Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - The Tennessee Titans have found their next head coach.
Former Arizona Cardinals chief Ken Whisenhunt, who spent the 2013 season as the offensive coordinator for the San Diego Chargers, was named to the post on Monday, assuming the role in place of the fired Mike Munchak.
Munchak was let go on Jan. 4 after going 22-26 over his tenure, including a 7-9 record this past season.
"I have a lot of respect for Ken as a coach and as an offensive mind," said Titans general manager Ruston Webster. "The traits that stand out to me when identifying him as our next coach -- he is intelligent, has a track record with quality offenses and head coaching success. I really enjoyed our meeting on Friday night in San Diego and we share similar philosophies about the game. Additionally, we have several mutual colleagues that have spoken highly to me about Ken both as a coach and as a person. I am excited about Ken joining us and the future of the Titans."
The 51-year-old Whisenhunt led Arizona to a 45-51 record over six seasons from 2007-12, taking home a pair of NFC West titles and an appearance in Super Bowl XLIII.
A product of Georgia Tech who suited up for the Falcons, Redskins, and Jets during a seven-year career, Whisenhunt also coached with Vanderbilt (1995-96), the Baltimore Ravens (1997-98), Cleveland (1999), the Jets (2000) and Steelers (2001-06).
