San Antonio Spurs (60-17) at Minnesota Timberwolves (38-38), 8 p.m.
(SportsNetwork.com) - The San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves will
make up their postponed game from Mexico City Wednesday night, although this
time it will be at the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis.
After a generator malfunction caused smoke to fill Mexico City Arena back in
December, the game was called and the decision was made to award the
Timberwolves a genuine home game.
The Spurs, who had their 19-game winning streak snapped on Thursday, came back
with a home win Sunday night over the Memphis Grizzlies. San Antonio
prevailed, 112-92, but the win came with a price.
San Antonio All-Star guard Tony Parker injured his back, played less than 10
minutes and will not accompany the club on their upcoming road trip, which
includes a stop in Dallas on Thursday.
An MRI taken Monday revealed the 31-year-old, three-time NBA champion suffers
from a sprained facet joint on the left side of his back.
Against the Grizzlies, Kawhi Leonard shot 12-of-13 from the field and matched
a career-high with 26 points. Manu Ginobili also scored 26 points for the
Spurs. Tim Duncan posted 13 points in the triumph.
San Antonio can clinch homecourt throughout the playoffs with a win and an
Oklahoma City Thunder loss on Tuesday. OKC plays in Sacramento against the
The Wolves have no sympathy for the Spurs' injury problems. Minnesota is
expected to have nine healthy bodies for Tuesday's matchup with San Antonio.
All-Star forward Kevin Love will return after missing the Wolves' last game
with back spasms, but Nikola Pekovic, Kevin Martin, Chase Budinger and Shabazz
Muhammad are all expected to be out.
With Love out, and just a night after an incredible, double-overtime road
victory over the Miami Heat, the Timberwolves fell to the Orlando Magic
Saturday night, 100-92, in Orlando.
"We beat the champs last night then get beat by the Magic," said forward Corey
Brewer. "It's a tough loss for us."
Minnesota was paced by Ricky Rubio, who netted 18 points with 10 assists.
Brewer tallied 15 points, while Dante Cunningham, Gorgui Dieng and Robbie
Hummel each added 12, with Dieng grabbing eight rebounds in the setback.
The Timberwolves scored 30 points off 23 Orlando turnovers, but allowed the
Magic to shoot 54.4. percent from the floor and 53 percent from beyond the 3-
The Spurs won both of this season's meetings with the T'Wolves, but have lost
three of their last four in Minnesota.
