Toronto, ON (Sports Network) - Ottawa Senators defenseman Jared Cowen will undergo hip surgery this weekend.
TSN of Canada quoted Cowen's agent Rick Valette on Tuesday, who said the 21- year-old is slated to have a procedure to repair a small tear in the labrum on Saturday morning in New York -- one which Valette believes will keep Cowen on the sidelines for the remainder of the season.
Selected ninth overall by the Sens in 2009, Cowen played in his first full NHL campaign last year, posting five goals and 17 points in 82 games. He was limited to three assists in three contests for Binghamton of the American Hockey League this season.
