Cleveland outscored the Warriors in the middle periods by a 68-39 margin to take control heading into the fourth quarter.

"I thought we did a nice job making them work, allowing 41 points in the second half," said Cavs coach Mike Brown. "Down the stretch, I thought Dion was good defensively (and) Kyrie was good defensively. There were a lot of individual performances that were fun to watch."

Stephen Curry posted a game-high 27 points on his 26th birthday, Draymond Green netted 18 off the bench, and David Lee added 16 in the setback, Golden State's second straight on the heels of a five-game winning streak.

Klay Thompson missed the first game of his career on Friday due to the death of his grandfather, snapping a string of 214 straight games in the Golden State lineup.

"Just a bad loss for us," said Warriors coach Mark Jackson. "We have to do a better job when we have teams on the ropes. Collectively, we didn't do the job."

Lee scored nine points during a 20-4 run to open the game and Andre Iguodala capped it with two 3-pointers midway through the first quarter. The Warriors led 32-16 after one and Cleveland proceeded to turn up the intensity.

Golden State pushed its lead to 18 early in the second when the Cavs answered with 23-2 surge to take a 41-38 lead. Waiters and Matthew Dellavedova each hit two 3s during the run to help the visitors back into the game.

Cleveland shot 13-of-24 in the second quarter, but trailed 53-52 at the break.

The Cavs led 71-68 with just over three minutes left in the third when they ended the stanza on a 14-3 run to bring an 84-71 lead into the fourth.
