Ottawa, ON (Sports Network) - Ottawa Senators goaltender Craig Anderson has been diagnosed with a sprained right ankle, with the team listing their No. 1 netminder as day-to-day.
Anderson sustained the injury early in the third period of Thursday's 3-2 shootout win over the New York Rangers following a hard collision with the Blueshirts' Chris Kreider. He had stopped all 21 shots he faced prior to departing.
The 31-year-old is unlikely to participate in Saturday's game at Toronto, with either Ben Bishop or rookie Robin Lehner expected to draw the start. The Senators recalled Lehner from their AHL affiliate in Binghamton on Friday.
Anderson is in the midst of an excellent beginning to his 2012-13 campaign, as he currently leads the NHL in both goals against average (1.49) and save percentage (.952) over 15 starts.
The Senators have been hit hard by injuries all throughout this season. Reigning Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson is out for the year after having his Achilles tendon lacerated last week, while top-line center Jason Spezza is out until at least late March after undergoing back surgery. Milan Michalek, the team's leader with 35 goals in 2011-12, is also currently sidelined with a knee injury.
To make room for Lehner on the active roster, Ottawa reassigned center Stephane Da Costa to Binghamton. Da Costa had recorded one goal and one assists in nine games with the Sens this season.
