Ravens TE Pitta returns to practice

Owings Mills, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta returned to practice for the first time all season on Thursday.

The club placed the fourth-year veteran on the injured reserve-designated to return list on Sept. 4, after he underwent surgery to repair a dislocated hip during the summer. The injury was initially considered season-ending, but additional tests revealed that he did not suffer any structural or ligament damage.

The Brigham Young product caught 61 passes for 669 yards and seven touchdowns last season.

In his absence, Baltimore has relied on both Dallas Clark and Ed Dickson, who combined for 39 receptions and 451 yards with three touchdowns.

Despite his comeback, Pitta still has no set timetable for an official return to action. He plans to test his repaired hip in practice over the next several weeks.
