Description: Joakim Soria came into Tuesday's game against the White Sox in the seventh inning and allowed four runs on six hits (2 HR).
Insight: The Tigers opted to keep Joe Nathan in the closer role even though Soria has much better numbers. Soria's ERA jumped from 2.67 to 3.71 Tuesday.

Hot7/23/2014 10:27:00 PM
Description: The Tigers have agreed to trade closer Joakim Soria to the Detroit Tigers for pitching prospects Jake Thompson and Corey Knebel, according to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports.
Insight: Tigers closer Joe Nathan has a 5.89 ERA, a 1.53 WHIP and five blown saves this season. It's unclear if Soria will take the closer job from him, but that would make sense. Soria has a 2.70 ERA, a 0.87 WHIP and a 42/4 K/BB in 33 1/3 innings. Thompson and Knebel are both top-five prospects in Detroit's system, so this would be a steep price to give up if the Tigers plan to use Soria in the eighth inning.

Hot5/14/2014 6:13:00 PM
Description: Rangers closer Joakim Soria has a 2.57 ERA, a 0.57 WHIP, a 19/2 K/BB and seven saves in 14 innings this season.
Insight: Soria has thrown nine straight scoreless innings and was perfect for the first eight of them.

3/22/2014 5:22:00 PM
Description: The Rangers named Joakim Soria the team's closer on Saturday, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Soria beat out Neftali Feliz, who has struggled with his mechanics while working his way back from Tommy John surgery. Soria had a 2.40 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP and 160 saves from 2007-11 with the Royals before he needed Tommy John surgery and missed all of 2012. He could end up being a top-10 closer in 2014.

7/7/2013 12:25:00 PM
Description: The Rangers activated relief pitcher Joakim Soria from the disabled list on Sunday.
Insight: Soria missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery and has sat out most of this season with a strained pectoral muscle. The former Royal will serve as the setup man for closer Joe Nathan.

4/22/2013 8:16:00 PM
Description: Texas reliever Joakim Soria has been diagnosed with a strained pectoral muscle and will be shut down for the next 2-to-3 weeks. SOURCE: Jeff Wilson, Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Insight: Soria, who is still recovering from Tommy John surgery, isn't expected to be back in the major leagues until July. Joe Nathan is the closer in Texas so Soria won't be getting any ninth inning opportunities this season.

2/15/2013 10:50:00 AM
Description: The Fort Worth Star-Telegram is reporting that Rangers reliever Joakim Soria is ahead of schedule on his return from Tommy John surgery.
Insight: Soria will not be in his usual closer role even when he is ready to pitch sometime in May, so fantasy owners should not expect much from him this season unless Texas closer Joe Nathan is injured.

1/10/2013 4:21:00 PM
Description: ESPN Dallas reports Rangers reliever Joakim Soria is hoping to return in late May or early June. Soria sat out the entire 2012 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
Insight: Soria has put together a fine career (160 career saves, 2.40 ERA) but we're not expecting him to have much fantasy relevance in 2013.

12/3/2012 5:58:00 PM
Description: The Texas Rangers have agreed to a two-year contract with former Royals closer Joakim Soria, pending a physical. SOURCE: Ken Rosenthal, Fox Sports
Insight: The Royals declined Soria's team option for next season after the right-hander missed the entire 2012 campaign due to Tommy John surgery. He'll move into a setup role behind Joe Nathan.

11/10/2012 10:39:00 AM
Description: Free agent relief pitcher Joakim Soria is drawing interest from Boston, Kansas City, New York (AL) and Texas according to Jon Paul Morosi from Fox Sports.
Insight: The Royals declined Soria's team option for next season after the righthander missed the entire 2012 campaign due to Tommy John surgery. Soria is unlikely to be the closer for any of these teams, so his fantasy value for next season appears to be pretty limited.

10/31/2012 7:23:00 PM
Description: Kansas City declined closer Joakim Soria's team option for next season.
Insight: Soria already has two 40-save seasons on his resume but he is also coming off of Tommy John surgery and may not be ready for the start of the year. If Soria is healthy and can lock down a closer's job, he could be a solid fantasy contributor in 2013.

10/27/2012 8:54:00 PM
Description: The Kansas City Star reports that the Royals have been in discussions with closer Joakim Soria about a new contract.
Insight: Soria will become a free agent if the Royals decline his $8 million option for next season. He missed the entire 2012 campaign while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

4/4/2012 10:59:00 AM
Description: Joakim Soria underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday in California. SOURCE: Kansas City Star
Insight: This is Soria's second TJ surgery. Manager Ned Yost has not named his closer, but the choices are between Jonathan Broxton and Greg Holland.

3/23/2012 2:15:00 PM
Description: Joakim Soria has apparently opted for Tommy John surgery. SOURCE: Bob Dutton beat writer Kansas City Star
Insight: Better pick up Jonathan Broxton or Greg Holland. Broxton should have the first shot at the closer role based on his previous experience.

3/22/2012 9:02:00 PM
Description: Joakim Soria is seriously considering Tommy John surgery after being diagnosed with damage in the ulnar collateral ligament of his right elbow.
Insight: Better pick up Jonathan Broxton or Greg Holland. Tommy John surgery or not, we won't be seeing Soria in the Royals bullpen for a while.

3/20/2012 1:40:00 PM
Description: Joakim Soria's elbow injury appears to be a serious problem. He was diagnosed with damage in his ulnar collateral ligament which frequently leads to Tommy John surgery.
Insight: This doesn't look good. Soria will see Dr. Lewis Yocum in Los Angeles and then we will know more. If it is indeed bad news, Greg Holland or veteran Jonathan Broxton could be called on as the Royals closer.

3/19/2012 10:06:00 AM
Description: Joakim Soria left Sunday's spring training game in the fifth inning with an apparent elbow injury.
Insight: This doesn't look good. Soria was in obvious pain, throwing pitches all over the place and eventually signalling for manager Ned Yost to take him out of the game. Soria has looked dreadful this spring, registering an 18.90 ERA in three games. We're not sure exactly how serious this is but it might be smart to pick up Soria's backup, Jonathan Broxton, if he is avaliable.

6/13/2011 11:15:00 AM
Description: Just as quickly as the Royals removed Joakim Soria from the closer's role, they put him right back into it.
Insight: He has recorded 7 straight scoreless innings through Saturday's games, and should slowly start to inch his way back up the rankings as he continues to pitch better. His season ERA is 4.97 but has dropped from 6.55 on May 30. He's recorded 9 saves on the season (with five blown saves) but appears to be back on track.

6/7/2011 7:43:00 AM
Description: Royals RP Joakim Soria picked up the win yesterday as KC defeated the Blue Jays in extra innings, tossing two shutout innings.
Insight: The Royals brought Aaron Crow into the game in the 8th inning, which could indicate that Soria is back as the team's 9th inning guy.

5/31/2011 11:11:00 AM
Description: Royals manager Ned Yost said Monday that Joakim Soria would be replaced, likely by Aaron Crow, after the two-time All-Star blew his fifth save of the season in a 10-8 loss to the Angels. READ MORE: ESPN.com
Insight: It sounds like this is just a temporary move to allow Soria to clear his head. Crow is the closer of the future in KC and, if he pitches well, could lead to the Royals exploring trade options for Soria.
