Description: Chargers tight end Antonio Gates will likely spend much of the day helping out his offensive line which will be missing three starters.
Insight: Gates may get to go out for passes a few times, but he's not likely to see his normal workload. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

11/1/2012 11:27:00 PM
Description: Chargers tight end Antonio Gates was rendered ineffective Sunday versus the Browns but he came out and caught a touchdown as part of a three-catch, 43-yard game Thursday against the Chiefs.
Insight: All three of Gates' touchdowns this season have come in the last three games.

10/15/2012 11:49:00 PM
Description: Chargers tight end Antonio Gates had his best game of the season Monday night against the Broncos, catching six balls for 81 yards and two touchdowns.
Insight: Gates grabbed both of Philip Rivers touchdown passes in the first half but couldn't do much in the second half as San Diego blew a 24-0 lead and lost to Denver, 35-24.

9/23/2012 3:42:00 PM
Description: Chargers tight end Antonio Gates is active for Sunday's matchup against the Falcons.
Insight: Gates reeled in four catches for 43 yards in Week 1 before a rib injury sidelined him for Week 2's win against Tennessee. Dante Rosario's fantasy value should take a big hit now that Gates is healthy again.

9/20/2012 5:49:00 PM
Description: San Diego tight end Antonio Gates (ribs) practiced Thursday for the second straight day, according to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune.
Insight: Gates was a surprise inactive late Sunday afternoon, leaving many fantasy owners without another tight end option, so it's difficult to trust his availability for Week 3. Gates owners should add Dante Rosario (3 TDs in Week 2) so they at least have someone to play if Gates is ruled out again prior to San Diego's 4:15 p.m. ET tilt with Atlanta.

9/16/2012 3:03:00 PM
Description: San Diego tight end Antonio Gates is inactive for Sunday's game against Tennessee.
Insight: This one is a shocker. Gates was listed as questionable with a rib injury but we thought he'd be able to tough this one out. Get him out of your starting lineup ASAP.

9/13/2012 6:05:00 PM
Description: According to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Chargers tight end Antonio Gates (ribs) did not practice Thursday.
Insight: Gates was expected to return Thursday after missing Wednesday's practice, so this clouds his availability for Week 2.

9/12/2012 6:28:00 PM
Description: According to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Chargers tight end Antonio Gates (ribs) did not practice Wednesday.
Insight: Gates caught four passes for 43 yards in the team's opener Monday night, but he injured his ribs during the game. That's disappointing news to those who were expecting an injury-free season from the oft-injured tight end. Gates should be fine Sunday but we'd prefer him not to have to play with any limitations.

6/22/2012 11:53:00 AM
Description: According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Chargers head coach Norv Turner said Antonio Gates had his best minicamp since the coach arrived in 2007.
Insight: With Gates, its all about health, particularly his multiple foot problems. With Rob Gronkowski and Jimmy Graham getting all the attention, you might be able to steal Gates a little later than in past seasons.

5/17/2012 7:08:00 PM
Description: According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, Chargers head coach Norv Turner said Antonio Gates is back to where the team wants him to be physically. Gates suffered from plantar fasciitis last season and missed three games.
Insight: For several years, there was no change at the top of the tight end position -- it was Gates, Jason Witten, Tony Gonzalez and Dallas Clark, in some order. Last season, a new wave of athletic tight ends took over, as Jimmy Graham and Rob Gronkowski put up prolific numbers. Because of that, owners may be able to snag Gates later in drafts and get elite value in return if the Chargers TE is fully healthy.

5/2/2012 12:53:00 PM
Description: Chargers tight end Antonio Gates told the San Diego Union Tribune that he's "almost 100-percent."
Insight: Gates has been slowed the past few years by multiple foot injuries and it shows in his numbers. A return to form would mean around 75 receptions for 972 yards and 9.5 scores versus the 57 catches for 780 yards and 8.5 scores he's averaged over the past two seasons.

Description: Antonio Gates (foot) has participated in a full week of practice this week for the first time since Week 6 of 2010. Source: Michael Ghelken
Insight: He hasn't been as quick as he's been in season's past, but attribute it to the foot but seeing him practice is a great sign that he's going through any setbacks. He's still the top TE in fantasy football.

Description: Antonio Gates (foot) was held out of Chargers practice Friday. Source: Michael Ghelkin via Twitter
Insight: This all just part of the schedule for Gates and his practice routine. He'll be ready for Monday night against the Chiefs and should be considered a top 3 TE this week.

Description: Antonio Gates (foot) was limited in Chargers practice Wednesday. Source: Kevin Acee via Twitter
Insight: He's been stopping short of a guaranteed return in week 7, but it's encouraging that he's putting in some limited work. If he can put in more practices the rest of the week, he'll have a great shot at facing the Jets, who have a tough time with opposing tight ends.

10/12/2011 11:55:00 AM
Description: Antonio Gates (foot) won't guarantee that he'll be ready to return following the Chargers' Week 6 bye. Source: Michael Gehlken via Twitter
Insight: He's been feeling better recently, but won't commit to a return to the field until he's comfortable on the foot. The Chargers will return to practice next week, so there won't be any way to gauge a return until then.

10/2/2011 3:47:00 AM
Description: Chargers TE Antonio Gates won't play vs. the Dolphins in Week 4 and will be replaced by Randy McMichael.
Insight: On the other hand, the good news is that Philip Rivers will still have Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd in the passing game, though neither is 100%.

9/28/2011 9:04:00 PM
Description: Antonio Gates (foot) conceded Wednesday that "it'd be difficult" to play against the Dolphins this weekend. Source: Kevin Acee via Twitter
Insight: Gates thought the foot issues would have cleared up over the summer, but obviously, not the case. Looks like Randy McMichael will get another start this Sunday barring some comeback this week. It wouldn't be surprising if Gates is held out till after the bye week.

Description: Chargers TE Antonio Gates will visit a foot specialist on today to determine how best to approach treatment. SOURCE: SAN DIEGO TIMES-UNION
Insight: This sucks for fantasy owners. Really sucks. It makes me remember last year all over again, only this time he's done nothing for my teams to date. At least last year I got 9 really solid weeks from him. This year... nothing.

9/24/2011 7:54:00 PM
Description: ccording to team sources, Antonio Gates (foot) will not play in Week 3 against the Chiefs. Source: Pro Football Talk
Insight: The Chargers are huge favorites and they are taking the opportunity to give him some rest. His foot is probably going to bother him for the rest of the season, so it may not matter for the remainder of the season. Vincent Jackson is going to see an increase in targets and Randy McMichael will get the start for Gates.

9/22/2011 8:11:00 PM
Description: Antonio Gates (foot) was held out of practice again on Thursday. Source: Kevin Acee via Twitter
Insight: Kevin Acee also thinks that this injury will affect the rest of his career, so this injury is become quite the concern. Gates owners will want to have backup at the ready, as the rest of the season could be game-time decisions.
