Description: Mets starter Rafael Montero struck out 10 batters and allowed one run on two hits in six innings Sunday against the Diamondbacks.
Insight: It was Montero's third career start. He's been shaky so far, walking nine batters and allowing four homers in 16 1/3 innings, but he showed his potential on Sunday.

Description: Mets RHP Rafael Montero allowed three runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks over six innings against the Yankees Wednesday in his major league debut.
Insight: Montero had a 3.67 ERA and a 41/18 K/BB in 41 2/3 innings with Triple-A Las Vegas this season. ranks him as the No. 2 prospect in New York's organization after Noah Syndergaard. With Dillon Gee (lat) on the DL and Jenrry Mejia struggling, Montero should stick around in the Mets rotation.

Description: While Zack Wheeler has been the focus of much attention, the Mets have another very good pitching prospect in the minor league system - Rafael Montero.
Insight: Pitching at Double-A Binghamton, Montero is 6-3 in 10 starts with a 2.72 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and a stunning 66/9 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He was also solid in one Triple_A start at Las Vegas. Consider him a candidate for a September call up and a top prospect.
