Yi Jianlian has averaged 12.6 points and 13 boards over his last three games.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
It was 2007 and youngster Yi Jianlian was supposed to be the next "superstar" basketball export out of China, following in the footsteps of Yao Ming.
Somewhere along the way, however, something went wrong and the 22-year-old (disputed by some), 7'0" forward never materialized into that great player. Perhaps expectations were too high, or maybe he hasn't been able to adjust to life in the NBA. He's also been hobbled by injuries every season.
All we do know is that we have been drafting him at the back end of our roster for a couple of years now hoping he would develop into the star that was predicted of him and that hasn't happened.
Jianlian has played in just 36 of 60 New Jersey Nets games this season. The good news for owners scouring the rosters for a late-season waiver pickup is that Jianlian (38% owned) has been playing much better of late.
He has averaged 12.6 points and 13 boards over his last three games. That kind of production is "fantasy-worthy" and at such a young age, he's still a work in progress so could continue to improve. In the meantime, if he can continue to play as he has over the past week, he could help you out over the final 20+ games.
