College Park, MD (Sports Network) - Quarterback C.J. Brown was a dual threat for Maryland, throwing for 281 yards and rushing for 105, as he led the Terrapins over the FIU Panthers, 43-10, at Byrd Stadium.

Brown completed an efficient 20-of-23 passes with three touchdowns, while also carrying in two scores on the ground for the Terps (1-0).

Deon Long was the leading receiver on the day, grabbing nine passes for 110 yards and a touchdown. Stefon Diggs led the team in all-purpose yards with 194, finishing with five receptions for 98 yards and a score.

In head coach Ron Turner's debut with FIU (0-1), running back Lamarq Caldwell ran for 79 yards on 21 carries and scored the only touchdown for the Panthers. The Panthers threw the ball just 22 times, with quarterbacks Jake Medlock and E.J. Hilliard combining for only 10 completions and 80 yards, while being sacked five times.

The Terrapins put together a seven-play, 50-yard drive early in the first quarter, culminating with a 20-yard field goal by Brad Craddock. A successful 25-yard field goal by Craddock less than two minutes later made the score 6-0.

Panthers kicker Sergio Sroka fired back with a field goal of his own, delivering on a 32-yard kick midway through the opening frame to put FIU on the board.

On the ensuing possession, Brown ran for a 29-yard touchdown and then opened the second quarter with a 25-yard TD pass to Long.

The Panthers responded with a nine-play, 25-yard drive leading to a one-yard rushing touchdown by Caldwell to make the score 20-10.

From that point on the game belonged to Maryland, the home team ripping off 23 unanswered points.

The Terps began the run with a 17-yard TD pass between Brown and Kenneth Goins, although the PAT failed. Brown then hooked up with Diggs for a 66-yard TD strike, followed by an 11-yard scoring run by Brown to give Maryland a commanding 40-10 advantage at the break.

Following a scoreless third quarter, the Terrapins closed out the meeting with a 23-yard Craddock field goal early in the fourth.

FIU, which averaged 383.8 ypg of total offense last season, was limited to a mere 171 yards and converted just 4-of-17 on third down on the afternoon.

With the victory, the Terps snapped a six-game slide, tied for the seventh- longest losing streak in the nation entering the 2013 season.
