Vancouver Canucks Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Radim Vrbata, RW7/2/2014 10:40:00 PM
Description: Radim Vrbata has signed a two-year contract with the Vancouver Canucks.
Insight: The 33-year-old Vrbata had 20 goals, 31 assists, 263 SOG and 21 PPP last season, so he was still a quality fantasy winger. His value will grow on the Canucks, especially if he's used on the top line with the Sedins.
Ryan Miller, G 7/2/2014 12:37:00 PM
Description: Goalie Ryan Miller signed a three-year, $18 million contract with the Canucks on Tuesday.
Insight: Eddie Lack had a 2.41 GAA, a .912 SV% and four shutouts as a rookie last year, but the Canucks decided to bring in the top goalie on the free agent market in Miller. Miller, a former Vezina Trophy winner, had a 2.64 GAA and a .918 SV% with the Sabres and Blues last season, but he played poorly in the final month of the regular season and the playoffs.

Jason Garrison, D4/12/2014 2:02:00 PM
Description: Vancouver defenseman Jason Garrison is questionable for Saturday's game against Edmonton due to a lower body injury.
Insight: Garrison has 32 points, 55 PIM, 179 SOG and 14 PPP in 79 games, but is pointless in his last 11 and shouldn't be in any fantasy lineups.
Alexander Edler, D4/6/2014 10:38:00 AM
Description: Even with a goal and an assist Saturday night against the Kings, Canucks D Alexander Edler has just 21 points in 59 games this season.
Insight: What's worse is that Edler, a former two-time 40-point scorer, has a -32 rating, one of the worst in the NHL.
Henrik Sedin, C4/5/2014 8:32:00 PM
Description: Canucks center Henrik Sedin (leg) will get back in the lineup Saturday against the Kings, according to the Vancouver Province.
Insight: Sedin missed the last four games with a leg injury. The 33-year-old has just 46 points this season, his least for a full NHL campaign since 2003-04.
Henrik Sedin, C4/1/2014 5:42:00 PM

Insight: Sedin will miss his fourth straight contest, but he was on the ice being worked out by skills coach Glenn Carnegie prior to Tuesday's morning skate, according to Elliott Pap of the Vancouver Sun.
Kevin Bieksa, D3/28/2014 5:30:00 PM
Description: Vancouver defenseman Kevin Bieksa injured his right ankle in a collision with Gabriel Landeskog on Thursday night, according to Ben Kuzma of the Vancouver Province.
Insight: The Canucks haven't announced if he will miss Saturday's game against the Ducks, but they already called up a defenseman from the AHL so he probably will. Bieksa has four goals, 20 assists, 102 PIM and 153 SOG in 70 games this season.
David Booth, LW3/26/2014 10:27:00 PM
Description: Canucks left wing David Booth netted two goals Wednesday in a win over Minnesota.
Insight: After going 32 games in a row without scoring, Booth now has three goals in his last two contests. He'll have a chance to extend his scoring streak to three games Thursday versus the Avalanche.
Alex Burrows, LW3/26/2014 12:17:00 PM
Description: Vancouver left wing Alex Burrows (left thumb) will return to the lineup Wednesday, according to the Canucks on Twitter.
Insight: Burrows wasn't expected to travel with the team for its two-game road trip but he ended up joining his teammates in Minnesota after missing Sunday's game against Buffalo. Insight: Daniel Sedin just returned Sunday after missing nine games, but the brotherly reunion was shortlived. Renaud Lavoie reported Monday that Henrik could be out two weeks.
Henrik Sedin, C3/24/2014 10:05:00 AM
Description: Canucks center Henrik Sedin (leg) left in the second period and is is questionable for Wednesday's game against Minnesota.
Insight: Sedin (10 G, 36 A) had accumulated five points in his last three games before the injury. His brother, Daniel had just returned after missing the last nine games. Vancouver has struggled to score this season (ranked 25th of 30 teams) and the return of both Sedin brothers would be a huge benefit to the Canucks and fantasy owners.

Description: Vancouver center Ryan Kesler (knee) may return Sunday, according to the Vancouver Sun.
Insight: Kesler (22 G, 18 A, 218 SOG) will be a game-time decision against the Sabres. He last played on March 12 and missed the last four games.

Alex Burrows, LWHot3/17/2014 10:21:00 PM

Brad Richardson, C3/17/2014 11:49:00 AM

Description: Vancouver left wing Alex Burrows had three points Sunday at Florida, including a goal.

Ryan Kesler, C3/5/2014 4:52:00 PM
Description: The NHL trade deadline passed Wednesday and Ryan Kesler is still wearing a Vancouver Canucks uniform.
Insight: Multiple teams were reportedly interested in Kesler (21 G, 18 A, 212 SOG), but the Canucks didn't pull the trigger. He'll remain on a Vancouver team that just traded Roberto Luongo and will be without Daniel Sedin (lower body) indefinitely. A trade certainly could have helped his fantasy value for the rest of the season.
Daniel Sedin, LWCold3/5/2014 2:08:00 PM
Description: The Canucks have placed winger Daniel Sedin (lower body) on injured reserve. He's out indefinitely, according to tsn.ca.

Eddie Lack, G3/5/2014 9:50:00 AM
Description: New Canucks starting goalie Eddie Lack made 31 saves on 32 chances Tuesday at Phoenix but his teammates generated zero offense.
Insight: The trade of Robert Luongo to Florida Tuesday opened up the starting job for the 26-year-old Lack, who is 9-10-4 with a 2.05 GAA and a .926 SV% this season. He should be owned in all leagues.
Ryan Kesler, C3/4/2014 9:12:00 PM
Description: There's a very good chance that Vancouver will trade center Ryan Kesler before Wednesday's deadline. He won't be going to the Rangers, however, as Kesler has refused to waive his no-trade clause to play for the Blue Shirts. SOURCE: Larry Brooks, New York Post
Insight: Could you imagine Kesler on a line with Ryan Callahan and Carl Hagelin? Well don't bother because it's not happening. Kesler (21 G, 18 A in 62 games) is sure to be a fantasy asset wherever he ends up, even if that means staying with the Canucks.
Shawn Matthias, CHot3/4/2014 6:04:00 PM
Description: The Panthers have traded Shawn Matthias to Vancouver in the Roberto Luongo trade.
Insight: Matthias has produced three goals and two assists his last two games but has just 16 points in 59 games this season.
Jacob Markstrom, G3/4/2014 5:26:00 PM
Description: Goaltender Jacob Markstrom has been sent from the Florida Panthers to the Vancouver Canucks in the Roberto Luongo trade.
Insight: The 24-year-old was considered Florida's goalie of the future, but he has gone 11-25-5 with a 3.21 GAA and an .898 SV% in 43 career appearances. Markstrom will be serving as a backup to Eddie Lack on the Canucks, so there's no immediate need to add him in fantasy leagues.

Description: Canucks coach John Tortorella said winger Daniel Sedin (leg) "will be out for a while," according to the Canucks on Twitter.

Insight: Sedin was hit into the boards by Ottawa's Marc Methot and appeared to be favoring his knee. The winger has been ice cold since early January, posting just one point in his last 17 games. A long-term injury for Sedin may lead to the Canucks trading Ryan Kesler before the deadline.

Description: Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo had to leave Sunday's game early with a lower body injury. SOURCE: Farhan Lalji, TSN
Insight: We don't know the full extent of his injury but we do know the Canucks won't be in action again until Sunday. That gives the 34-year-old almost a week to heal. If he can't go, Eddie Lack would get the start between the pipes.
Chris Higgins, LWHot12/15/2013 10:50:00 AM
Description: Vancouver winger Chris Higgins is on a five game points streak.
Insight: He's scored three goals and added four helpers during the streak. Higgins has been skating with Ryan Kesler on the second line and has fantasy value as long as he stays there or moves up to play with the Sedins. The Canucks have won all seven games this month, so don't look for them to change anything.
Roberto Luongo, GHot12/14/2013 9:24:00 AM
Description: Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo saved 19 shots for his third shutout of the season Friday against Edmonton.
Insight: The win was his fourth straight. Luongo's 2.20 GAA is his lowest since 2011 (2.11). He's started 28 of the team's 34 games this season.
Jason Garrison, DHot12/7/2013 9:40:00 AM
Description: Vancouver defenseman Jason Garrison has two goals and nine points over his last seven games.
Insight: Garrison is doing most of his damage on the power-play lately, scoring six of those nine points with the man advantage. The 29-year-old blueliner has four goals, 14 assists, 18 PIM and 90 SOG in 31 games this season.
Alexander Edler, D12/5/2013 4:59:00 PM
Description: Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler (lower body) will be out indefinitely, according to the Vancouver Province.
Insight: Edler appeared to injure his right knee during Thursday's game. He's having a down year, posting nine points (three goals) and 71 SOG in 27 games.
Ryan Kesler, CHot12/4/2013 9:30:00 AM
Description: Vancouver center Ryan Kesler has scored more than one goal in each of his last two games.
Insight: He had two in Tuesday night's win over Nashville. After getting off to a hot start, Kesler slumped a bit in November, producing just two goals in 13 contests. He's owned the month of December though and fantasy owners would be wise to start him on a nightly basis.
Alex Burrows, LW12/3/2013 6:52:00 PM
Description: Canucks left wing Alex Burrows had surgery to repair a broken jaw on Monday. SOURCE: Canucks on Twitter
Insight: He's expected to miss about four weeks. Burrows hasn't added much this season (zero goals and three assists in 17 games) and probably won't be a fantasy consideration when he comes back.
Tanner Glass, LW11/26/2013 3:30:00 PM
Description: Penguins winger Tanner Glass will miss 3-for-4 weeks with a broken hand.
Insight: Glass has just six points in 24 games, but has accumulated 38 penalty minutes.
Henrik Sedin, C11/23/2013 10:20:00 AM
Description: Vancouver center Henrik Sedin scored two goals Friday against Columbus.
Insight: Sedin has come up with four points in his last four games and 24 points this season. Despite having four more points than his brother, Henrik is not as good of a fantasy option due to his lack of SOG (1.79 per game).
Daniel Sedin, LW11/23/2013 10:18:00 AM
Description: Canucks winger Daniel Sedin had three points (1 G, 2 A) Friday night after failing to pick up a point in six straight games.
Insight: Sedin had 17 points in his first 17 games this season but had gone ice cold lately, posting a -4 and missing on all of his 25 SOG during his six-game scoring drought.
Dale Weise, RW11/22/2013 11:33:00 AM
Description: Vancouver winger Dale Weise was activated on Tuesday from the injured reserve, but didn't do much for fantasy owners in the game with Florida.
Insight: Weise has little fantasy value with three points in 13 games. He scored eight points in 68 games in 2011 and six points in 40 games last season.
Alexandre Burrows, C11/17/2013 10:17:00 AM
Description: According to Dan Murphy of sportsnet.ca, Alexandre Burrows is expected to move back to the top line with the Sedins while Ryan Kesler centers the second line.
Insight: Unlike Kesler, Burrows does not sustain his fantasy value when he's moved off the Sedin line. He has zero goals, three assists and a -4 in nine games this season, but a bump in production could be coming.
David Booth, LW11/14/2013 12:08:00 PM
Description: Vancouver Canucks winger David Booth is probable for Thursday's game against San Jose after dealing with a lower body injury.
Insight: Booth has three points in 11 games this season and is seeing limited ice time, but averaged 35 points between 2010-2011.
Daniel Sedin, LW11/1/2013 8:59:00 PM

Insight: The signings pretty much guarantee the Sedin brothers will retire as Canucks. The two have combined for nine goals and 24 assists this season.
Dale Weise, RW11/1/2013 11:33:00 AM
Description: Vancouver winger Dale Weise is on injured reserve and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks with a lower body injury.
Insight: Weise has zero fantasy value. He scored eight points in 68 games in 2011 and six points in 40 games last season.
Jannik Hansen, RW11/1/2013 11:30:00 AM
Description: Vancouver right wing Jannik Hansen is on injured reserve and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks with an upper body injury.
Insight: Hansen has been improving his offense over the last two seasons and has made himself into a low-end fantasy option. He scored 27 points in 47 games last season with a solid +12 rating. He's totaled two goals and two assists in 11 games so far this year.
Jordan Schroeder, C11/1/2013 11:28:00 AM
Description: Vancouver center Jordan Schroeder is on injured reserve and is expected to miss two months after ankle surgery.
Insight: He was scoreless in three games this season after posting nine points in 31 games last season.
David Booth, LW11/1/2013 11:28:00 AM
Description: Vancouver Canucks winger David Booth is expected to miss 1-2 weeks with a lower body injury.

Keith Ballard, D11/1/2013 11:10:00 AM
Description: Minnesota defenseman Keith Ballard is probable for Friday's game against Montreal after recovering from a concussion.
Insight: He has one point in six games this season. Ballard hasn't cracked the double-digit point total since 2009 so his fantasy value is still zero.
David Booth, LW10/28/2013 2:10:00 PM
Description: Vancouver Canucks winger David Booth is questionable for Monday's game against Washington with an undisclosed injury.
Insight: Booth has three points in 11 games this season, but averaged 35 points in the two preceeding campaigns.

Description: Canucks center Ryan Kesler scored two goals Friday against the Blues, including the game-winner with 14 seconds left in overtime.
Insight: Kesler took eight SOG and now has 54 through 13 games. He's scored four goals in his last three games and has seven goals and 10 points on the year.
Eddie Lack, G10/25/2013 7:32:00 PM
Description: Eddie Lack will start in net for the Canucks Friday at St. Louis.
Insight: Lack has made just two starts this season as Robert Luongo's backup and is 1-1-0 with a 2.96 GAA and a .906 SV%. Fantasy owners can ignore him.
Jannik Hansen, RW10/24/2013 1:52:00 PM
Description: Vancouver right wing Jannik Hansen is doubtful for Thursday's game against New Jersey with an upper body injury.
Insight: Hansen has been improving his offense over the last two seasons and has made himself into a low-end fantasy option. He scored 27 points in 47 games last season with a solid +12 rating. He's totaled two goals and two assists in 11 games so far this year.
Daniel Sedin, LW10/22/2013 10:38:00 PM
Description: Vancouver left wing Daniel Sedin had two points -- 1 G, 1 A -- Tuesday against the Islanders.

Alexander Edler, D10/19/2013 9:43:00 PM
Description: Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler scored a goal Saturday in his return from a three-game suspension.
Insight: Edler received a three-game ban from the NHL for an illegal hit on San Jose's Tomas Hertl. The defenseman has two goals and four points in his first six games and should remain a strong blue-line option.
Maxim Lapierre, C10/19/2013 11:07:00 AM
Description: St. Louis center Maxim Lapierre has been handed a five-game ban for his hit on Sharks defenseman Dan Boyle earlier in the week. SOURCE: NHL.com
Insight: Lapierre has already sat out two games, which means he'll be eligible to return November 1st against the Panthers. Lapierre has only been getting about nine and a half minutes of ice time a game, which isn't enough playing time for fantasy owners to rely on him.
Maxim Lapierre, C10/18/2013 10:10:00 AM
Description: Blues forward Maxim Lapierre is expected to miss Friday's game against Winnipeg. He did not play Thursday.
Insight: Lapierre will meet with the NHL after his hit on San Jose's Dan Boyle. He's scoreless in five games, so he has no fantasy value.
Roberto Luongo, G10/17/2013 10:19:00 PM
Description: Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo turned aside all 25 shots he faced Thursday against Buffalo.
Insight: It was Luongo's first shutout since February 22nd. It's been an up and down year for Luongo, who has now won three of his last five starts after losing the season opener at San Jose.
Maxim Lapierre, C10/17/2013 2:04:00 PM
Description: Blues forward Maxim Lapierre is doubtful for Thursday's game against Chicago.

Insight: He had back-to-back +29 rating seasons in 2010 and 2011 and has totaled 20 points or more for nine consecutive seasons. Get him back in your lineup.

Description: Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler has been suspended three games for a hit on San Jose rookie Tomas Hertl Thursday night.
Insight: According to NHL Director of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan, Edler made Hertl's head the "main point of contact." Edler is a repeat offender, as he was suspended last season for charging Phoenix goaltender Mike Smith.
Eddie Lack, G10/6/2013 2:54:00 PM
Description: The Canucks will start 25-year-old Eddie Lack in net Sunday at Calgary.
Insight: Lack went 7-4 with a 3.00 GAA in 13 games in the AHL last season but suffered a season-ending injury near the end of the lockout and forced Vancouver to shy away from trading Roberto Luongo. With Lack healthy, the Canucks were able to deal Cory Schneider to the Devils this offseason. Still, with Luongo expected to make most of the starts Lack won't have much fantasy value.
Ryan Kesler, C10/6/2013 11:11:00 AM
Description: Canucks center Ryan Kesler took nine SOG and scored on one of them Saturday against the Oilers.
Insight: Kesler has one point in two games but he has provided fantasy owners with 12 SOG and nine PIM. Injuries limited him to 17 games last season, but when healthy is a strong fantasy center.
Jason Garrison, DHot10/6/2013 11:08:00 AM
Description: Vancouver defenseman Jason Garrison has two goals and one assist in the first two games.
Insight: Garrison had a power-play goal in the season opener and a shorthanded goal Saturday against Edmonton. He's playing on Vancouver's top power-play line with Alexander Edler, Ryan Kesler and the Sedins, so he's a must-add in fantasy leagues.
Henrik Sedin, CHot10/6/2013 10:47:00 AM
Description: Vancouver center Henrik Sedin has four assists in the first two games this season.
Insight: Sedin had more points than his twin brother last season but Daniel's fantasy production tends to be greater since Henrik doesn't take many shots on goal (1.5 per game last season).
Daniel Sedin, LWHot10/6/2013 10:44:00 AM
Description: Vancouver left wing Daniel Sedin scored a goal and had one assist with six SOG Saturday against the Oilers.

Description: Canucks center Alex Burrows (foot) will miss "a couple of weeks," coach John Tortorella said. SOURCE: Vancouver Sun
Insight: Burrows suffered a foot injury when he blocked a shot Thursday against the Sharks. Tortorella wouldn't confirm whether the forward's foot is broken. His injury opens up a valuable spot playing with the Sedin twins.

Description: The NHL has suspended Canucks right wing Zack Kassian five games for his hit on Oilers center Sam Gagner on Saturday.
