NBA Game Summary - Portland at Memphis
(Wednesday, March 6th)
Final Score: Memphis 91, Portland 85
Memphis, TN (Sports Network) - Marc Gasol scored 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead the Memphis Grizzlies to a 91-85 win over the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday.
Mike Conley added 20 points and six assists and Jerryd Bayless had 13 points off the bench for the Grizzlies, who have won 10 of their last 11 games.
Damian Lillard scored 20 points and J.J. Hickson had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Blazers, who had won three of their last four entering the contest.
LaMarcus Aldridge scored 10 points and pulled down 10 boards in the setback.
"It is up hill, but we are still there, even with that loss," Portland coach Terry Stotts said. "We just have to roll some wins together. That will take care of itself, but we have to go into San Antonio and get a win there."
Eric Maynor's triple 25 seconds into the fourth quarter gave Portland a 70-65 lead, but Bayless led a 9-3 Memphis surge to put the hosts up 74-73.
Maynor buried another trey near the midway point of the final frame to give Portland an 82-76 advantage, but the Grizzles would take over from there.
Bayless buried a 3-pointer with 5:42 left to open up a 9-0 run that put Memphis up 85-82 with just under two minutes to go.
Lillard's layup with 17 seconds left made it a two points game, 87-85, but the Grizzlies scored the final four points of the contest to lock up the win.
Portland held Memphis to just 30.8 percent (8-for-26) shooting in the first to take a 26-18 lead after 12 minutes.
The Grizzlies got within six points early in the second quarter, but the Blazers were able to take a 50-38 lead into the break.
Portland's lead swelled to 17 points following a pair of Aldridge free throws near the midway point of the third frame, but Memphis closed the quarter on a 19-4 run to make it a 67-65 game entering the final stanza.
"(Not every team is) going to lose leads like that, but that just shows the character of our team. We are grinders. We all play together and play hard for 48 minutes," Allen said. "We come back and rally and get the win, but we can't keep doing that."
The Grizzlies beat the Blazers for just the third time in nine games ... Memphis was without All-Star forward Zach Randolph, who sprained his ankle in Friday's loss to the Heat ... Nicolas Batum scored 10 points and Maynor added 12 off the bench for the Blazers.
