Description: New York traded first baseman Ike Davis to Pittsburgh Friday for right-hander Zack Thornton.
Insight: Take a hike, Ike. Davis hit a walkoff grand slam on April 5th but other than that, his season has been a disaster (.208, 1 HR, 5 RBI in 12 games). He might be an upgrade over the Pirates' current first baseman, Gaby Sanchez, but not by much.
4/5/2014 7:01:00 PM
Description: Mets first basemen Ike Davis hit a pinch-hit walk-off grand slam Saturday against the Reds.
Insight: Lucas Duda hit two homers and drove in all four runs for the Mets Friday after manager Terry Collins named him the starting first baseman over Davis, but Duda went 0-for-4 with three Ks Saturday. Neither player is a very exciting fantasy option.
3/25/2014 5:25:00 PM
Description: Mets first basemen Ike Davis and Lucas Duda will both be on the Opening Day roster, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN.
Insight: The Mets haven't announced who their first base starter will be. Davis has been limited to 2- at-bats this spring due to a calf injury and hit .250 with two home runs, while Duda has batted .200. Davis is the better player for fantasy purposes, though with Josh Satin expected to steal at-bats against lefties Davis should only be drafted in NL-only leagues.
2/12/2014 8:21:00 PM
Description: According to Newsday, Mets manager Terry Collins will try to get Ike Davis 80-100 at-bats this spring to try to avoid a slow start. Davis has averaged 56.3 at-bats in his three full spring trainings and is a career .225/.304/.697 hitter in the first half, compared to .267/.274/.869 in the second.
Insight: Davis batted .327 in 55 at-bats last spring, but it didn't carry over to the regular season. He hit .161 in 186 at-bats over the first 55 games of the season before being demoted to the minors. Davis batted .267 with four homers and an .872 OPS after being recalled a month later. He has the edge over Lucas Duda to be the Mets starting first baseman.
9/9/2013 8:09:00 PM
Description: Ike Davis' season officially ended Monday when the Mets placed him on the 60-day disabled list.
Insight: He's dealing with a strained oblique. The strikeout-prone slugger will finish the 2013 campaign with nine homers, 33 RBI and a .205 average in 103 games.
8/31/2013 8:53:00 PM
Description: Mets first baseman Ike Davis suffered a strained right oblique Saturday and is likely done for the season, according to Kevin Burkhardt of SNY.
Insight: Davis entered Saturday's game hitting .269 with 11 doubles, four homers, 16 RBI, 38 walks, 35 strikeouts and an .881 OPS in 47 games since returning from his exile to the minors. If Davis is indeed out for the year, he'll finish with a .205 average, nine home runs, 33 RBI and a .660 OPS in 377 plate appearances.
8/30/2013 10:12:00 PM
Description: Mets first baseman Ike Davis has had a major turnaround over the last month.
Insight: Davis was hitting .174 with a .542 OPS on July 27, but he has hit .296 with nine doubles, three homers, 27 walks and 19 strikeouts over his last 30 games. He went 1-for-3 with a homer and two RBI Friday night against the Nationals.
8/20/2013 10:31:00 PM
Description: Mets first baseman Ike Davis went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI Tuesday against the Braves.
Insight: In 40 games (31 starts) since returning from the minors, Davis is 31-for-110 (.282) with 10 doubles, three home runs, 13 RBI and a stellar 29/33 K/BB. He's batting .333 with six doubles, two homers and an 11/19 K/BB in August.
7/21/2013 12:06:00 PM
Description: For the third time in the last four games, New York first baseman Ike Davis is not in the starting lineup.
Insight: Josh Satin will get another start at first base. Davis probably wouldn't have done well anyway. He's just 1-for-11 in his career against Phillies starter Cliff Lee.
7/20/2013 11:15:00 AM
Description: Mets 1B Ike Davis is not in the lineup for Saturday afternoon's against the Phillies.
Insight: Davis spent nearly a month in the minors to work on his swing and batted .293 with seven homers and an 18/17 K/BB in 21 games down there, but it hasn't resulted in much improvement at the major league level. He's batting .233 with zero homers and two RBI in the nine games since his return.
7/9/2013 7:10:00 PM
Description: Ike Davis is not in the lineup Tuesday against San Francisco lefty Barry Zito.
Insight: Davis spent nearly a month in the minors to work on his swing and batted .293 with seven homers and an 18/17 K/BB in 21 games down there. This is the second time since being recalled that he hasn't started against a left-hander. The Mets will go with Josh Satin, who is swinging a hot bat, Tuesday.
7/6/2013 11:25:00 AM
Description: The New York Mets recalled Ike Davis on Friday and he returned with a bang, knocking out three hits, scoring twice and collecting two RBI.
Insight: Davis' successful return shouldn't overshadow the fact that he's hitless in seven tries versus Yovani Gallardo and should not be started on Saturday.
7/5/2013 6:03:00 PM
Description: The New York Mets recalled Ike Davis and have installed him back into the lineup. He'll bat in the cleanup spot.
Insight: Davis hit .293 with seven homers in 21 games since being demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas to work on his swing. He was batting .161 in 55 games with the Mets, who hope he can explode like he did in the second half last season.
7/3/2013 4:35:00 PM
Description: According to the New York Daily News, the Mets will not recall Ike Davis Wednesday.
Insight: The Mets were considering calling Davis up from the minors last week, but a string of several games against left-handed starters prevented the move. He'll remain in the minors for now but should be recalled within the next few weeks. Davis has hit .268 with six homers and an 18/17 K/BB in 20 games since being demoted to Triple-A Las Vegas to work on his swing.
6/27/2013 11:15:00 AM
Description: According to the New York Post, there is "no chance" Ike Davis will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas Thursday against Colorado.
Insight: The Mets are expected to face lefty starters four games in a row from June 29 to July 2 so the team will keep Davis in the minors, where he is hitting .306 with five homers and a 12/14 K/BB in 14 games.
6/23/2013 11:22:00 AM
Description: Ike Davis' return to the minor leagues might be short-lived. Adam Rubin from ESPN New York believes the first baseman could be back with the Mets sometime in the next week.
Insight: Davis has looked much better in his first 12 games for Triple-A Las Vegas, producing a .310 batting average in 42 at bats. Obviously, Davis has tons of power (32 HR for the Mets last season) but if he can't cut down on his strikeouts, he won't be able to help fantasy owners.
6/20/2013 8:58:00 PM
Description: According to, Mets manager Terry Collins said he believes Ike Davis is making progress with Triple-A Las Vegas.
Insight: Davis is trying to eliminate or at least lessen a pronounced hitch in his swing. "When he starts swinging good, that's when he'll be back," Collins said. "I don't have any date. And as I said when we sent him out, I don't think it's going to happen overnight. It's going to be a process of getting comfortable with what he's working on." The first baseman has struck out just once in his last 14 plate appearances with the 51s.
6/9/2013 9:21:00 PM
Description: The Mets have demoted first baseman Ike Davis to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Insight: Davis is hitting .161 with a .500 OPS in 207 plate appearances this season and will try to work out his issues in the minors. The first baseman had nearly identical numbers in his first 201 plate appearances last season -- .158, .507 OPS -- before batting .265 with 27 HR and a .913 OPS in his final 383 plate appearances, so he's not irredeemable.
6/2/2013 7:24:00 PM
Description: Mets first baseman Ike Davis ended his home run drought Sunday against the Marlins.
Insight: It was Davis' first home run since April 25th. It's obviously a step in the right direction for Davis (.168, 5 HR, 16 RBI) but he still has a long way to go if he's going to top his home run total from last season (32).
Cold5/28/2013 6:59:00 PM
Description: Mets first baseman Ike Davis is hitting eighth Tuesday against the Yankees.
Insight: The next step seemingly would be a demotion to the minors. Davis is hitting .155 with four homers and 57 strikeouts in 155 at-bats this season.
