Argos reward Ray with contract extension
Mississauga, ON (Sports Network) - The Toronto Argonauts on Friday provided Grey Cup-winning quarterback Ricky Ray with a contract extension.
The new pact will keep Ray in the fold through 2015.
"We have worked hard to establish a culture of winning within our football team and it all begins with top caliber players like Ricky Ray," said Argos general manager Jim Barker. "Securing him as an Argonaut for the long-term ensures us stability at a key position and makes a clear statement to our fans and our city that we are serious about fielding a competitive club year in and year out. This is a very exciting announcement for the future of our franchise."
Ray was a force under center for the Double Blue in 2012, setting a new team record for completion percentage at 68.6, while passing for 4,059 yards and 20 touchdowns over 14 games. He helped the Argos take the championship by adding 869 yards and five TDs in the postseason.
"I am very excited for the opportunity to be in Toronto for the years ahead and to build off of the success we had in 2012," stated Ray. "I enjoy playing in Toronto in front of our fans, and I look forward to working with my teammates and coaches with the goal of winning another Grey Cup."
Ray was acquired from Edmonton in December 2011, having won two previous Grey Cups (2003, '05) with the Eskimos. Over an 11-year CFL career, the 33-year-old California native has thrown for 44,588 yards and 230 scores.
