As of today, you would have to rate Jonny Flynn as the third-best rookie.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Jonny Flynn had his best game of the season on Monday night, posting a "career-high" 28 points with five assists in just 29 minutes of work.
Flynn was the sixth overall pick in June, but a controversial one considering the team also drafted Spaniard Ricky Rubio, another point guard, with the fifth pick. Rubio chose to stay in Europe, giving Flynn a great opportunity to shine and he has done just that.
While the T-Wolves have struggled to a 4-21 start, the former Syracuse University guard has played well in the first 25 games of the season. He's averaging 14.2 ppg, 4.3 apg, 2.4 rpg and 1.2 spg.
Minnesota was hurt with injuries to their big men at the start of the season with center Al Jefferson working his way into playing shape following knee surgery and second-year forward Kevin Love recovering from a broken hand. The good news is that Jefferson has posted three consecutive 20+ point games and Love played his first game on Saturday.
The threat of those two inside players should help Flynn record better assist numbers while allowing him to improve on his 35.3% shooting from three-point range.
As of today, you would have to rate Flynn as the third-best rookie. Brandon Jennings of Milwaukee and Tyreke Evans of Sacramento rate above him, but both are seeing six-to-eight minutes more floor time than Flynn.
Even better news, while Jennings and Evans are owned in more than 85% of all leagues, Flynn is more likely to be available in your league since he's only owned in 69% of all leagues.
