Final Score: Minnesota 2, Nashville 0
St. Paul, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - Josh Harding made 16 saves for his first shutout of the season and the Minnesota Wild took a 2-0 win over the Nashville Predators on Tuesday.
Justin Fontaine scored the game-winner in the second period and Jason Pominville added an empty-netter in the final minute for the Wild, who snapped a three-game losing streak.
Pekka Rinne played a good game as he stopped 27-of-28 shots, but the Predators had a two-game winning streak stopped.
The first 40 minutes nearly passed without a goal, but the Wild scored with 1:07 left in the second period.
Zach Parise brought the puck into the Nashville end down the right wing and fired a pass over to the left point for Clayton Stoner, who threw a shot on net that was stopped, but Fontaine was there to put home the rebound.
Minnesota had to kill off a Matt Cooke penalty in the third period and Harding finished the frame with seven saves.
"We can't feel too good about (the win). We have to build off this," Minnesota Wild head coach Mike Yeo said.
Pominville put the puck into the empty net with 25 seconds to play to seal the win.
Rinne was busy in the first period as he had to make 13 saves, while Harding stopped three shots.
"We didn't come out with that spark and that jump that we have had lately," Nashville center Matt Cullen said. "For us to be successful we have to have that."
