Description: Padres center fielder Cameron Maybin has been suspended for 25 games for amphetamines, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
Insight: Maybin has tested positive for amphetamines twice. A first positive test results in additional follow-up testing but no suspension. "I have been undergoing treatment for several years for a medical condition, attention deficit disorder (ADD), for which I previously had a therapeutic use exemption (TUE),'' Maybin said in a prepared statement on Wednesday. "Unfortunately, in my attempts to switch back to a medicine that had been previously OK'd, I neglected to follow all the rules and as a result I tested positive.
Description: Since he started off May 10-for-62 (.161) with 22 Ks, Angels outfielder Mike Trout has batted .358 with 19 doubles, one triple, 15 home runs, 46 RBI, 39 runs and five steals in his last 49 games.
Insight: Trout went 2-for-4 with a solo homer, a walk and three runs Sunday against the Mariners. He's hitting .313 with 23 home runs, 74 RBI and an AL-leading 1.012 OPS.
Description: Los Angeles center fielder Mike Trout is a career .386 hitter with a 1.067 OPS against Felix Hernandez.
Insight: King Felix may be the best pitcher in baseball, certainly in the top-five, but Trout doesn't seem to have a problem with him. Trout leads the league in OPS (1.008) and total bases (214) to go along with his .313 batting average, 22 HR and 73 RBI.
Description: Rockies outfielder Drew Stubbs has homered in three of the past six games and has a favorable matchup Saturday night.
Insight: Stubbs has enjoyed his first season in the light Colorado air, batting .294 with 10 HR and a career-high .830 OPS. He's 9-for-25 (.360) with a home run against Pittsburgh starter Charlie Morton.
Description: Yankees center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and a steal Friday against the Reds.
Insight: Ellsbury hit .346 in his first 28 games and he's batted .311 over his last 43, but a 10-for-75 (.133) stretch from May 4-26 has his average at .284 for the season. He has seven home runs, 44 RBI, 45 runs and 25 steals, so he's been a good fantasy option.
Description: Houston center fielder Dexter Fowler (intercostal) is not ready to return from the DL, according to Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle.
Insight: Despite not having the comforts of Coors Field (career .880 OPS there) to fall back on anymore, Fowler has put up similar numbers to last season. Unfortunately, this will be the sixth straight season in which he hasn't reached the 150-game mark.
Description: Pittsburgh center fielder Andrew McCutchen is the hottest hitter in baseball.
Insight: McCutchen is batting .408 with a 1.363 OPS over the past dozen games, including
12 extra base hits (five homers), 13 RBI and 13 runs scored. It's no wonder he's at the top of the NL All-Star lineup - I'd want him to get as many at-bats as possible too.
Description: Pittsburgh center fielder Andrew McCutchen is the only Pirates player with respectable numbers against Reds starter Johnny Cueto.
Insight: McCutchen homered twice Saturday night and has hit .396 with 11 extra-base hits this month. He's gone 13-for-49 (.265) with four doubles, four homers and six walks against Cueto while Pedro Alvarez, Starling Marte, Russell Martin, Neil Walker, Ike Davis and Travis Snider are a combined 16-for-118 (.136) against the right-hander.
Description: Colorado center fielder Charlie Blackmon posted a five-hit night and stole a base, but it wasn't enough to help the Rockies beat the Twins.
Insight: Blackmon started out hitting .352 with nine homers, 29 RBI, 34 runs, eight steals and a .998 OPS in his first 38 games, but he predictably tailed off. He appears to have found his stroke again, batting .316 this week. It doesn't hurt that Carlos Gonzalez is back in the lineup and batting second behind Blackmon.
Description: Tampa Bay center fielder Desmond Jennings left Friday's game after fouling a ball off his left knee and as expected is not in Saturday's starting lineup.
Insight: Jennings' X-rays were negative so he should be considered day-to-day. At most he should miss the final two games before the All-Star break. He's batting .246 with eight homers, 24 RBI, 48 runs and 12 steals.
Description: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton went 3-for-5 with one RBI Friday against Pittsburgh.
Insight: Hamilton exited Wednesday's game with hamstring tightness, but he showed no ill effects of the injury Friday. The center fielder led off the game by bunting down the first base line and he avoided a tag from Gaby Sanchez by stopping on a dime, jumping back and diving for first base.
Description: Pittsburgh center fielder Andrew McCutchen went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and a solo homer Friday at Cincinnati.
Insight: McCutchen has batted .372 with eight extra-base hits (3 HR) and 11 RBI in 43 at-bats this month after hitting .343 with 20 extra-base hits in June. He has nine more extra-base hits and five more home runs than he had before the All-Star break last season.
Description: Cincinnati center fielder Billy Hamilton pinch hit Thursday night and has made his way back into the starting lineup for Friday's series opener with Pittsburgh.
Insight: Hamilton has been one of the best players in fantasy baseball over the past month and with both Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips sidelined by injury he'll be needed to help carry the Reds offense.
