(Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers have reportedly reached an agreement on a deal with free-agent pitcher Anibal Sanchez.
ESPN.com, citing Sanchez's agent, Gene Mato, reported Friday that the Tigers re-signed his client to a five-year, $80 million contract.
The Tigers apparently won a bidding war with the Chicago Cubs to retain the right-hander's services.
Sanchez arrived in Detroit with second baseman Omar Infante in a July 23 trade with the Miami Marlins. He went 4-6 with a 3.74 earned run average in 12 regular-season starts for the Tigers, then compiled a 1.77 ERA while going 1-2 in three playoff outings.
For his career, the 28-year-old has posted a 48-51 record with a 3.75 ERA since reaching the majors with the Marlins in 2006.
