Insight: Spurgeon (2 G, 4 A, plus 7 rating) makes him a viable fantasy option this season, but he's going to miss at least the one game. He totaled five goals and 26 points last season, but is on a personal record pace through the first nine games.

Description: Bruins defensemen Torey Krug will be sidelined for two-to-three weeks with a broken finger according to nhl.com.
Insight: Krug suffered the injury in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Wild. Krug has two goals and four assists in 11 games. Boston will continue to struggle defensively without Zdeno Chara, Kevan Miller and now Krug.

Insight: Maatta will undergo surgery to remove a tumor on his neck, but until the surgery, he will play. Maatta is expected to miss four weeks after the surgery.

Insight: It was Calgary's only goal on the night, but fantasy owners do not mind. Wideman is off to a solid start offensively, with six total points, and those owners need to make sure he is in all lineups.

Insight: He had two assists and seven shots on goal, and now has eight points on the season. Yandle will continue to give solid production, from a fantasy standpoint.

Insight: He recorded an assist and was +4 on the evening. Suter has only four points thus far, but that number is bound to steadily increase.

Description: Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton played well in Saturday's win against Toronto.
Insight: With Zdeno Chara sidelined for the next 4-to-6 weeks, the Bruins need Hamilton to step up. He produced on Saturday with one goal and two assists, along with four shots and a +2 rating. It is a welcomed site for owners.

Insight: Hamilton and Dennis Seidenberg will have the first opportunity to be the Bruins top defensive pairing. Torey Krug and Adam McQuaid will be the second pair. Hamilton and Krug will also play on the power play Saturday night.

Insight: The St. Louis Blues released Whitney in training camp, so he signed with a Russian team in the KHL. Philadelphia lost two defensemen this week, so they are in dire need of some bodies. They will have to act quickly before Whitney plays a game in Russian, or he will have to go through waivers to return to the NHL.

Description: Ducks defenseman Sami Vatanen continued to shine on the power play on Friday against the Blue Jackets.
Insight: Vatanen assisted Corey Perry's power-play goal and then scored a man-advantage goal of his own. Vatanan has three goals and four assists on the season.

Insight: Barrie has a bad plus-minus to start the season at minus-seven but he has six points after the outburst on Friday.

Insight: The Philadelphia defense looks pretty thin. They already lost Kimmo Timonen and Braydon Coburn before MacDonald went down. MacDonald has a goal and two assists in 2014-2015.

Insight: Chara tore his posterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Thursday night versus the Islanders. Even at age 37, he is a huge part of the Bruins and his fantasy teams' defense. Chara will be greatly missed.

Description: Blues defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk scored his first goal of the season in Thursday's loss against the Canucks.
Insight: Shattenkirk scored on the power play to tie the game at the 7:38 mark of the second period. It was the only goal of the game for the Blues.

Description: Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall scored two goals and had an assist in the comeback victory over the Penguins on Thursday.
Insight: Kronwall scored with five minutes left in the first period to cut the Pittsburgh lead to one. The Penguins led, 3-1, until Henrik Zetterberg scored a nice goal in the slot to make it 3-2. With the net empty, Pavel Datsyuk dangled the puck in front of the Penguins net and passed it back to the blue line. Kronwall scored on a slap shot. Detroit won, 4-3, in overtime.

Description: Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara left Thursday's game against the Islanders with an undisclosed injury.
Insight: Chara left with 8:13 remaining in the first period, which was right after the captain nailed John Tavares. There was nothing noticably wrong on the replay. Chara has two goals, one assist and a minus-two rating after nine games.

Insight: Gudas has missed the past four games with the injury.

Insight: Visnovsky is 38-years-old and injuries have become a huge concern after playing just 24 games last season. A young Visnovsky could score 60 points a season, this older version, not so much.

Insight: Hamonic has just one goal and zero assists through the first six games and isn't a fantasy-worthy defenseman. The 38-year-old Lubomir Visnovsky, just back from injury himself, will take Hamonic's spot on the blue line.

Description: Flyers defenseman Mark Streit scored the first of five Philadelphia goals on Wednesday night against the Penguins.
Insight: Streit scored on a slapshot to tie the game at one. Streit also made a nice defensive play that possibly prevented a goal. Philadelphia scored three third period goals to win, 5-3. Streit was plus-two.

Insight: He had a goal and an assist, along with a +1 rating and nine shots on goal. It was Yandle's first goal of the season, and he now has six points overall. He will continue to be a solid fantasy option.

Description: Anaheim defenseman Sami Vatanen scored twice to earn the No. 1 star in Sunday's 3-0 win over St. Louis.
Insight: Vatanen's got five points this season, all of them on the power play. As long as he stays out there in man-advantage situations he will be a solid fantasy option.

Description: Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman is expected to miss 4-6 weeks due to a broken hand, according to Bob McKenzie. He was injured blocking a shot in the game against Vancouver on Saturday.
Insight: Hedman normally is paired with Anton Stralman, but Matthew Carle will likely take that spot. His points production (seven in five games, including five on the power play) will be missed by fantasy owners.

Description: Blackhawks defenseman Johnny Oduya scored his first goal of the season on Saturday against the Predators.
Insight: Oduya's goal was his only shot of the game. He scored at the 1:49 mark of the first period, and Chicago won the game in overtime, 2-1. Oduya was plus-two.

Description: Predators defenseman Shea Weber scored a power play goal on Saturday for his third score of the season.
Insight: Weber also had two penalty minutes, three shots and two hits. He has three goals, four points and a plus-five rating five games into the season.

Description: Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban scored two goals on three shots against the Avalanche on Saturday.
Insight: He also contributed two hits and two penalty minutes. Subban's first goal was a slap shot on the power play to tie the score at one at the beginning of the second period. To cap off three straight goals, Subban scored on a wrister at the 17:59 mark of the second.

Insight: The defense for Boston looked great on Saturday as three of the team's four goals came from defensemen. Chara had seven shots, one point and finished plus-two.

Description: Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton had a goal and assist on Saturday against the Sabres.
Insight: Boston finally played the way we expect them to all season. Even if it was against Buffalo, Boston was impressive, winning 4-0. Hamilton had his first goal of the season and finished plus-three.

Description: Islanders defenseman Thomas Hickey scored on a wrist shot in the first period against the Penguins, but New York lost, 3-1, on Saturday.
Insight: Hickey finished with a plus-one rating. The Islanders were trying to start the season, 5-0-0, for the first time in franchise history, but fell just short in a well fought game on the road in Pittsburgh.

Description: Stars defenseman Patrik Nemeth left Saturday's game against the Flyers with an arm injury.
Insight: Flyers forward R.J. Umberger lost his balance, which caused his skate to come up into the air and cut Nemeth's wrist. It is difficult to tell how serious the injury is, but there did not appear to be any blood on the ice. Nemeth will, however, not return against the Flyers.
