the guy opposite Larry Fitzgerald. Roberts had a team-high five catches for 72 yards and a touchdown.
Andre Ellington, RB11/8/2013 4:53:00 PM
Description: Arizona coach Bruce Arians said he would like to get rookie running back Andre Ellington around 20 touches a game going forward, according to azcardinals.com.
Insight: The increase will come on receptions rather than carries. Ellington is averaging 8.1 touches per game but has produced 66.4 yards from scrimmage per game and three touchdowns. He's coming off a 15-carry, 154-yard, one-touchdown performance in Week 8, but that came with Rashard Mendenhall out of the lineup. Mendenhall will return in Week 10 against Houston, and we see Ellington getting around 15 touches. His explosiveness makes him a solid flex option.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB11/8/2013 4:47:00 PM
Description: Arizona coach Bruce Arians confirmed that Rashard Mendenhall (toe) will start Sunday against Houston, according to Darren Urban of azcardinals.com.
Insight: Mendenhall, who has 281 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 92 carries this season, sat out Week 8 against Atlanta and has had three full weeks to rest his turf toe injury due to Arizona's Week 9 bye. He'll split carries with Andre Ellington, who had 154 rushing yards and a touchdown against the Falcons. The rookie is the better flex option in Week 10.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB11/7/2013 7:10:00 PM
Description: Arizona RB Rashard Mendenhall (toe) is on track to return to action Sunday against the Houston Texans, according to azcardinals.com.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB11/6/2013 6:23:00 PM
Description: Arizona RB Rashard Mendenhall (toe) had a limited practice session Wednesday.
Insight: Mendenhall missed Week 8 with a toe injury but has had plenty of time to heal with the Cardinals going on a bye in Week 9. He's expected to play and split touches with the explosive Andre Ellington. Ellington is a better flex option than Mendenhall.
Andre Ellington, RB10/28/2013 6:07:00 PM
Description: Arizona coach Bruce Arians said Monday that running back Andre Ellington needs to improve his pass blocking "to stay out there." SOURCE: azcardinals.com
Insight: With Rashard Mendenhall (toe) out in Week 8, Ellington saw 15 carries and rushed for 154 yards and a touchdown, but Arians isn't ready to hand over the starting job to the 5-foot-9, 199-pounder. He said he was "sure" Mendenhall would "resume his role" when healthy.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB10/28/2013 5:56:00 PM
Description: Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said he's "sure" running back Rashard Mendenhall (toe) will "resume his role" when he is healthy. SOURCE: Darren Urban, azcardinals.com
Insight: Andre Ellington had 154 rushing yards on 15 carries Sunday, with most of his yardage coming on an 80-yard touchdown, but apparently it wasn't enough for him to earn a larger role. It's also possible Arians was just using coachspeak. Mendenhall has rushed for just 281 yards on 92 carries (3.1 ypc) this season, while Ellington has 333 rushing yards on 43 carries (7.7 ypc) and 198 receiving yards on 22 receptions.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR10/27/2013 1:49:00 PM
Description: Arizona receiver Larry Fitzgerald isn't likely to be dealt before the trade deadline but ESPN's Adam Schefter wouldn't be surprised if he's traded in the offseason.
Insight: Simply put, Fitzgerald is costing the Cardinals too much money. They just can't afford to pay him the $18 million he's scheduled to earn in 2014. Once considered a fantasy superhero, Fitzgerald (32 receptions, 422 yards, 4 TD) has been plagued by injury and inconsistency the last two seasons.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB10/27/2013 11:15:00 AM
Description: Arizona halfback Rashard Mendenhall won't be available for Week 8 against the Falcons. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: He's out with a toe injury. Look for rookie Andre Ellington to get the lion's share of the carries on Sunday with Stepfan Taylor and Alfonso Smith competing for the backup role.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB10/25/2013 3:59:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall missed Friday's practice due to a toe injury and has been downgraded to doubtful.
Insight: If Mendenhall isn't ready this could be the perfect opportunity for up-and-coming Andre Ellington to shine. Ellington will still share the load with some combination of Alfonso Smith, Ryan Williams and Stepfan Taylor.
Andre Ellington, RB10/25/2013 2:38:00 PM
Description: Arizona running back Andre Ellington could see his workload increase dramatically if Rashard Mendenhall isn't ready for the Week 8 whistle.
Insight: While Ellington isn't thought of as an every-down back, he could see a much bigger piece of the pie if he's sharing the workload with Alfonso Smith and Ryan Williams. Before a bad outing against Seattle, Ellington had posted at least 50 yards from scrimmage in five consecutive games.
Rashard Mendenhall, RB10/25/2013 2:34:00 PM
Description: Cardinals running back Rashard Mendenhall missed Friday's practice due to a toe injury.
Insight: If Mendenhall isn't ready this could be the perfect opportunity for up-and-coming Andre Ellington to shine.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR10/23/2013 7:47:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) wasn't expected to practice Wednesday but he ended up getting in a full session.
Insight: Arizona coach Bruce Arians was considering giving Fitzgerald the day off. That the receiver was able to practice in full is further proof that he is getting close to 100 percent. Arians said the star receiver was "80 percent" healthy in Thursday's game against the Seahawks but that the extra time off has "really helped" him recover. He only had two catches for 17 yards on five targets Thursday against Seattle's shutdown secondary, but he has a much better matchup in Week 8 against the Falcons and should have one of his best games of the season.
Larry Fitzgerald, WR10/22/2013 9:04:00 PM
Description: Cardinals wideout Larry Fitzgerald (hamstring) isn't expected to practice Wednesday, according to Alex Marvez of FOXSports1.
Insight: Arizona coach Bruce Arians is giving Fitzgerald the day off.
