Each team scored in the first round of the penalty-shot tiebreaker before the
goaltenders traded stops in the next round.
Gustav Nyquist was the third shooter for Detroit and he went with a spin-o-
rama backhand, but San Jose netminder Antti Niemi denied the flashy attempt
with his left skate.
Marleau, who opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal, secured the extra
point for the Sharks by beating Detroit's Jimmy Howard through the five-hole

Logan Couture tied the game in the third period for San Jose, which snapped a

who found the back of the net at the 2:35 mark of the first period.
Detroit pulled even at 9:51 of the middle frame when Abdelkader scored from
close range off Johan Franzen's behind-the-net pass.
Zetterberg picked up his 400th career assist ... The Sharks have now won eight
