Description: Packers coach Mike McCarthy made it official - QB Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) will not play in Week 16.
Insight: Thanks to a great comeback in Dallas and Justin Tucker's kicking on Monday night, the Packers control their own fate and will win the NFC North if they win their final two games. But it appears that they will have to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers with Matt Flynn under center.
Description: All signs are pointing to Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) sitting in Week 16.
Insight: Thanks to a great comeback in Dallas and Justin Tucker's kicking on Monday night, the Packers control their own fate and will win the NFC North if they win their final two games. Description: Saints quarterback Drew Brees is 500 passing yards away from his third straight 5,000-yard season.
Insight: Brees already has reached 30 touchdowns for the sixth consecutive year, and he's cut his interceptions down from 19 last season to 10 while raising his completion percentage from 63 percent to 68.2 percent.
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco (knee) ended up having an MRI and it revealed a "mild" MCL sprain, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. He's expected to play in Week 16, but will wear a brace against the Patriots.
Insight: Flacco suffered the injury Monday when Detroit's DeAndre Levy fell forward into his left knee. "It wasn't really bothering me once the initial hit," Flacco said Monday night, via the Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec. "I was probably more scared than anything from just what I felt and also just trying to get a couple of yards out of it. Yeah, it feels fine. It feels strong." Flacco hasn't exceeded 20 fantasy points in a game this season and is averaging 12.6 fantasy points per game.
Description: Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco (knee) practiced Wednesday in a limited capacity and should play in Week 16 against the Patriots.
Insight: Flacco suffered a left knee injury Monday when Detroit's DeAndre Levy fell forward into it. However, he didn't even need an MRI. "It wasn't really bothering me once the initial hit," Flacco said Sunday night, via the Baltimore Sun's Jeff Zrebiec. "I was probably more scared than anything from just what I felt and also just trying to get a couple of yards out of it. Yeah, it feels fine. It feels strong." Flacco hasn't exceeded 20 fantasy points in a game this season and is averaging 12.6 fantasy points per game.
Description: Packers QB Aaron Rodgers (collarbone) still has not been cleared by team doctors, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Insight: Thanks to a great comeback in Dallas and Justin Tucker's kicking on Monday night, the Packers now control their own fate and will win the NFC North if they win their final two games. Fantasy owners should prepare for a late-week decision regarding Green Bay's starting QB in Week 16 against Pittsburgh.
Description: Texans quarterback Case Keenum won't play Sunday against the Broncos. He's battling a sprained thumb. SOURCE: Tania Ganguli, ESPN
Insight: Matt Schaub, who was booed off the field earlier this season, will get the start. It's been a miserable year for the Texans, a team most were expecting to compete for the AFC Championship. Sunday's loss to Indy was their 12th consecutive defeat.
Description: Aaron Rodgers (broken collarbone) has another doctor's appointment scheduled for Wednesday to determine is he can get the ok to play Sunday.
Insight: Thanks to a great comeback in Dallas and Justin Tucker's kicking on Monday night, the Packers now control their own fate. Green Bay will win the NFC North if they win their final two games. That would be a lot easier with All-Pro Rodgers under center.
Description: The Vikings will use Matt Cassel as their starting quarterback for the rest of the season. SOURCE: Chris Mortensen, ESPN
Insight: Cassel has actually done fairly well as the starter, going 2-2 with nine touchdowns and five interceptions. His 90.7 QB rating is his highest since 2010. He'll have his work cut out for him against the Bengals in Week 16 (seventh-best at defending the pass).
Description: Matt Cassel will start for Minnesota Sunday against Cincinnati next weekend, according to a report from Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press
Insight: That shouldn't come as a shock to anyone after he engineered an upset of Philadelphia, throwing for 382 yards and two scores and running for a third. The news should also make Greg Jennings owners happy as he has posted much better numbers with Cassel under center.
Description: Packers quarterback Matt Flynn went off for 299 yards and four touchdowns to help Green Bay turn a 26-3 halftime deficit into a 37-36 win in Week 15 at Dallas.
Insight: The big game may have actually ruined Flynn's chances of starting the rest of the season, as the Packers are still alive in the NFC North and have a reason to bring Aaron Rodgers back. It also shows just how bad Dallas' defense is. If you were wondering, Kirk Cousins will take his shot at the Cowboys next week.
Description: Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith dropped 287 yards and five touchdowns on the Raiders in Week 15.
Insight: Smith was helped by a colossal game from Jamaal Charles, who had 195 yards and four TDs through the air. The veteran QB has averaged 21.4 fantasy points per game over his last five games, scoring at least 21 points in four of them.
Description: Eagles quarterback Nick Foles continued to put up huge fantasy numbers in Week 15 at Minnesota.
Insight: Foles managed to generate 19 fantasy points despite playing in a blizzard last week and he had a field day in the Metrodome Sunday. Foles threw for 428 yards and three touchdowns with one pick and rushed for 41 yards.
Description: Bears quarterback Jay Cutler completed 22-of-31 for 265 yards, three touchdowns and two picks in his return to action Sunday at Cleveland.
Insight: Cutler was wild early and threw two interceptions on high throws to Brandon Marshall, but he came through for fantasy owners who took the chance and started him. He had a little help from Alshon Jeffery, who somehow pulled in an underthrown 45-yard pass in double coverage for a touchdown.
Description: Ignore the questionable label attached to Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer (elbow). He's going to start Sunday against Tennessee.
Insight: He's carried the questionable label into the last several games and played in all of them. According to ESPN's John Clayton, this week shouldn't be any different. Palmer's 85.6 quarterback rating this season is his highest since 2007.
Description: Aaron Rodgers (broken collarbone) didn't take any snaps with the first team on Friday and has been ruled out for Sunday's game in Dallas. On Thursday, Rodgers had indicated that he'd need to get the majority of the first-team reps on Friday to start.
Insight: Matt Flynn will start for the third week in a row. Rodgers may not play again this season if the Packers can't stay in the playoff race.
Description: Bears coach Marc Trestman says Jay Cutler (ankle) will start Sunday against the Browns.
Insight: Backup Josh McCown has thrown for at least 348 yards in each of the last three games but Trestman said Cutler is still the starter. Cutler has a 13-8 TD-INT ratio this season compared to 13-1 for McCown. Either QB is a top-10 fantasy play with Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery at wideout.
Description: According to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune, Bears coach Marc Trestman says he is "optimistic" Jay Cutler (ankle) will start Sunday against the Browns. Cutler was cleared to practice at full speed Wednesday.
Insight: Backup Josh McCown has thrown for at least 348 yards in each of the last three games with nine touchdowns (eight passing) and two turnovers during that stretch, but Trestman said Cutler is still the starter. Cutler has a 13-8 TD-INT ratio, compared to 13-1 for McCown.
Description: An unnamed Redskins player told Jeff Darlington of NFL.com that the risk of re-injury was the explanation Mike Shanahan gave the team for Robert Griffin III's benching.
Insight: Griffin will sit the rest of the season in favor of Kirk Cousins so he can go into the offseason fully healthy. In 13 games, Griffin threw for 3,203 yards with 16 touchdowns and 12 interceptions and rushed for 489 yards (zero rushing scores). He had 3,200 yards, 20 scores and five picks through the air and 815 yards with seven TDs on the ground over 15 games as a rookie before suffering a torn ACL in the postseason.
Description: According to ESPN's Ben Goessling, Matt Cassel will start for Minnesota Sunday against the Eagles.
Insight: Cassel has been Minnesota's only competent option at quarterback this season and will likely close out the season under center barring some kind of disaster. However, he's too risky to start as a QB2.
Description: According to espn.com, the Redskins will start Kirk Cousins at quarterback Sunday against the Falcons.
Insight: Mike Shanahan has opted to bench Robert Griffin III to keep him healthy for the offseason. after Washington surrendered 24 sacks over the last five games. The 25-year-old Cousins has completed 45-of-73 (61.6%) for 573 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions during his NFL career and threw for 329 yards and two touchdowns in his lone start. While Atlanta's defense has given up the fourth most fantasy points to opposing QBs, fantasy owners cannot trust Cousins in the fantasy playoffs.
Description: Washington owner Daniel Snyder is leaving the decision to bench quarterback Robert Griffin III up to head coach Mike Shanahan. SOURCE: Washington Post
Insight: We expect a decision to be made on Wednesday. If Griffin is benched, the Redskins will turn to Kirk Cousins Sunday in Atlanta. Cousins has completed 12-of-25 passes for 107 yards and two interceptions in parts of two games this season.
Description: Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers gave an update on his collarbone injury Tuesday during his weekly radio show. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, the news he shared wasn't very encouraging.
Insight: Rodgers admitted he "didn't feel good" at last week's practice while acknowledging that he's having trouble making simple movements. If we had to guess, we'd expect Matt Flynn to start Sunday against Dallas.
Description: We should get an update on Aaron Rodgers' status after team physician Dr. Pat McKenzie evaluates him on Wednesday.
Insight: Rodgers (broken collarbone) has been practicing, but without contact. Detroit's loss on Sunday has Green Bay back in the playoff hunt so Rodgers definitely has incentive to return before the season ends.
Description: Despite another fine performance from backup Josh McCown on Monday night, Bears coach Marc Trestman insists Jay Cutler is still the team's starter when healthy. SOURCE: ESPN Chicago
Insight: McCown has been terrific for the Bears, compiling a 109.8 quarterback rating in seven contests. Cutler, meanwhile, is still waiting to be cleared after missing the last four games with an ankle injury.
Description: According to NFL.com's Jeff Darlington, Redskins coach Mike Shanahan is considering sitting Robert Griffin III so he doesn't get injured in the last three games.
Insight: Shanahan said he will make a decision Wednesday on his starter for Sunday's game against the Falcons. "If he did get injured, I’d be very disappointed if he wasn’t there in the offseason," Shanahan said. The Washington coach is also on the hot seat, as the Washington Post reported Monday the team is looking into firing him with cause and withholding the remaining money on his contract.
Description: Colts QB Andrew Luck woke up in the second half to finish with 326 yards and four touchdowns Sunday against Cincinnati.
Insight: It was easily Luck's best fantasy performance of the season. Despite losing for the third time in five games, Indianapolis was able to wrap up the AFC South crown thanks to Denver's win over Tennessee. If the playoffs started today, the Colts would face Kansas City in the opening round.
Description: Browns QB Jason Campbell had a fine afternoon Sunday against New England.
Insight: Campbell looked sharp in his first game back from a concussion, completing 29-of-44 passes for 391 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran twice for 27 yards. As long as superstar wideout Josh Gordon is around to throw to, Campbell should continue to have fantasy success.
Description: New England QB Tom Brady threw for a season-high 418 yards in Sunday's come-from-behind win over Cleveland.
Insight: And he did it with Rob Gronkowski out of commission for most of the second half. After struggling mightily early in the year, Brady has looked like a totally different player over the past several weeks. Even if Gronk is done for the year, and it looks like he might be, we still have faith in Brady to get the job done. He'll face the Dolphins in Miami in Week 15.
Description: According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer (elbow) took all of Arizona's snaps at Saturday's walkthrough and is expected to start Sunday against the Rams.
Insight: Palmer suffered an elbow injury in Week 13 against the Eagles and has been limited in practice. While he has thrown for multiple touchdowns in five straight games and 300-plus yards in three, Palmer should not be started as a QB1 against a Rams team that is tied for fifth in the NFL with 37 sacks, not when he's dealing with a sore elbow.
