Insight: Perez was 0-for-5 before the single down the third baseline that scored Christian Colon with two outs. Perez had a chance to drive in the tying run from third base in the eighth with one out and failed to deliever but came through in the 12th. Kansas City advances to face the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the ALDS.

Insight: Perez underwent a MRI on his knee last week and even though manager Ned Yost downplayed the injury, the all-star catcher is just 2-for-16 since the MRI. Wednesday is a tough matchup for Perez, so his struggles may continue.

Insight: The Royals called it a "precautionary measure." We imagine all everyday catchers are dealing with knee soreness to a certain degree at this point in the season. A day or two off should do the trick.

Insight: However, Perez is not a great play Friday as he's just 1-for-9 against Ricky Nolasco for his career. Perez has already set a career high for home runs (14), but his batting average is currently 24 points below his .291 career average.
