New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Ben Scrivens recorded a second consecutive
shutout with 37 saves and the Los Angeles Kings edged the New York Rangers,
1-0, at Madison Square Garden.
"He just had to be solid," Kings head coach Darryl Sutter said of Scrivens.
Scrivens has won all three of his starts since starting goaltender Jonathan
Quick went down with a groin injury.
Tyler Toffoli staked the backup to a lead 1:23 into the second period with a
shot from the right point that deflected off the skate of Rangers defenseman
It was the only blemish for an otherwise terrific night for Henrik Lundqvist,
who made 29 saves and watched his offense waste five power-play opportunities.
The Kings were whistled for three penalties in a 3:10 span midway through the
second period, but killed off two 5-on-3s to keep their 1-0 lead.
"We had about 50 seconds of 5-on-3s out there and we didn't connect, so our
execution might have been a little bit off," Rangers head coach Alain
New York failed to capitalize on Dustin Brown's cross-checking penalty in the
third and had a goal waived off with 2:41 remaining when Dominic Moore kicked
in the would-be equalizer.
Scrivens made 26 saves in a shutout of the Devils on Friday ... Toffoli has
four goals since being recalled from the minors on Nov. 2 ... The Kings only
had one power-play chance ... The Kings are 5-0-1 in their last six games ...
The Rangers earned a 3-1 win in LA on Oct. 7.
