Warriors' Barnes to miss start of season
Oakland, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Golden State Warriors head coach Mark Jackson revealed Tuesday that forward Harrison Barnes will be sidelined for at least the first two games of the upcoming regular season due to a lingering foot injury.
Barnes has been dealing with inflammation in his left foot since early October and missed the Warriors' final five games of the preseason. The talented sophomore will be inactive for Wednesday's opener against the Los Angeles Lakers as well as Thursday's road matchup against the Clippers, with Jackson declaring Barnes day-to-day thereafter.
The 21-year-old put together a strong debut campaign in 2012-13 to help the Warriors return to the playoffs after a five-year absence and advance to the Western Conference semifinals. Barnes averaged 9.2 points and 4.1 rebounds during the regular season, but upped those numbers to 16.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game in the postseason.
Barnes is slated to serve as Golden State's sixth man this season following the team's addition of Andre Iguodala.
