Anaheim, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Anaheim Ducks forward Teemu Selanne will leave the club during their current eight-game road trip and return to southern California to undergo oral surgery.
The team announced Wednesday that Selanne lost several teeth and needed 40 stitches to close a cut suffered during Tuesday's 3-2 win in Philadelphia. The 43-year-old left the game in the third period and did not return, a trail of blood on the ice behind him after an errant high stick caught him in the face.
Selanne is expected to return to action in two weeks. He has produced three goals and seven points in 11 games this season.
Anaheim, which holds second place in the Pacific Division with a 10-3-0 record, takes on Boston Thursday, then completes its cross-country trek with games at Buffalo on Saturday and in Manhattan next Monday.
