Minnesota Timberwolves (6-7) at Los Angeles Clippers (8-6), 10:30 p.m.
(Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Clippers will try to stop a four-game
losing streak on Wednesday night when they host the Minnesota Timberwolves at
the Staples Center.
The Clippers won six in a row, including a 92-87 victory in San Antonio
against the Spurs to start a recent road trip. They dropped the next three
outside of Hollywood and thought they could get back on track against the
lowly New Orleans Hornets, who showed up in Los Angeles losers of their
previous seven games on Monday.
The Hornets went into L.A. and dusted the Clippers, 105-98. The Hornets shot
over 50 percent from the field and 60 percent from the 3-point line and
Clippers coach Vinny Del Negro was not happy.
"Embarrassing game for us," Del Negro said. "Give New Orleans credit. They
There was a bright spot for the Clippers on Monday. Caron Butler became the
first Clippers player this season to eclipse the 30-point mark when he nailed
a franchise-best nine 3-pointers. Butler went 9-for-15 from beyond the arc to
The Clippers matched a team record with 37 3-point attempts.
It was a bad night for star Blake Griffin. He equaled a career-low with four
points and just one made field goal. Griffin was held scoreless in the first
half and according to the Elias Sports Bureau, in 162 career games, Griffin
was shut out in just one other half: Mar. 12, 2011 against the Washington
The Timberwolves snapped a five-game losing streak on Tuesday with a 97-89
victory in Sacramento over the Kings.
Kevin Love got his first win this season since he returned from a broken hand
on Nov. 21. Love scored 23 points and grabbed 24 rebounds, which is a high
this season in the NBA.
"It was one of the most complete games I've seen him play," head coach Rick
Adelman said of his star player. "He wasn't forcing anything. He passed the
ball. He set screens. He did whatever we needed."
What the Wolves needed was a win. Their last victory before Tuesday came on
Nov. 12, a road win against the Dallas Mavericks. During the five-game dry
spell, the Wolves lost three at home and two on the road. Wednesday's game
ends a four-game western trip.
The Timberwolves won three of the four matchups last season with the Clippers,
including both games in Los Angeles.
