(Wednesday, March 12th)
Final Score: LA Clippers 111, Golden State 98
Los Angeles, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - With the Los Angeles Clippers and Golden State Warriors each riding winning streaks, something had to give when the two Pacific Division rivals met on Wednesday.
Blake Griffin scored 30 points with 15 rebounds to lead the Clippers to their ninth straight win with a 111-98 decision over the Warriors at Staples Center.
Danny Granger scored 18 points off the bench for LA, his highest scoring output since April 19, 2012.
Chris Paul deposited a 16-point, 12-assist double-double, Willie Green scored 13 points, and Darren Collison and Matt Barnes each chipped in with 11 in the victory. DeAndre Jordan recorded 10 points with 11 rebounds.
"Each game like this helps, but we still have a lot of work to do," said Clippers coach Doc Rivers. "We have to learn physical composure and mental toughness. We need to keep getting tested. That's why I was looking forward to this game."
Klay Thompson paced the Warriors with 26 points, while David Lee notched 20 points with seven rebounds and Stephen Curry dropped in 13 points with 11 assists. Golden State had its five-game winning streak snapped.
Curry hit a 3-pointer to give the Warriors a 76-69 lead with 5 1/2 minutes left in the third quarter. Los Angeles proceeded to end the quarter on a 15-3 run, with Paul capping the spurt with a 3 and stake the Clippers to an 84-79 lead.
Granger missed a 3 early in the fourth, but Griffin was there, flying through the lane to convert a full extension putback slam to push the lead to seven.
An Andrew Bogut layup ended a 7:20 drought without a field goal for Golden State and cut the deficit to 91-86 with under eight minutes to play in the contest.
Lee's layup with just over five minutes cut it to four, but LA answered with six straight to make it a 10-point margin. The Clippers led by as many as 13 in the closing minutes and Golden State was within as little as seven.
"It's a battle every time we play each other," said Thompson. "We love playing them. We're right there. We're really close to being a great team."
The game was tied 29-29 after one quarter and the Warriors brought a slim 56-54 lead into the locker room at the half.
