Alouettes name Weightman president and CEO
Montreal, QC (SportsNetwork.com) - The Montreal Alouettes named Mark Weightman the club's president and chief executive officer on Tuesday.
"This selection from inside pleases me to recognize someone who has contributed so much to the success of our franchise, rising from an intern to the CEO," said Als owner Bob Wetenhall about his new hire. "In recent years he has worked closely with me to achieve the consistent goals of my family with the Alouettes, institutionalizing the team in Montreal, truly being of real service in our community, and winning on the field. We are delighted to have found an individual to run the franchise with his knowledge, quality and dedication to the community."
Weightman has been involved with the franchise since it was known as the Baltimore Stallions back in 1995. He remained with the team as it moved to Montreal the following year, was named vice president of operations and events in 2002, and was elevated to his previous position of chief operating officer last year.
"I feel extremely proud and fortunate to have been named President and C.E.O. of this organisation, and would like to thank Bob Wetenhall and his family for this opportunity, and for their confidence in me," Weightman added. "I intend to lead our organisation into the next chapter of its evolution by building on an already very strong foundation, which is based on fundamental principles such as excellence on the field, community engagement, strong partnerships, an exciting game experience, proximity and accessibilty to our fans, sound management, and especially a team of passionate and driven employees."
Montreal, which had won back-to-back Grey Cups in 2009 and 2010, slid to an 8-10 record this past season and lost in the opening round of the playoffs to Hamilton.
