Vancouver Canucks (20-10-5) at Minnesota Wild (19-11-5), 8 p.m.
(SportsNetwork.com) - The Vancouver Canucks have a chance to record their
longest winning streak in almost three years on Tuesday night as they kick off
a road trip against the Minnesota Wild.
After taking all five games of a recent homestand, the Canucks have won a
season-high seven straight games. It is the longest string of victories for
Vancouver since a seven-game run from March 22-April 3, 2012 and the club has
not won eight consecutive games since Dec. 23-Jan. 7 of the 2010-11 campaign.
The Canucks capped their recent homestand by playing host to the Boston Bruins
for the first time since Game 7 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals. Though the
Bruins left town as champions on that day, the Canucks were able to record a
6-2 victory on Saturday night.
Henrik Sedin posted a goal and an assist while Roberto Luongo made 39 saves.
Yannick Weber, David Booth, Christopher Tanev, Chris Higgins and Jannik Hansen
"Boston is one of the best teams in the East. We didn't have to say anything
about emotion pregame. They were ready," said Canucks coach John Tortorella,
whose club will play its next three games on the road.
The Wild gutted out a 2-1 shootout win over the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday
after having lost three of their previous four games.
Mikko Koivu had the winner in the second round of the shootout and Josh
Harding made 26 saves through overtime.
Harding got beat on a deflection midway through the second period, but Nino
Niederreiter's first tally in 11 games with 3:53 left in regulation tied the
"The guys did a great job of shutting them down after that goal," said
Harding of the Avs' second-period goal. "We needed to win on the road and
we'll take two points, shootout or not."
The Wild have won two straight overall versus the Canucks and seven of the
last 10 meetings at home.
Harding is 2-4-0 with a 2.41 goals against average in eight career games
versus Vancouver, including six starts, while Luongo is 17-15-4 with a tie,
2.68 GAA and five shutouts over his career when facing Minnesota.
