Surprise goaltending leaders

Craig Anderson has gone 10-3-2 with the Avs.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - On Draft Day, Colorado's Craig Anderson, Phoenix goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov and Buffalo's Ryan Miller weren't the first names selected. In fact, Miller was the highest drafted of the three and was the 13th goalie taken off the board.

But if you check the standings on November 2nd, it's this surprise trio leading the way over the likes of Evgeni Nabokov, Miikka Kiprusoff and Martin Brodeur.

Anderson split time in Florida last season with Tomas Vokoun, going 15-7-5 with a 2.71 GAA and a .924 save percentage, but his signing of a two-year deal with Colorado has been all good so far.

The Park Ridge, IL native has gone 10-3-2 with the Avs, with a solid 2.11 GAA and a .936 save percentage. His 10 wins lead the league and it includes two shutouts. Considering he was the 28th goaltender selected, he's been a huge bargain and there is no reason to think this kind of performance won't continue. He's owned in 87% of all leagues, so if you are in one of the leagues where he is still a free agent, what are you waiting for?

Bryzgalov leads the league in shutouts with three and in GAA (1.78) for those with at least six starts. All three of his shutouts are on the road, at St. Louis, at San Jose and at Pittsburgh. He has given up two goals-or-less in eight of 11 starts.

Of the three, Miller got the most respect on Draft Day, yet still saw a dozen goalies picked in front of him. So far he's 8-1-1 with a 1.86 GAA and a .936 save percentage. Miller was a solid 34-18-6 last season, but to date his GAA and SV% are drastically lower.

Please remember, however, if you are planning to offer everything including the kitchen sink for one of these guys that we're just one-eighth of the way through the season. Whether they can keep this pace up for 70 more games is another story.
