Dallas Clark finished with 12 catches for 142 yards and one touchdown against Detroit.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
As the fantasy sports editor, I feel it's my obligation to be in a variety of leagues and to that end I entered five football leagues in 2008.
After Sunday, only four remained alive for a title.
Last week's "miracle team" which used three waiver-wire players to upset one of my co-workers turned into this week's nightmare scenario. Actually, it didn't hurt too much as I was done by halftime of Sunday's early games.
That's because I ran into a "buzz saw" which began with Andre Johnson (11-207-1) and Dallas Clark (12-142-1) and ended when Steven Jackson and LaDainian Tomlinson reached paydirt.
The final margin was more than 80 points despite a nice performance from my Week 15 waiver wire pickup of Dallas running back Tashard Choice. So the team lost in the semi-final matchup, a decent showing, but unsatisfying when the trophy was in sight.
However, there was good news too. In a second league against some of my fellow co-workers, I reached next weekend's finals.
And that was despite having my long-range plan being foiled by injury. Earlier in the season I had traded Tomlinson in a deal involving Indianapolis running back Joseph Addai and wide receiver Santana Moss primarily because I knew that the fantasy playoff matchups for the Colts were: Cincinnati (23rd in rushing defense), Detroit (32nd and last) and Jacksonville (19th). The plan was perfect until Addai was sidelined by a sore shoulder. Instead of Addai having a big game, it was Dominic Rhodes who scored twice.
Still, I triumphed because this team has won all season on the back of quarterback Drew Brees and a powerful receiving corps of Larry Fitzgerald, Dwayne Bowe, Antonio Bryant, Wes Welker and Moss. Sunday was no exception as four of the five receivers scored.
I am also still alive for a title run, and in fact have the best record in two of the other three leagues. They use different formats and are not yet into "Finals Week."
For those of you who have made it to the finals - congratulations. For those who did not, remember, MLB's spring training is just eight weeks away and there is plenty of research you can be doing to get ahead of those still concentrating on the NFL.
