Tampa Bay Buccaneers Player Notes
For The Last 365 Days

Doug Martin, RB6/10/2014 8:02:00 PM
Description: According to the Tampa Bay Times, Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith indicated Tuesday that he has a high opinion of running back Doug Martin but understands the need for more than one back.
Insight: Bucs OC Jeff Tedford said last week that he believes in alternating running backs. "I think you have to alternate,'' Tedford said. "Even when we had two 1,000-yard rushers (at California), J.J. Arrington was a 2,000-yard rusher and and we had a couple times guys had 1,000 yards apiece. But I don’t believe that one back can carry the load. It's just too physical. I think you probably need to have two to three guys to bring different things to the table. But I think you at least need to have two to be able to spell them here and there and keep them healthy and that type of thing." Bobby Rainey and Mike James both played well last season when Martin was out with a shoulder injury, and the team drafted receiving back Charles Sims in the third round this year. Martin saw 368 touches as a rookie and was on pace for 371 last year before his season-ending injury. He'll probably be closer to 300 this year.
Mike Glennon, QB5/21/2014 10:26:00 AM
Description: Despite early indications that Josh McCown would take over as the starter, Bucs QB Mike Glennon has "opened up some eyes" within the organization and could compete for the starting job. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Glennon (19 TD, 9 INT in 2013) did an admirable job last season filling in for Josh Freeman and he could have an even better year in 2014 with Mike Evans to throw to. With that said, head coach Lovie Smith has always been a big believer in the veteran McCown. It's unclear who will start Week 1 and it may not be until deep into training camp.
Doug Martin, RB5/19/2014 4:22:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers choice of West Virginia RB Charles Sims in the third round could take a bite out of starter Doug Martin's fantasy value, particularly his pass-catching numbers.
Insight: Sims is a excellent receiving back, who caught 203 passes for 2,108 and 11 touchdowns, in four years with the Mountaineers.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE5/9/2014 7:48:00 PM
Description: The Buccaneers picked tight end Austin Seferian-Jenkins with the 38th-overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Insight: Seferian-Jenkins was the second tight end taken after Eric Ebron. Tim Wright caught 54 passes for 571 yards and five touchdowns for Tampa Bay last year, but he's just 6-foot-3 and 220 pounds. The Bucs wanted more beef in the middle of the field and got it in the 6-5, 262-pound Seferian-Jenkins. Tampa Bay selected 6-5 receiver Mike Evans in the first round to pair with 6-5 Vincent Jackson, so Josh McCown is going to have some big targets to throw to in 2014.
Mike Evans, WR5/8/2014 9:00:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay has selected Texas A&M receiver Mike Evans with the seventh pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.
Insight: He gives the Buccaneers a second receiving threat opposite three-time Pro Bowler Vincent Jackson. Evans has excellent size and should be a solid target for Josh McCown in the red zone. He was the second Texas A&M player taken in the draft behind Jake Matthews, who was taken sixth overall by the Falcons.
Mike Williams, WR4/4/2014 12:38:00 PM
Description: The Buccaneers have traded wideout Mike Williams to Buffalo for a sixth-round pick.
Insight: Williams will join a receiving corps that features Stevie Johnson, Robert Woods, T.J. Graham and Marquise Goodwin. The trade reunites Williams with his college coach, Doug Marrone.
Mike Williams, WR3/24/2014 9:16:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers wideout Mike Williams was released from the hospital late Sunday night. SOURCE: Tampa Tribune
Insight: He was allegedly stabbed by his brother and the police are looking into the incident. As talented as Williams is, he's been nothing but trouble off the field and this strange incident could be the last straw for the Bucs. Don't be surprised if Tampa Bay decides to release the troubled wide receiver.
Mike Williams, WR3/23/2014 8:51:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay receiver Mike Williams was taken to the hospital Sunday after allegedly being stabbed by his brother. SOURCE: WTSP Tampa Bay
Insight: This is a developing story and we'll have more information as soon as it's available. Right now, all we know is that Williams is in the hospital being treated for a thigh wound. Stay tuned.
Josh McCown, QB3/12/2014 5:40:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay coach Lovie Smith already has named Josh McCown the starting quarterback for the 2014 season, according to Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times. The Buccaneers signed McCown away from the Bears on Wednesday.
Insight: Looks like the Mike Glennon era is over already. McCown had his best season as a pro in Marc Trestman's system last season, throwing for 1,829 yards, 13 TDs and one INT in eight games and posting a 109 QB rating. Smith's conservative offense won't allow McCown to duplicate that level of production.
Darrelle Revis, CB3/12/2014 3:46:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay has officially released cornerback Darrelle Revis. SOURCE: Mike Garafolo, Fox Sports 1
Insight: Things are about to get very interesting. At this point, New England looks like the favorite to land Revis though we can't rule out the Jets, Giants or even the Eagles just yet. Who knows, maybe the Browns and Raiders will find their way back into the mix. ESPN's John Clayton said on SportsCenter that Revis is looking for an annual salary of at least $12 million.
Josh McCown, QB3/12/2014 2:25:00 PM
Description: Josh McCown will be a Buccaneer in 2014.
Insight: The two sides reached a deal moments ago. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, it's a two-year agreement. This certainly isn't good news for Mike Glennon (19 TD, 83.9 rating last season).
Darrelle Revis, CB3/12/2014 10:46:00 AM
Description: Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports is hearing Darrelle Revis "would love to be a Patriot."
Insight: Revis also said he'd love to play for the Jets so who knows where he'll actually end up. For New England, adding Revis would certainly ease the pain of losing Aqib Talib. NESN's Doug Kyed reports the Patriots are also looking into free agent corners Antonio Cromartie and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.
Alterraun Verner, CB3/11/2014 9:25:00 PM
Description: Pro Bowl cornerback Alterraun Verner is headed to the Buccaneers, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Insight: Darrelle Revis, meet your replacement. Verner was a beast for the Titans last season, hauling in a career-high five interceptions and making the All-Pro team for the first time. The deal will pay Verner $26.5 million over the next four seasons.
Darrelle Revis, CB3/11/2014 8:53:00 PM
Description: Now that Tampa Bay cornerback Darrelle Revis has refused to take a pay cut, it's more likely he'll be released than traded. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL Network
Insight: The Browns and Raiders have both pulled out of the Revis sweepstakes. According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Revis is very open to returning to the Jets. He'll become the biggest free agent on the market as soon as the Buccaneers cut him.
Darrelle Revis, CB3/11/2014 6:49:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay will release cornerback Darrelle Revis if he is not traded before Wednesday at 4 p.m. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: It looks like this is really happening. Revis is due a $1.5 million roster bonus on Thursday and the Buccaneers have no intention of paying it. So far, the Raiders and Browns have shown the most interest.
Eric Page, WR3/11/2014 4:18:00 PM
Description: The Bucs have re-signed WR/KR Eric Page.
Insight: Page caught just four balls for 68 yards, but returned 23 punts and 22 kickoffs for 799 yards. He doesn't figure to have any more fantasy value next season as he did last season.
Darrelle Revis, CB3/10/2014 8:55:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay is exploring trade options for star cornerback Darrelle Revis. SOURCE: Alex Marvez, Fox Sports
Insight: Revis is costing the Buccaneers an absurd amount of money ($16 million a season) but it's hard to believe they'd be willing to trade their best player after he arrived in Tampa less than a year ago. The 28-year-old is set to earn a $1.5 million roster bonus later this week.
Vincent Jackson, WR12/22/2013 11:37:00 AM
Description: As expected, Tampa Bay receiver Vinny Jackson is ready to go Sunday against the Rams.
Insight: Its been about a month since Jackson put up a big game, but the fantasy finals would be a great time for him to break out of the slump. The Rams pass defense is ranked 27th.
Vincent Jackson, WR12/20/2013 9:58:00 AM
Description: Tampa Bay receiver Vinny Jackson was a full participant in practice Thursday and will be ready to go Sunday against the Rams.
Insight: Its been about a month since Jackson put up a big game, but the fantasy finals would be a great time for him to break out of the slump.
Vincent Jackson, WRCold12/15/2013 12:03:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay receiver Vinny Jackson is ready to go in Week 15 versus the 49ers.
Insight: Its been about a month since Jackson put up a big game, but he doesn't figure to breakout against the tough 49ers defense.
Vincent Jackson, WR12/13/2013 12:30:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay receiver Vinny Jackson will practice for a third straight day with a limited tag, but is probable for Week 15.
Insight: its been about a month since Jackson put up a big game and he doesn't figure to breakout against the tough 49ers defense.
Bobby Rainey, RB12/8/2013 7:14:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay running back Bobby Rainey pounded his way to 127 rushing yards in Sunday's win over Buffalo.
Insight: Rainey opened the game with an 80-yard touchdown burst and was able to coast after that. The Western Kentucky product is averaging 97 rushing ypg over his last four contests. He'll be a flex option next week against the Niners.
Vincent Jackson, WR12/8/2013 10:55:00 AM
Description: Tampa Bay receiver Vinny Jackson should be a go for Sunday's game against Buffalo. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL Network
Insight: He's listed on the injury report as questionable with a leg injury. Jackson needs just 37 more yards for his third consecutive 1,000-yard season. Jackson is a must-start whenever he's active.
Vincent Jackson, WR12/5/2013 11:52:00 AM
Description: Bucs receiver Vincent Jackson missed Wednesday's practice, but we believe it was a day off, not a injury to be concerned about.
Insight: Jackson is listed as having a hamstring problem, but its nothing for fantasy owners to worry about. he hasn't scored in a couple of weeks, but has a decent matchup against Buffalo.
Darrelle Revis, CB12/1/2013 10:46:00 AM
Description: Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis (groin) will play Sunday against Carolina, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Insight: Revis strained his groin last week against the Lions. He'll likely cover Steve Smith, who has zero 100-yard games this season and hasn't scored a touchdown since Oct. 20. Smith is a low-end WR3.
Darrelle Revis, CB11/29/2013 3:59:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis practiced in a limited capacity on Friday. SOURCE: Rick Stroud, Tampa Bay Times
Insight: Revis strained his groin last week against the Lions. He'll be a game-time call Sunday versus the Panthers.
Tim Wright, TE11/27/2013 5:05:00 PM
Description: According to Pat Yasinskas of espn.com, Buccaneers tight end Tim Wright is going to get every chance to be an every-down player with Tom Crabtree, Luke Stocker and Nate Byham all on injured reserve.
Insight: Wright had 106 yards and two scores on nine catches in Weeks 8-9 but he followed that up with two catches total in Weeks 10-11. He had eight catches and 75 yards on nine targets in his most recent game. He should be a top-15 tight end for the rest of the season.
Darrelle Revis, CB11/24/2013 3:13:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay CB Darrelle Revis is out for the rest of the game with an injured groin. SOURCE: CBS Sports
Insight: Revis had been covering top Lions wideout Calvin Johnson. Now that responsibility falls on Leonard Johnson.
Dashon Goldson, S11/18/2013 8:47:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay safety Dashon Goldson has been handed a one-game suspension for his hit on Falcons wideout Roddy White on Sunday. SOURCE: Chris Mortensen, ESPN
Insight: It's the second time this year he's been suspended, though the last one was overturned on appeal. Goldson, who will appeal again, may not be so lucky this time around. The Buccaneers' next game is against Detroit.
Vincent Jackson, WR11/17/2013 4:56:00 PM
Description: Bucs receiver Vincent Jackson pulled in 165 yards and a touchdown on 10 catches Sunday against the Falcons.
Insight: Jackson must have been itching to take another crack at the Atlanta secondary after thrashing them for 138 yards and two touchdowns in Week 7. He was coming off a few quiet games but now has 56 catches, 827 yards and five touchdowns this season.
Bobby Rainey, RB11/17/2013 4:54:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers running back Bobby Rainey didn't look like a third-stringer Sunday against Atlanta.
Insight: Rainey, who was waived by the Cleveland Browns earlier this season, took 30 handoffs for 163 yards and two touchdowns and also caught a touchdown. It's clear that Bucs coach Greg Schiano prefers to use one running back rather than a committee, as he heavily featured Doug Martin and Mike James before they suffered season-ending injuries. Now it's Rainey's turn.
Mike Glennon, QB11/17/2013 4:51:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay QB Mike Glennon completed 20-of-23 passes for 231 yards and two scores Sunday against the Falcons.
Insight: Glennon has had his two best games of the season against the Falcons. He has 11 passing touchdowns and four interceptions in seven games since taking over as the starter.
Vincent Jackson, WR11/17/2013 12:23:00 PM
Description: Bucs receiver Vincent Jackson has been dealing with a sore knee, but as expected, he is active for Sunday's game with Atlanta.
Insight: It's been Week 7 since Jackson helped fantasy owners, but he could get back to that in Week 11 versus Atlanta as coach Greg Schiano said he wanted to get him the ball more often.
Mike James, RB11/12/2013 5:47:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay halfback Mike James will miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken ankle on Monday Night Football. SOURCE: Mike Stroud, Tampa Bay Times
Insight: James put together an excellent opening drive on Monday night, rushing five times for 41 yards before the injury. With Doug Martin also out, the Buccaneers will have to use a running back by committee featuring Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey. Neither player will be worth picking up on waivers this week.
Mike James, RB11/11/2013 9:19:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers running back Mike James left Monday's game against Miami with a left ankle injury and is out for the rest of the night.
Insight: James got off to a fast start, rushing for 41 yards on the first drive, but he suffered the injury on the one-yard line when Miami LB Dannell Ellerbe came down on his ankle. Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey will split the workload for the rest of the game.
Mike James, RB11/11/2013 8:55:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers running back Mike James was carted off the field with a left leg injury Monday night.
Insight: James got off to a fast start, rushing for 41 yards on the first drive, but he suffered the injury after being stopped on the 1-yard line.
Dashon Goldson, S11/11/2013 10:58:00 AM
Description: Bucs free safety Dashon Goldson (knee) is probable for Monday's game against Miami.
Insight: He missed the last two weeks. It would certainly help the secondary cover Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline if he returns.
Chris Owusu, WR11/11/2013 10:56:00 AM
Description: Tampa Bay backup receiver Chris Owusu is doubtful for Monday's game against Miami with a foot injury.
Insight: Owusuhas six catches and doesn't figure to be of any fantasy value this season even when healthy. Even with Mike Williams done for the season he's behind Tiquan Underwood on the depth chart.
Tim Wright, TEHot11/11/2013 10:53:00 AM
Description: Buccaneers tight end Tim Wright caught a touchdown for the second straight game in Week 9 at Seattle and has posted double-digit fantasy points over his last two games.
Insight: Wright is averaging six targets per game over the last four. He's become Mike Glennon's No. 2 target behind Vincent Jackson with Mike Williams out for the season.
Doug Martin, RB11/8/2013 4:42:00 PM
Description: The Buccaneers have opted to place Doug Martin (shoulder) on injured reserve.
Insight: That means Mike James will keep the running back job the rest of the season. After an impressive rookie year that led to him getting drafted as a top-five fantasy pick this year, Martin disappointed despite getting a huge workload. He'll finish with 456 rushing yards on 127 carries (3.6 ypc), 66 receiving yards on 12 receptions and one total touchdown in six games.
Doug Martin, RB11/6/2013 5:20:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers halfback Doug Martin (shoulder) didn't practice Wednesday.
Insight: According to ESPN.com, Tampa Bay coach Greg Schiano said Martin will only play again this season if team doctors believe the running back won't be subject to further damage to his injured shoulder. Mike James is a RB2 Monday against Miami after breaking out against Seattle in Week 9.
Tim Wright, TE11/3/2013 7:28:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers tight end Tim Wright caught a touchdown for the second straight game Sunday at Seattle.
Insight: Wright has a chance to be Mike Glennon's No. 2 target behind Vincent Jackson with Mike Williams out for the season. He should be a top-15 tight end the rest of the season.
Mike James, RB11/3/2013 7:23:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers rookie running back Mike James had 158 rushing yards on 28 carries and also threw a two-yard touchdown pass Sunday at Seattle.
Insight: James only saw 10 carries in his first NFL start in Week 8 as Carolina controlled the clock, but he was heavily featured in Week 9. If Doug Martin (shoulder) is out again in Week 10 against Miami, fantasy owners can start James as RB2. The Seahawks have allowed 125-yard rushing games to a rookie running back in two straight weeks, which bodes well for Steven Jackson going into his Week 10 matchup with Seattle.
Dashon Goldson, S11/2/2013 7:09:00 PM
Description: Bucs free safety Dashon Goldson (knee) won't be available Sunday against Seattle. SOURCE: Scott Smith, Buccaneers.com
Insight: He missed last week's game as well. If all goes as planned, we could see Goldson back as soon as Week 10 against the Dolphins.
Tiquan Underwood, WR10/28/2013 11:50:00 AM
Description: Tampa Bay wideout Tiquan Underwood should get most of the playing time that is available due to Mike Williams' season-ending torn hamstring.
Insight: Underwood caught three balls on four targtets for 47 yards last week. Take a wait and see attitude toward Underwood, Vincent Jackson is the only fantasy-worthy Bucs receiver at this time.
Mike Williams, WR10/28/2013 11:46:00 AM
Description: Buccaneers wideout Mike Williams has been placed on the injured reserve with a torn hamstring.
Insight: Williams' season is now over. He'll finish with 22 catches for 216 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Tiquan Underwood should be the primary beneficiary.
Mike Williams, WR10/25/2013 7:29:00 PM
Description: According to Ira Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune, Buccaneers wideout Mike Williams says he has a torn hamstring.
Insight: The Tampa Bay Times reported earlier Friday that the team was "concerned" about the injury and whether he would be able to continue playing. It could be season-ending for Williams, which would leave receivers Tiquan Underwood and Chris Owusu and tight end Tim Wright as the team's secondary receiving options behind Vincent Jackson. None of those players need to be added in fantasy leagues.
Mike Williams, WR10/25/2013 5:19:00 PM
Description: According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, the Buccaneers are "concerned" about Mike Williams' hamstring injury.
Insight: Per Stroud, the team doesn't know if Williams will be able to continue playing. Williams has been playing on the injury for several weeks and has just 52 yards on seven catches over the last two games after missing Week 6. Tiquan Underwood, Chris Owusu and Tim Wright would be in line for an expanded role in Williams' absence, but none of them need to be added in fantasy leagues.
Doug Martin, RB10/24/2013 7:34:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers halfback Doug Martin is hoping to return from his shoulder injury in Week 10. SOURCE: Ian Rapoport, NFL.com
Insight: A few days ago it looked like Martin would be out for the season. Now he might only miss two weeks. Mike James will get most of the carries out of Tampa Bay's backfield Thursday night against Carolina.
Mike Williams, WR10/24/2013 7:19:00 PM
Description: Bucs wideout Mike Williams is in the lineup Thursday against the Panthers.
Insight: Williams was questionable with a hamstring injury. So far, he's been a disappointment with just 19 catches and 196 receiving yards in five games.
Mike Williams, WR10/23/2013 6:12:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers receiver Mike Williams (hamstring) is questionable for Thursday's game against the Panthers.
Insight: Williams played Sunday against the Falcons and had four catches for 32 yards after missing Week 6, but the short week isn't doing him any favors. QB Mike Glennon has targeted Vincent Jackson 47 times in three games as the starter, so Williams can be benched even if he plays Thursday.
Doug Martin, RB10/23/2013 5:54:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin (shoulder) has officially been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Panthers.
Insight: Martin and coach Greg Schiano have said this week that the running back's torn labrum is not a season-ending injury, but he'll at least have to miss one game. Rookie Mike James will start against Carolina and could see 20 carries given Schiano's preference to run a one-back system. James saw 14 carries Sunday at Atlanta even though Martin suffered his injury in the third quarter.
Doug Martin, RB10/22/2013 7:17:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin reiterated Tuesday what coach Greg Schiano said Monday: that his shoulder injury isn't necessarily season ending. SOURCE: Roy Cummings, Tampa Tribune.
Insight: Martin says the pain in his shoulder has decreased and his range of motion has improved in the last couple of days. Rookie Mike James is expected to start Thursday against the Panthers and should see 20 carries considering Tampa Bay's other options.
Mike James, RB10/22/2013 11:16:00 AM
Description: Buccaneers rookie running back Mike James will be the team's primary running back for the forseeable future.
Insight: Doug Martin may or may not be done for the season with a shoulder injury, but James will likely be the only fantasy option for a while. Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey are not viable alternatives. James rushed the ball 14 times for 45 yards against Atlanta in a replacement role.
Doug Martin, RB10/21/2013 10:01:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay halfback Doug Martin has been diagnosed with a torn labrum in his left shoulder. SOURCE: Albert Breer, NFL Network
Insight: Head coach Greg Schiano refuted a report that the injury would be season-ending though it looks like the Bucs will be without their top running back for the forseeable future. His backup, rookie Mike James, has logged just 17 carries in his first five NFL games.
Bobby Rainey, RB10/21/2013 9:08:00 PM
Description: Former Browns halfback Bobby Rainey has caught on with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Insight: Cleveland waived Rainey on Friday. He'll back up starter Mike James while Doug Martin is out with a torn labrum.
Doug Martin, RB10/21/2013 10:55:00 AM
Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin exited Sunday's game against Atlanta with a shoulder injury and left the stadium with his arm in a sling.
Insight: X-rays came back negative, but more tests will likely follow and his availability for Thursday's game with Carolina is definitely in doubt. Mike James is Martin's backup.
Mike James, RB10/20/2013 5:19:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers rookie running back Mike James had 14 carries for 45 yards Sunday against Atlanta.
Insight: James took over for Doug Martin after Martin hurt his shoulder in the third quarter. If Martin has to miss Thursday's game against the Panthers, James would likely see 20 carries.
Vincent Jackson, WRHot10/20/2013 5:08:00 PM
Description: Bucs receiver Vincent Jackson had his second straight 100-yard, two-TD game Sunday at Atlanta.
Insight: Jackson caught 10 passes for 138 yards and two scores on a whopping 22 targets in the game. Mike Glennon has looked Jackson's way 47 times in his three starts.
Doug Martin, RB10/20/2013 2:54:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin left Sunday's game against Atlanta with an apparent shoulder injury.
Insight: Martin retreated to the locker room early in the third quarter after landing on his left shoulder. Mike James is Martin's backup.
Mike Williams, WR10/18/2013 1:37:00 AM
Description: Tampa Bay receiver Mike Williams (hamstring) practiced Friday and is expected to play Sunday against Atlanta.
Insight: Williams owners missed out on a big opportunity against the Eagles last week, but should be a low end WR3 this week.
Mike Williams, WR10/13/2013 11:42:00 AM
Description: Tampa Bay receiver Mike Williams (hamstring) missed practice Friday and is inactive for Sunday's matchup with Philadelphia.
Insight: Williams owners were salivating about getting him on the field against a porous Eagles defense, but that won't happen. Vincent Jackson should see a huge number of targets.
Carl Nicks, G10/13/2013 10:57:00 AM
Description: ESPN's Adam Schefter doesn't expect Tampa Bay left guard Carl Nicks to play Sunday versus the Eagles.
Insight: Nicks has had a recurrence of a staph infection that caused him to miss time earlier in the season. Nicks is one of three Buccaneers currently dealing with MRSA.
Mike Williams, WR10/11/2013 1:56:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay receiver Mike Williams (hamstring) missed another day of practice, according to beat reporter Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.
Insight: Williams owners are salivating about getting him on the field against a porous Eagles defense. We still expect him to play, but its worth checking back before kickoff to verify that he's in the lineup.
Josh Freeman, QB10/3/2013 3:08:00 PM
Description: The Buccaneers finally parted ways with quarterback Josh Freeman on Thursday. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: It appears Freeman will hit the free agent market a bit earlier than expected. It's an embarrassing end to what once looked like a promising chapter in the Buccaneers' history. Freeman shouldn't have trouble catching on with another team but finding a starting job, especially after what has transpired over the last month, won't be as easy to come by.
Tiquan Underwood, WR10/1/2013 12:03:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay will sign Tiquan Underwood, who was in the Bucs training camp, but lost the battle against just-released Kevin Ogletree.
Insight: Underwood will have to beat out Chris Owusu, just up from the practice squad, to earn the third receiver role and see some targets.
Vincent Jackson, WR9/29/2013 6:28:00 PM
Description: Bucs receiver Vincent Jackson (ribs) drew 11 throws from Mike Glennon Sunday but had just two catches for 27 yards.
Insight: Jackson was a game-time decision with a rib injury that will reportedly take five weeks to heal. Tampa Bay has had major quarterback issues this season and Jackson has only 17 receptions for 292 yards in four games.
Doug Martin, RB9/29/2013 6:24:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin saw a huge workload of 30 touches Sunday against Arizona but averaged just 2.03 yards per touch.
Insight: Martin rushed for 45 yards on 27 carries (he had a long gain of 12, so his other 26 carries went for 33 yards) and had three catches for 16 yards. He came in averaging nearly 100 rushing yards per game. The second-year back is on pace for an astounding 428 touches this season.
Josh Freeman, QB9/29/2013 1:43:00 PM
Description: Josh Freeman wants out of Tampa Bay at all costs. He's open to being released if the Buccaneers can't find a trade partner in the near future. SOURCE: Jay Glazer, Fox Sports
Insight: Freeman has fallen behind Mike Glennon and Dan Orlovsky on the team's quarterback depth chart. It appears that Freeman, who was set to become a free agent anyway after the season, has played his final game as a Buccaneer.
Mike Williams, WR9/29/2013 11:46:00 AM
Description: Tampa Bay receiver Mike Williams (hamstring) is active for Sunday's game against the Cardinals.
Insight: Both Williams and Vincent Jackson (rib) were questionable but will play, so rookie QB Mike Glennon will have all his weapons available in his first NFL start. Williams is a WR3.
Vincent Jackson, WR9/29/2013 11:45:00 AM
Description: According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Buccaneers receiver Vincent Jackson (ribs) will play through his injury Sunday against the Cardinals.
Insight: Rapoport reported earlier Sunday that Jackson's injury will take five weeks to fully heal and the team was considering sitting him through its Week 5 bye. Jackson has several factors working against him Sunday; namely, the injury, a rookie quarterback making his first NFL start and a matchup with Patrick Peterson. Consider him a low-end WR2.
Josh Freeman, QBCold9/29/2013 11:29:00 AM
Description: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman is inactive Sunday against Arizona.
Insight: If there was any doubt that Freeman is done in Tampa Bay, this should erase it. Bucs coach Greg Schiano doesn't even want him as a second-stringer Sunday.
Vincent Jackson, WR9/29/2013 9:50:00 AM
Description: According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, Buccaneers receiver Vincent Jackson (ribs) is pushing to play Sunday, but the team is considering sitting him out through its Week 5 bye.
Insight: Rapoport reports that Jackson's injury will take five weeks to fully heal. Jackson is deciding whether or not to take a pain-killing shot to play Sunday against the Cardinals. He'll be a game-time decision and is a risky fantasy option with rookie Mike Glennon making his first NFL start.
Vincent Jackson, WR9/27/2013 6:20:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay receivers Vincent Jackson (ribs) and Mike Williams (hamstring) both had a limited practice Friday.
Insight: ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday that Jackson's injury is "not considered serious," but Jackson didn't practice until Friday and is questionable for Week 4 against Arizona. Jackson will be playing against cornerback Patrick Peterson and hasn't had much time to work with rookie QB Mike Glennon, who is making his first NFL start, but he'll still be a top-20 receiving option if he plays.
Mike Williams, WR9/26/2013 2:29:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay receiver Mike Williams (hamstring) missed a second straight practice Thursday, according to PewterReport.com.
Insight: Both Williams and Vincent Jackson (rib) are questionable for Week 4 against the Cardinals. If both receivers miss the game, Arizona's defense will be a viable fantasy option with rookie Mike Glennon making his first NFL start.
Vincent Jackson, WR9/26/2013 2:24:00 PM
Description: According to Buccaneers blog PewterReport.com, Tampa Bay receiver Vincent Jackson (rib) didn't practice Thursday.
Insight: ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Monday that Jackson's injury is "not considered serious," but Jackson hasn't returned to practice yet. He's questionable for Week 4. With Mike Williams also questionable with a hamstring injury, rookie QB Mike Glennon might not have anyone to throw the football to in his first NFL start.
Josh Freeman, QBCold9/25/2013 7:31:00 PM
Description: When discussing quarterback Josh Freeman's trade value, ESPN's Chris Mortensen said the Buccaneers would probably "take anything for him at this point."
Insight: Freeman's trade value has never been lower. Not only has he been a distraction in the locker room with his immaturity but he's also statistically been one of the worst quarterbacks in the league this season. Freeman, who will become a free agent this offseason, is owed $8.43 million in 2013. Several teams in need of a quarterback including Cleveland and Jacksonville have already said they aren't interested.
Mike Glennon, QB9/25/2013 10:05:00 AM
Description: Mike Glennon, the third-round selection from North Carolina State, will make his first career NFL start Sunday against Arizona.
Insight: Glennon replaces an ineffective and regressing Josh Freeman who completed less than 46 percent of his passes in the first three games. The change may hurt the fantasy value of wideouts Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams and help running back Doug Martin.
Josh Freeman, QBCold9/25/2013 9:59:00 AM
Description: Tampa Bay QB Josh Freeman has been benched in favor of rookie backup Mike Glennon.
Insight: Freeman's completion percentage is a career-worst 45.7 with two touchdowns and three interceptions. His 59.3 quarterback rating through three games is equally disheartening. Glennon can hardly do worse.
Jeff Demps, RB9/24/2013 11:16:00 AM
Description: United States Olympic sprinter and former Florida Gators running back Jeff Demps has been activated.
Insight: Demps should become the team's kick returner. Eric Page has done a decent job as the returner, but he's not as explosive as Demps.
Vincent Jackson, WR9/23/2013 3:13:00 PM
Description: Bucs coach Greg Schiano said it was "too early to tell" if wideout Vincent Jackson would be ready to go for Week 4 against Arizona.
Insight: Jackson has 15 receptions for 265 yards throught he first three games this season, but has yet to find the end zone. If he's unavailable, Mike Williams' fantasy value gets a raise.
Josh Freeman, QBCold9/22/2013 6:30:00 PM
Description: Josh Freeman has been pitiful this season. After going 19-for-41 on Sunday, his completion percentage now sits at 45.7 for the season.
Insight: His 59.3 quarterback rating through three games is equally disheartening. Tampa Bay is off to a nightmare start and with three more games against Atlanta and New Orleans (not to mention a date with powerhouse San Francisco in Week 15), it doesn't look like things are going to get much better. At this point, blowing it up Cleveland Browns style might be the way to go.
Vincent Jackson, WR9/22/2013 3:05:00 PM
Description: Vincent Jackson is on the sideline being attended to by one of the Buccaneers' trainers. It looks like he's dealing with a rib injury. SOURCE: Erin Andrews, Fox Sports
Insight: His return is questionable. So far, Jackson has only caught three passes for 34 yards. Mike Williams has been Josh Freeman's most targeted receiver today (seven targets).
Peyton Hillis, RB9/21/2013 4:20:00 PM
Description: The Buccaneers cut backup running back Peyton Hillis loose on Saturday. SOURCE: Jason La Canfora, CBS Sports
Insight: He hasn't played a single down of football this season. Hillis is only three seasons removed from a 1,177 yard/11 touchdown campaign but with all the injuries he's suffered since then, he may not have much left in the tank.
Dashon Goldson, S9/18/2013 11:06:00 AM
Description: Tampa Bay safety Dashon Goldson, who had been handed a one-game ban for his hit on Saints running back Darren Sproles in Week 2, has won his appeal and will be allowed to play in Week 3. Instead, he'll pay a $100,000 fine.
Insight: Goldson's return will make it tougher for the struggling Patriots passing game to rebound from their poor performance last week.
Dashon Goldson, S9/16/2013 9:21:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay safety Dashon Goldson has been handed a one-game ban for his hit on Saints running back Darren Sproles in Week 2.
Insight: He initiated a helmet-to-helmet collision, which is something the league has been trying to crack down on in recent seasons. Goldson says that he will appeal the suspension.
Josh Freeman, QB9/15/2013 11:28:00 AM
Description: According to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com, there is a "growing disconnect" and "some real tension" between Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano and Josh Freeman.
Insight: Freeman is not happy that Schiano publicly revealed that he was late for a team photo and the captain vote. At this point it's clear the team doesn't consider Freeman its QB of the future. The Bucs didn't offer him a contract extension and drafted Mike Glennon in the 2013 NFL Draft after Freeman completed just 54.8 percent of his passes and threw nine picks in the final three games.
Dashon Goldson, S9/13/2013 6:57:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers safety Dashon Goldson received a $30,000 fine for his hit on Jets tight end Jeff Cumberland in Week 1. SOURCE: Pat Yasinkas, ESPN
Insight: The league is trying to discourage head-hunting, which is why they are making an example out of Goldson. The two-time Pro Bowler had seven tackles in the opener.
Josh Freeman, QB9/12/2013 3:41:00 PM
Description: According to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Buccaneers coach Greg Schiano said QB Josh Freeman overslept and missed a team meeting last Monday and has been late for other things.
Insight: Freeman says he overslept for the team photo. That's not how you get on Schiano's good side. Tampa Bay did not give Freeman a contract extension, forcing him into a prove-it season, and he also was not voted as a team captain by his teammates. If Freeman's play doesn't improve, rookie Mike Glennon could be under center by midseason.
Vincent Jackson, WR9/8/2013 6:20:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers receiver Vincent Jackson was targeted 13 times Sunday against the Jets and finished with seven receptions for 154 yards.
Insight: As expected, Jackson played often in the slot which is something he didn't do previously in his career. That should help him see more than the 147 targets he had in 2012.
Mike Williams, WR9/8/2013 6:18:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay receiver Mike Williams had 52 yards and a touchdown on four catches Sunday against the Jets.
Insight: It's a familiar stat line for fantasy owners. Williams averaged 62.3 yards and 3.9 catches per game last season while hauling in nine touchdowns.
Carl Nicks, G9/7/2013 6:28:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers left guard Carl Nicks (toe) will miss Sunday's game against the Jets.
Insight: Nicks had a staph infection during the preseason and is still recovering. One of the top left guards in football, Nicks missed nine games last season with a toe injury but it didn't prevent Doug Martin from having a fantastic season.
Darrelle Revis, CB9/7/2013 12:03:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis has been cleared to play Week 1 against the Jets.
Insight: Revis tore his ACL in Week 3 last season. The cornerback will join a Bucs team that had the No. 1 rush defense in the NFL but allowed the most passing yards in the league last season.
Carl Nicks, G8/22/2013 8:29:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers left guard Carl Nicks is out with a staph infection. SOURCE: Chris Mortensen, ESPN
Insight: Teammate Lawrence Tynes has the same infection. Let's hope it doesn't spread to other players in the locker room.
Lawrence Tynes, K8/22/2013 4:03:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers kicker Lawrence Tynes had toe surgery this week to remove a staph infection and is out indefinitely. SOURCE: Chris Mortensen, ESPN
Insight: The Bucs have signed former Bills kicker Rian Lindell to stand in for Tynes. They only brought in Tynes because Connor Barth suffered a season-ending Achilles injury playing basketball this offseason.
Darrelle Revis, CB8/20/2013 12:03:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis is a full participant in practice and is on schedule play in Week 1 against his former teammates, the Jets.
Insight: Revis tore his ACL a little less than a year ago. Assuming he hasn't lost a step, Revis should be one of the most feared corners in the game and make the Bucs' pass defense, which gave up a league-worst 4,758 yards last season, much better.
Carl Nicks, G8/19/2013 9:20:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay left guard Carl Nicks is expected to miss about a month with an infected toe. SOURCE: Adam Schefter, ESPN
Insight: Nicks dealt with toe problems last season also. We wouldn't expect him to play Week 1 against the Jets.
Doug Martin, RB8/19/2013 1:45:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin participated in non-contact drills on Monday but that was just precautionary, according to the team's website. He'll likely be a full participant on Tuesday.
Insight: Martin is set for another huge season of running and receiving and this hiccup shouldn't change anything. Fantasy owners who had already drafted him and were holding their breath as the top-five pick went down due to a knee in the head, may now exhale.
Mike James, RB8/17/2013 12:09:00 PM
Description: Rookie running back Mike James (sixth round pick from Florida) posted 81 yards on 15 carries against New England in the Bucs' second exhibition game.
Insight: James is expected to beat out Michael Smith (no carries) and Peyton Hillis (18-for-73) for the backup role to Doug Martin.
Doug Martin, RB8/17/2013 9:02:00 AM
Description: Buccaneers running back Doug Martin said he passed all his concussion tests and could have returned to Friday night's game against the Patriots if the team needed him.
Insight: Fantasy owners who have already drafted and were holding their breath as the top-five pick went down, may now exhale. Hopefully the Bucs' coaches will teach him how to pass block without using his head. Martin is set for another huge season of running and receiving.
Doug Martin, RB8/16/2013 10:38:00 PM
Description: The Buccaneers' official update on running back Doug Martin wasn't really an update at all. They just said he took a "hard hit" and is out, according to Gregg Rosenthal of NFL.com.
Insight: Martin took a knee to the head during Friday's preseason game against New England while trying to pass block. We should have more information tomorrow. If he doesn't have a concussion this shouldn't be a serious concern.
Doug Martin, RB8/16/2013 9:22:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay running back Doug Martin left Friday's preseason game after taking a knee to the head while trying to pass protect.
Insight: It's unknown if Martin suffered a concussion on the play, but if he didn't this shouldn't be a major concern. The team should have updates tonight or tomorrow.
Dallas Clark, TE8/11/2013 4:06:00 PM
Description: According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, free agent tight end Dallas Clark could have a new team by the end of this week.
Insight: Signing with the Ravens, who are now without starter Dennis Pitta (broken hip) and backup Ed Dickson (torn hamstring), would make the most sense. Clark reeled in 435 receiving yards in 16 games for the Buccaneers last season.
Peyton Hillis, RB8/9/2013 1:22:00 PM
Description: Bucs running back Peyton Hillis suffered a hyperextended knee which the team called a "minor injury," according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Insight: Doug Martin is locked in as the feature back, both running and receiving, in Tampa Bay. Hillis will have to have a strong preseason just to make the roster and beat out Mike James and Brian Leonard for the backup role to Martin.
Chris Owusu, WR8/9/2013 1:21:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay backup receiver Chris Owusu sprained his ankle in the team's first preseason game Thursday.
Insight: Owusu caught just one pass in 2012-13 and doesn't figure to be of any fantasy value this season with Vincent Jackson, Mike Williams and Kevin Ogletree in front of him.
Luke Stocker, TE8/7/2013 2:35:00 PM
Description: Tampa Bay tight end Luke Stocker has missed the first two weeks of camp with a calf injury, but is still a viable option to start Week 1.
Insight: Stocker has never caught more than 16 passes for 165 yards, but was always playing in a backup role (Kellen Winslow, Dallas Clark). He's the starter this season and should produce much more fantasy-worthy results, though probably not at a starter's level.
Darrelle Revis, CB8/5/2013 8:12:00 PM
Description: Buccaneers cornerback Darrelle Revis should be a go for Week 1 against the Jets. SOURCE: Sports Illustrated
Insight: Revis tore his ACL a little less than a year ago and is almost back to full strength. Assuming he hasn't lost a step, Revis should continue to be one of the most feared corners in the game.
Mike Williams, WR8/2/2013 9:48:00 PM
Description: Bucs receiver Mike Williams strained his hamstring in practice on Friday. SOURCE: Tampa Bay Times
Insight: Head coach Greg Schiano dismissed the injury as minor and it's possible Williams could return to practice later this weekend.
