Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) -
Remember when New England Patriots receiver Kenbrell Thompkins was a sleeper only the most keyed in fantasy owners had heard of?
I do; it was last week.
But since the Internet got a hold of him, Thompkins' ADP has risen more quickly than it took Miley Cyrus to destroy her reputation.
Thompkins, a 25-year-old undrafted rookie out of Cincinnati, is currently being drafted in the seventh round of fantasyfootballcalculator.com mock drafts.
His ADP is 77.3 in 12-team standard leagues, 30th among receivers. Just two weeks ago, Thompkins' ADP was in the late 11th round.
The buzz had already started building by then, but expectations really exploded after Thompkins caught eight passes for 116 yards in New England's third preseason game Aug. 22 against Detroit.
Unfortunately, he is now severely overvalued.
With Danny Amendola, Zach Sudfeld, Aaron Dobson, Shane Vereen and eventually Rob Gronkowski on the field, Tom Brady is going to spread the ball around judiciously.
That's not to say Thompkins won't have a solid season or even that he won't post WR3 numbers, but there's a big difference between hoping he'll become a WR3 and needing him to be a WR3. At his current ADP, fantasy owners need him to be a WR3.
I'm not willing to bet that he will be. I'd be surprised if he approaches Brandon Lloyd's numbers -- 74 receptions, 911 yards, four touchdowns -- from 2012.
