Lazor named Dolphins' offensive coordinator

Davie, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - The Miami Dolphins have filled their offensive coordinator vacancy, hiring Philadelphia Eagles quarterbacks coach Bill Lazor on Wednesday.

Lazor joins head coach Joe Philbin's staff following a successful one-year run under Chip Kelly in Philadelphia, where he oversaw the emergence of young quarterback Nick Foles into the NFL's top-rated passer.

Under Lazor's guidance, Foles produced the third-highest QB rating in league history (119.2) for a single season, while his 9.1 yards per pass attempt and 8.5 percent touchdown rate also topped the NFL in 2013.

Lazor replaces Mike Sherman, who was fired earlier this month after the Dolphins managed just seven points in season-ending losses to Buffalo and the New York Jets that knocked the team out of the playoffs.

The 41-year-old has previously served as an NFL assistant with Atlanta (2003), Washington (2004-07) and Seattle (2008-09), working under such esteemed coaches as Dan Reeves, Joe Gibbs and Mike Holmgren. Lazor spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Virginia from 2010-12 prior to coming to the Eagles.

Miami also interviewed Green Bay quarterbacks coach Ben McAdoo, who accepted the OC job with the New York Giants Tuesday, as well as former Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan.
