Cliff Lee has been masterful from the day he left Cleveland for Philadelphia.
Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
Yogi Berra said it best when he said, "This is like deja vu all over again."
When the Philadelphia Phillies couldn't come to an agreement with the Toronto Blue Jays on Roy Halladay's worth, the defending World Series champions went for door No.2 - reigning AL Cy Young Award winner, Cliff Lee.
Lee has been masterful from the day he set foot on the mound for the Phillies. Actually, he finished up his Cleveland Indians career pretty well too, winning his final three games and yielding just four earned runs over 25 innings.
But following the July 29th deal, Lee has been spectacular.
Over his first four starts in the senior circuit, all wins, Lee has pitched 33 innings, yielding just 18 hits, six walks, three earned runs, while striking out 34 batters and completing two games. His ERA is a miniscule 0.82 and his WHIP is an equally impressive 0.727.
Lee, the 2008 AL Cy Young Award winner at 22-3, seems to have followed the lead which C.C. Sabathia blazed in 2008.
Like Lee, Sabathia was the returning AL Cy Young Award winner, who was traded to the National League from Cleveland and had great success. Sabathia made 17 starts for Milwaukee, going a stunning 11-2 with an ERA of 1.65 and a WHIP of 1.003.
It remains to be seen whether Lee can match those numbers, but he's certainly off to a great start.
Can Lee help you to a fantasy league championship? Only if you already have him on your roster or his current owner is out of the race in a keeper league and looking for future prospects.
