Washington, DC (SportsNetwork.com) - Infielder Jamey Carroll was among eight players signed by the Washington Nationals to minor league contracts, the team announced Friday.
Carroll spent the 2013 season, his 12th in the majors, between the Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals and batted .211 with 11 RBI in 73 games.
The veteran utilityman, who turns 40 on February 18, returns to the organization in which he began his pro career. Carroll was drafted by Montreal in 1996 and broke into the big leagues with the Expos in 2002, and played four seasons with Montreal/Washington before heading to Colorado in 2006.
Over 1,276 career major league games with six different teams (Montreal/Washington, Colorado, Clevland, Los Angeles Dodgers, Minnesota and Kansas City), Carroll owns a .272 average with 13 home runs, 265 RBI and 74 stolen bases.
Also inked to minor league deals, all of which include invitations to spring training, were pitchers Manny Delcarmen and Clay Hensley, infielder Mike Fontenot and catcher Chris Snyder. Each possesses extensive major league experience, though only Snyder appeared in the big leagues of that group in 2013.
Washington also signed pitchers Gabriel Alfaro and Daniel Stange and infielder Brock Peterson.
